Crap, crap, crap

This was absolutely awful!!! Dennis Hopper's rendition of a street talking preacher man was terrible!!! What were they thinking??!It seems that Edward Furlong has no understanding of how to look menacing without gritting his teeth the entire time, the fight choreography was so lame a three year old playing Ninja Turtles in the back yard could have done a better job. There was nothing that would make me suggest to my friends that they watch this movie....normally I would at least say "check out the crapness of this" but frankly I'm almost embarrassed to say I watched it all the way through. Someone took this franchise baby and shook it hard til there was nothing left but a mutilated shell of a beautiful thing.

It is indeed as good as The original Crow with Brandon Lee.

Well I guess this is Just one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is indeed as good as The original Crow with Brandon Lee. I also Liked Edward Furlong back to the screens. It's good to see Him back. I was strongly disappointed because of the fact he wasn't appointed to the sequel of Terminator. After all he was the best one to the part. Anyhow I cannot get involved into cast decisions lol. But here is the proof that Furlong is still talented. Also I liked the storyline and the soundtrack was just amazing. I just thought the satanic group lead by Boreanaz was a little to comic to the story but the rest was fine. Jimmy Cuervo was the best Crow, along with Eric Draven. However I feel that the background story and characters of Wicked Prayer is the most indicated to the legend of the Crow. that's the reason it is my favourite Crow of all.

bad, just bad

i actually just registered to make a comment about this movie, (watching it right now) the reality is that i'm really angry, this movie is awful, i loved the first with brandon lee, the second was OK, the third was.. i don't even remember it was boring, the same but boring... and this, how to say it, is cow poo, direction:horrible , effects: horrible, music:horrible, cast:horrible, i just could think they had a 2 cents budget for this one, but come on, cut tara reid, put another dumb blonde, and save for some production, what are they doing with the crow, they just ruined it. it's a jokei just remember the atmosphere in the first one, the make up, the creepy darkness, you really felt you were into some dark passages of a sad love story, you felt connected with that feeling, very well done, nice effects, really good scenes, nice action, just take all that to the opposite and that's this last movie. downward with the crow sequels, could anyone bring it to life again?

Oh dear god why?

Well.....this was a study in how far disappointment can go! I have been a fan of "The Crow" since it first came out. I was interested when they said a II was coming out but was slightly disappointed by it when I finally saw it, though it had certain elements one had to admire. When III came out I thought "It will have to end here, this is just crap" but now I have seen "Wicked Prayer" (as if the title shouldn't have given it away) I have an understanding of what real bitter disappointment really is. I would not be surprised to see Brandon Lee return from the dead to take revenge on all those involved in this travesty. The acting, especially by Mr. Furlong, is appalling. He does not make a convincing recently dead vengeance machine and his "I'm so scary" face is remarkably similar to my dogs "I have gas" face. David Boreanaz leaves something to be desired when it comes to Satan....at least he was an interesting bad guy in buffy. This movie is too full of cliché, it progresses at the pace of a schizophrenic cheetah, the story line must have been written by a paralysed monkey on a type writer and I am sure most of the cast were on crack. It's not even good for a chuckle, and since when has anyone in a Crow movie been arrested in the end? Surely I deserved to see Tara Reid have her eyes forcibly removed by the end of this movie. This thing gets a giant BOOO HISSS!!! Don't waste your time on this movie, you will regret every last minute of it.

Sentimental favorite

This film, more so than any of the other Crow films, was relate-able for me. The anger within Jimmy and how it brings about his fall and rise are things that personally I can identify with.I absolutely loved the themes present this time around. Unlike the previous installment, an attempt was made to give the villains something more than just greed to fuel their actions. We have a gray line here, something that I think many couldn't grasp that have been very negative about this film.Performances by the leads are top notch. I did have a hard time staying with Boreanaz's choice of characterization when he channels the devil, but with further viewings, his attempt is better understood. I only wish that the awful dialog of El Nino could have been changed prior to the film being made. I was able to read early script drafts and his dialog was always a concern of mine and it came off as bad as I thought it would. The music is fantastic, one of the best scores of the franchise. It is a crime the music was not released on CD. The music can be found at Jamie Christopherson's site however and I highly recommend you check it out. As I said in the beginning, the element that drew me in the most with this film was Jimmy's imperfection. The first two films of the franchise gave us men who were for the most part heroes. The third film tired to go a little further, but this film gives us a true anti-hero that O'Barr, the comic creator, invisioned for the lead character in these tales. Jimmy's only one redeeming value is the love he shares with Lily. I thought this gave him much more depth than the previous characters and Furlong brought to life this character wonderfully. Probably one of the most misunderstood and under-appreciated entries in the franchise, Wicked Prayer stands today as a sentimental favorite of mine for the chance Lance Mungia took to do something different with the franchise as well as for the themes presented.

