I'll take movie ripoffs for $400, Alex
posted on 18 Aug 2009I'll take movie ripoffs for $400, AlexThis movie, released in 2001, blatantly stole the plot of "Point Break" starring Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves. What is "The Fast and the Furious?"Correct! What more is there to say? The only difference is they substituted outlaw street racers for outlaw surfers. Otherwise the plots are identical. A cop goes undercover to break up a ring of thieves. He falls for the outlaw chick and finds himself admiring the ringleader. The only real difference is "Point Break" had a much better ending, unlike the "let's wrap it all up on a happy note" of TF&TF. 3/10 and that's for the stunts and cool cars.
Good, but a no brainer
posted on 16 Aug 2009The fast and the furious took no brain processing what so ever. That's probably why the movie was so popular. I liked it because I thought the characters were cool and the cars were even cooler. I thought the plot was good and I enjoyed watching this movie with my surround sound system.Good job.7/10
1/4 miles at a time
posted on 14 Aug 2009Wow i am a big car lovers, i mean speed is the freedom and thebest trill for men. (I am myself writing a screenplay about a carchase) I saw a lots of car movies since Vanishing Point and theoriginal Gone in 60 seconds, and the fast and the furious is one ofthe best i have seen, the way they film it was amazing, i am nottalking about the story, the scenario and the story was a regularpopcorn movie, but if you go there to see car speeding up, soundof big engine and beautiful girls, that is the movie to see, just becareful with your own car when you'll get out of there, you'll feel torace your car from the cinema to your house at 140 mph. So justfasten your seat belt and enjoy it.
It will leave you dazed and breathless.
posted on 10 Aug 2009It begins with a spectacular action scene where three Honda Civics execute a high-speed highjacking of a cargo truck, and from there, the action never stops. With The Fast and the Furious, director Rob Cohen seeks to capture and thrill the audience with a booming soundtrack and non-stop action, and he seems to have succeeded. The film follows officer Brian O'Connor as he infiltrates a street-racing gang in order to capture the drivers of the three enigmatic Hondas, which have been terrorizing truck drivers in Los Angeles. The gang is led by ex-racer Dominic Toretto. Toretto immediately takes a liking to O'Connor, while his gang seems a bit skeptic. Toretto's right-hand man Vince is O'Connor's main problem, as he suspects the truth about his identity from the very beginning. The plot is slightly dry, as the movie incorporates many typical aspects of other films of the genre. For example, there's the fact that Toretto is the only one to trust O'Connor. The rest of his gang except for, of course, Vince, quickly follows him. Then there's the whole falling-in-love-with-the-sister-of-the-guy-I'm-about-to-get-arrested subplot. And then there are your typical problems from rival gangs and the hero's attempt to prove himself by striking against them. Yet despite the many stereotypical aspects of the script, the well-developed characters and interesting relationships save the movie from becoming just another heap of typical Hollywood sensationalism. The movie features strong acting, as the actors work well together and compliment each other's performances. This is only Michelle Rodriguez' second major performance since her film debut in the independent drama Girl Fight, which was a hit at the Cannes Film Festival last year. Not just another bad girl, Rodriguez shows a strong acting ability, which is apparent in her portrayal of Lena. Vin Diesel is also a fairly good actor who seems to be climbing through the ranks of Hollywood. Best known for his role in the failed science-fiction thriller Pitch Black, Diesel sports a memorable attitude and strong screen presence that promise to make him a contender for future stardom. Opting to cast less known, yet strong actors instead of more commercially viable ones, Rob Cohen has created a well-rounded cast, which gives the movie its fresh attitude and memorable mood.Yet it is the action scenes that are the real stars of the movie. Featuring three races and four equally spectacular action sequences, the movie delivers fast and furious action from beginning to end. Accompanied by a rocking soundtrack, the action sequences are put together by flawless editing and elaborate stunts, effectively creating a maddening adrenaline rush in any viewer.A long time producer and Harvard graduate, Cohen has achieved success a director, with movies such as Dragonheart, The Skulls, Daylight, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (which he also wrote and starred in) and several episodes of the series Miami Vice. He is also a screenwriter and has had small roles in some of his movies. He plays a pizza delivery boy in The Fast and The Furious.Although the slight semblance of a plot does not make this something for the serious moviegoer, the relentless action more than makes up for it. Not too long and filled with fantastic cars and non-stop entertainment, The Fast and the Furious will leave you dazed and breathless.