This movie was HORRIBLE

I am a fan of the TV show Angel and David Boreanaz; but henceforth David Boreanaz will be referred to as David Boringanus (sorry Dave, fire your manager buddy). I usually at least finish a movie no matter how bad it is. I did not finish this one. I know it is not the actors' fault since they have appeared in great features in the past. David F. was poorly cast in the role of the crow. First, was he actually in any fight scenes? The poor filming of the fight scenes was pathetic.. could you please zoom in any closer, we can not see the fibers in his clothing. I am not buying that skinny kid as an intimidating killer. And the supposed love that fuels the crow's desire for revenge is nothing more than a trailer park hookup. Boringanus's hair was so bad that I literally laughed out loud. I guess that ex-priest satanic cultists do not use combs or hair gel like vampires with souls that are fighting for justice and the powers that be do. I am hoping David's show on Fox this Fall will redeem him.If you are a fan of Furlong or Boringanus stay away because you will only be scarred. If you like Tito Ortiz stay away because he goes out like a little punk (which we know is totally unrealistic). Tito would put the Crow into some serious arm bar action and kick the crap out of him. The crow would not die, but he would be walking funny for a while.

Almost decent.

I'm going to make this very simple, what I did and didn't like about the Crow: Wicked Prayer. I'll start by saying this: It's not the worst of the sequels (the worst being Salvation in my opinion) but it's certainly not the best.Part of the magic and mysticism of the legend of the Crow is gone because you find out rather soon into the movie that the legend is well known and believed by the Indians. To me, this was a con because no one really seemed unnerved or timid of the Crow's presence. They all just seemed to accept it like "He's the Crow!" Might as well have said, "He's Superman!" Another problem I had with this film is the villains. Too many times they're played out to seem silly and over-exaggerated. You'll find a part in the ending where one of the bad guys uses goofy slang like "Homie" and "Shorty" and "Bad Mutha" when he's not even black and the scene was suppose to be one of the film's high points. Instead this scene winds off as ridiculous and altogether a little confusing. Not to mention that the death scene of the two main characters, has one of the villains (Tara Reid) borrowing a scene from the original Crow. Does the line, "Her eyes...so pretty," sound vaguely familiar (give or take a few words)? Lastly, The Crow himself, played by Edward Furlong, seems really downplayed in this movie. I just felt as though I didn't see enough of Edward's performance as I would've liked but rather was treated to over-the-top scenes that involved the villains with bad dialog. Also it's the same story, so it was a little old to watch for the third time (I say third because COA handled it a bit differently with the fatherxson thing.)I will give this film some credit seeing as that it DID have some (but few) good points. The first being its lead. It's really a shame the movie as a whole seems ridiculous and wasn't written better because as the Crow, Edward Furlong was really impressive. I went from watching him as a hokey, bad-acting, smoker's voiced loser in Intermedio (Which I DON'T recommend to anyone unless pain inflicted upon the eyes is something you enjoy) to an emotionally charged, morally torn ex-convict in this movie. At times I thought he was reminiscent of Brandon Lee in that he played the character of Jimmy Cuervo with passion, anger and a sort of "What-the-hell-do-I-have-to-lose?" attitude. What makes him different from Brandon's character though is that Jimmy questions his role as the Crow. Aided by his love Lily, he swore to never kill again and unfortunately, as the Crow, that's what his dark duty is. The scene where Jimmy tells the crow that it's made him into a monster demonstrates this nicely. It was a good conflict to give the character. I really hope I continue to see performances like this from Edward Furlong.Another plus is that the romance between the two main characters (Lilly and Jimmy) is rather believable and endearing. I felt they should've been given a little more scene time in flashbacks but it was far better than the cheesy, blatant Crow 1 ripoff romance that was in Salvation. So there's the Pros and Cons for you. See this film if only for a good performance from Edward Furlong as the Crow. The music is beautiful and very fitting, but a lot is just wrong with this sequel. Bottom Line: It's just okay.

Awful, just awful

I've seen better acting in a school nativity play, and these are supposed to be professionals! The main character couldn't have been worse cast, I just can't take him seriously when he looks more like a 12 year old trick-or-treater rather than the back-from-the0dead wraith he is supposed to be. I only got to the end of the movie because I'm in love with Tara Reid ;) After 90 minutes I felt so gutted to know that I would never be able to replace those precious lost minutes, I wish I had spent the time on a more useful pursuit like watching paint dry or casing bumble bees.Do yourself a favour, and watch the first film again instead, now that's a classic.

The Crow Wicked Prayer

I must say I thought it was disappointing, mostly due to the casting of Ed Furlong. I can see why they decided on straight to DVD.Was it just me or did Edward Furlong seem "out of it" during most of the movie? I think Emmanuel Chrique had more screen presence in the movie than E.F. did. David Boreanaz makes a good villain but his lines , were just cheesy and we've all seen that anyways in the Angel t.v. show. Tara Reid makes a good point , she says something like "I'm just gonna go back to being white trash" towards the end.The name of the town is hilarious too , Lake Ravasu. Being that I'm actually from Lake Havassu, Az. It was just too much. And it looks nothing like Havasu. I don't know what tribe exactly the movie was going for but they messed that up to hell. I can't believe how Hollywood seems to think Mexican people are the same as Native Americans. That's like calling a Japanese person Chinese. I know, I know, it was a mixed tribe but unlike Yaquis and other handful of Mexican mixed tribes in AZ. Wicked Prayer just got it wrong. There was a few good parts though, like the opening credits for the four horsemen. Now if only they could have put as much work in the entire film as that they might have an OK movie. In a way I don't blame people for thinking the Crow franchise is becoming a joke, after seeing Wicked Prayer I can see why they feel that way. I hope someday someone makes a quality film like the first film minus the hype.

Wicked Prayer, a fresh Crow film

posted on 06 Apr 2009

I have seen a lot of negative posts about this film and a lot of crow fans have mixed emotions about it as well. Let me start by saying that I have been a Crow fan for many years and truly feel that Brandon Lee's Crow will forever be the best. You must accept the fact that every movie is different and is not meant to be a carbon copy of the original. Wicked Prayer gives us a fresh outlook on the Crow, yes the acting leaves much to be desired in this film but one things still remains. This is the story or real love prevailing over evil. The true origin of the crow is shown in this film. Native Americans believe in spirits like this so it nice to see a crow film about it's origins. I'm a die hard fan and I liked this movie I just wish they would hurry up and release it to DVD so I can add it to my collection. Come on Dimension Films get on it!

The only star in this movie was the crow: avoid at all cost

Wicked Prayer(wp) is a badly directed movie in which the action is constantly broken up and players are badly casted and under-performing.The plot for wp is simple. Band of bad dudes want to summon Satan to take revenge for something. They kill the lead character and his love interest. They kill a lot of other people as well. Lead character turns into the crow and takes his revenge on the bad dudes and fights it out with lead bad-dude-turned-Satan and defeats him in the end.To make such a movie spiffy we need something that kicks ass: stylish direction, sizzling conversations, fast and bloody fights and captivating lead characters. This movie fails in everything. In reversed order:- Lead characters. Furlong is boring and unconvincing. In the love scenes he looks like he is about to nod off. His eyes squint, his face expressionless, his jaw slack. As crow he looks like a goth boy who find himself teleported into a country and western bar. He neither looks cool, nor dangerous, nor sad. He looks like a loser with paint on and clothed in black leathers. I was expecting people to fall over laughing whenever he entered a bar. Look at the dumb-ass goth boy. The lead bad guy put's in a bad guy performance, but he never excels in anything. The sidekicks of the bad guy have a constant look on them which boils down to: Am i really doing this? Gee. I am a real bad dude ain't I? What am I going to do next? The only one who actual looks the part his the female bad girl. Although most of her performance ends after the first half of the movie. Then there are a bunch of Indians who count a cop and priest amongst their number. During the entire movie they perform like the keystone cops, without meaning to be funny. They spent their time talking, praying, meandering about and rifling the bad guys and the crow without actually hitting anything. In fact in the end scenes the bad guy fighting the crow actually kills more bad guys that the Indian posse. I can't think they hit anything. There is a superb dumb moment when the bad-guy-turned-Satan exits the satanic church and confronts the group of morons. Armed with pistols, rifles, shotguns they do nothing. And when mister Satan passes them they just gawk at him and then when he has left they do an sort of Indian dance that looked dumb to say the least.- With this I come to the fights. Well nothing spectacular, nothing interesting. At the end there is a fight between the crow and Satan and it is just boring. What amazed me was that this crow dude could actually defeat Satan without help. So Satan is actually weaker than the crow?- Sizzling conversations? Nothing. No memorable quotes. I can't think of anything interesting that passed the lips.- stylish directing? Nope, unless walking around in goth makeup and dark leathers and the satanic church scene is considered stylish. The problem with directing is that the action is constantly interrupted. There are odd scenes. There are many many flashbacks. I think I have seen the hanging at the beginning of the movie being flash-backed at me a zillion times. This movie is sad thing and I would advise you to avoid it. There are hundreds of better and more entertaining movies.

Not as good as the original but better then the other two.

"Caw Caw, Bang, F**k, I'm Dead!" It was about three years ago that I first saw the CROW, and I instantly fell in love with Brandon Lee. So being the obsessed movie nut that I am, I went out and rented the two sequels that were out. I knew that my beloved Brandon Lee would not be in them (and also not as good) but I still hoped that they would be worthy sequels. How wrong I was. CITY OF ANGEL just flat out sucked. It was a really bad and distorted photo copy of the original. SALAVATION was so so. I could stand it a little better then CITY OF ANGELS.Now WICKED PRAY I enjoyed. It made an attempt to do things differently while still keeping the feel of the original. For instance, this Crow is more of a reluctant hero then the others were. Also the editing and cinematography were very well done. As to the writing and acting, well… there's just some writing that no matter how good of an actor you are is so bad you just can't make it work.

it was so a good movie!!

first off... this movie does so have a story line and plot. to all those people who say it doesn't, obviously weren't paying attention. secondly... the acting and cast was not that bad! i have to admit, i'm a fan of eddie furlong and he wasn't that good in this movie, but good enough to make the movie good. and David boreanaz and tara reid were good also. but dennis hopper was a lil weird. also furlong was not the worst crow ever!! he was quite good. lastly... i suggest people who haven't seen it...to see it at least once. everyone has their own view on things. remember don't knock til you try it.

Forth time unlucky

If you liked the original...well...you probably won't like this one. It's all very predictable and not very convincing. The cast fails to save the film. Edward Furlong looks like he's going to Halloween in a bad costume. Macy Gray should stick to singing. And Dennis Hopper seems to be making his own lines up as he goes. Emanuelle Chriqui is the only one that seems to be taking the story line seriously. But the end result is a tedious mess. The villains just aren't villainous enough.goofs 1: Old refrigerators don't burn that well and make lousy coffinsgoofs 2: Goths don't live in the desert, not only is it uncool but maintaining that deathly white skin is impossible when you keep getting sun burnt.

Same old song, but at least it's entertaining

EDWARD FURLONG stars as a former ex-con who plans on marrying the girl of his dreams, despite persecution from her father & brother, but when he & his soon to be fiancée are murdered by a group of satanic punks, he rises from the grave to seek revenge, aided of course by the black crow, but his mission won't be as easy as he thought it would be. This is yet another installment to the CROW series, with the only connection being the title & the Crow itself & although the film turned out to be pretty decent in my view, this is no more or no less a remake of the first three films, adding really nothing new to the old formula to set it apart from the others, the actors all performed well in their roles, but EDWARD FURLONG who plays the resurrected avenger is miscast in my view, looking more like a high school goth than an actual hero. David BORNENZ does good as the villain & TARA REID does fine with what she was given, DENNIS HOPPER despite being one of the top billed, is only in the film for about 10 minutes. But you can tell that this series is starting to show it's age, hopefully if there's a CROW 5, which their no doubt will be, we'll get a different take & scenario, like maybe a female crow or a Crow movie that's set in the old west, but knowing DIMENSION FILMS & their recent trend of direct to video franchises like the HELLRAISER/CHILDREN OF THE CORN/MIMIC films, I'm not going to hold my breath. Fun & a must see for all CROW fans & only them.*** stars

My opinion is that this movie is really good and I recommend it to all who like some medium type action. But what i wanted to ask was... if someone knows what the last song in the movie was? You know, when the credits start to rise there's a song that goes something like this: In the darkness of nighttime, when you lay down to sleep. If you hold on to memories, in you dreams we will meet. You can look in my blue eyes, touch my black glowing hair. Whenever you need me, I'll always be there. Through the rest of your travels, and the long road ahead. Don't give in to your sadness, let our love guide instead. And the air all around you, I'm the wind in your face. Blowing closer and closer, to our final embrace...I have the ripped version and the credits stop to soon for me to see the songs title :( If anyone knows please answer!

"Come on baby, fart in my gas tank"

posted on 07 Feb 2009

"Come on baby, fart in my gas tank"While it's temping to allow that direct quote to speak volumes about this film, I suppose its best we cover a little more ground; The Crow 4 follows the mystical journey of someone so Goth they die and come back as Helena Bonham Carter to wreak horrible Tim Burtonised revenge on wrongdoers. The film is surprisingly full of familiar actors considering it's the 3rd in a long and disastrous trail of The Crow branded sequels. But familiarity doesn't equal quality, but that's somewhat obvious just by a brief glance at the DVD cover. Angel…I mean…Angelis…Sorry - David "I'm a serious actor" Boreanaz reminds us yet again that he's a one trick acting pony with no discernible talent. Meanwhile the only interest Tara Reid holds during the movie is the way her fringe magically becomes higher the more evil she becomes. The shock of seeing Edward Furlong looking like Marla Singer in Fight Club is actually marginally less alarming than the late movie appearance of Dennis Hopper, as a hip old Satanist pimp (or something) who spouts golden one liners such as "Kiss the bride mother f***er" and "Satan, dude is that you? The original gangsta'?" So even if your theatrical cup runneth over with all that talent there's still the storyline, the confused direction, the script and the makeup – oh god the makeup. So yeah yeah, they're so in love, blah blah, somehow they die, yawn yawn their love was sooo pure and strong he has to come back in gothpaint and kill people. That's basically the only succinct area of the movie. Unable to creatively address the back-story to the film the writers were reduced to a Wile E Coyote intro. This was basically moot because the entire film was a mish mash of Satanism and manic Native American ritual eventually sending the viewer into a psychological epileptic fit. I suppose if you're 15 and just discovered eyeliner this film may appeal to you. But if you ever loved T2 even just a tiny bit, save yourself the anguish of having to see Furlong this way.

I think I've seen this before... oh wait, that's right, it's a Buffy episode.

It wasn't a BAD movie, but it definitely wasn't a good one. In the first 5 minutes of the film when we are introduced to the "Four Horsemen", (which includes Famine being a fry cook) in the stop movie and throw up captions fashion of many other bad movies, we realized this was just going to be a downward spiral. Some interesting concepts, but one thing that bothered those of us who watched it was that the bad guys knew all about the crow legend. Have you ever seen the whole "Angelus" plot in Buffy when he tried to open Hell? Ya, that's what this movie is. Only without the witty Joss Whedon lines, although man did he try. There were many things out of place here, but I'm not trying to get my life back so it's not a complete waste.

Probably one of the worse films of the 21st Century.

They should have never made any other Crow films or TV series after the first one. Not only were they never going to top it, but also in respect to Brandon Lee.After seeing the sequel (City of Angels), one could tell how desperate they were to bank on the Title. However, after watching this flick, City of Angels seems as though it is worth a million bucks. Now this film actually seems like it was made by a 16 year old fan of The Crow who cooked up a script after school. And then he and some friends from the neighborhood geek movie club got together and decided to shoot it. Somehow, here and there, they got some decent actors to come in and star in the film. This movie is so bad, that I would give it the title of classic bad films. So here is the lowdown: Awful Script. Really poor Dialogue Laughable Characters Bad Directing And just about anything else that makes a bad movie worse. So please watch this film. It is a definition for what is considered "crap". Enjoy.

This movie was terrible, made me want to throw up, and to the kid above me, tara reid is not good in any other movie, she is the worst actress, well one of, i mean come on, she couldn't act her way out of a box, shes horrible, eddie furlong is bad, just plain bad actor, only decent thing that ever came from him was Terminator, but he still sucked he was a whiny little person. I just wanted to hurt him in this movie, David boreanaz well hes good actor, cant really say anything bad except he was stupid for picking this, he should have never played in this movie. Special effects suck, hell the whole movie sucks. id give it a 0 or a negative score but its not possible.