Hondas suck... And so does this movie...
posted on 29 Jul 2009Movies that rely on subcultures and pop culture are generally the bottom of the barrel... the Fast and the Furious does nothing to change this it only makes me want to vomit. The average joe will watch this and enjoy because the average joe likes Hondas with NOS and pink neon. I cant stand to see the the tuner culture exposed in such a way that glorifies the idea of throwing tons of cash into cars with little to no potential. This film grossly augments the ability of a V-TEC and NOS. Yeah, okay this film was not supposed to be realistic but it is so ridiculous that I can't even pretend to enjoy. The plot is this: an undercover cop tries to bust a theft ring by entering the underworld of compact car racing. The cop meets people, races, and tries to look cool... it is horrible to watch...painful. The plot is ho-hum the acting is humorous and the races are bullcrap. At one point there is a supra that races a Ferrari...and wins. like I said before this is too ridiculous to praise. If you are a NOPI dork who runs around claiming your civic has 600 wheel horsepower and runs a 8 sec. 1/4 mile with the 400 pounds of speaker equipment then watch...
The best movie on the shelf
posted on 19 Jul 2009WARNING- DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE..IT REVEALS SUPRISES THAT YOU DONT WANT SPOILED..!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!(this warning is required by IMDB in order to place a review)Fast and the furious is about an undercover detective(Walker)who is trying to make his way into the underground street racing world becouse some trucks have been getting hijacked by cars that have police believing belong to some people in the street racing circut. Now along the way he befriends the "MAN" of the street racing word (Diesel) named Domonic Torreto. Now the detective has become friends wth torreto and starts denying the fact it could be torreto who is hijacking the trucks. Now he also falls for torretos sister Mia along the way movie. AND THE CARS!!! The cars are awesome. So i say this is a deffanite 10. This isan action based film with a touch of romance and a very little bit of mystery. But i loved his movie and feel It was one of the best of 2001. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone. The action is faced pace and i like how it was realistic in talking and emotions and all that. The roles were very beleivable and the acting was good. The bad guys are hard to tell at first but you know by mid movie. The only thing that could make the movie better is if a video game came out about it. But overall Fast and the furious is a definate hit.
I thought that this was a great movie.
posted on 17 Jul 2009I thought that this was a great movie to see. I am a person that loves cars! The storyline was great and the actors did a great job. Vin Diesel was awesome. My husband and I seen it a dozen times. The movie is an adrenaline pumping movie. I recommend this movie to all the car lovers out there!
An adrenaline pumping thrill ride!
posted on 15 Jul 2009I just got back from this movie and I'm still pumped with adrenaline. I'm surprised I wasn't pulled over by the police, we were driving 140 most of the way home. I definitely recommend this movie for anyone who likes fast cars and good action movies.
one of the best
posted on 15 Jul 2009this was one of the best racing movies i have seen the dialouge might not have been the best but the cars were perfect in every way. i really liked the end when he had the charger and popped a wheelyman that was the greatest and the stunts with the cars where so cool i loved every part of this movie.
Thoroughly Enjoyable if you don't think about it
posted on 11 Jul 2009I thouroughly enjoyed this film. It had action in spades, a reasonable story and lots of fast cars. The actors aren't well known but that doesn't make it bad. The race scenes are very well done and the bit with the Honda Civics and the truck are class. Suspend belief. Forget thinking and enjoy it for what it is, not what it should be. 7/10
* * out and 4.
posted on 05 Jul 2009Point Break rip off about an undercover cop (Paul Walker) sent in to find out if a local gang headed by Vin Diesel is responsible for a group of robberies. It's loud, it's dumb, and it has a very fast pace. This is a film with a cast full of hunks and hot chicks where each one of raising stars smolders with sexuality and each have their own commanding presences in the film. This is a film where the audience knows on a techincal level for the most part it is pretty bad, but on an entertainment level it is great. Terrific action sequences are an added bonus.Rated PG-13; Violence, Profanity, and Sexual Content.
A Very Loud Street Racing Movie
posted on 05 Jul 2009Any movie that can make Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez look like decent actresses should have succeeded, but it unfortunately didn't. Paul Walker was just starting his career and was a little rough and Vin Diesel gives his usual grunts and groans performance. The movie is loud, but what would you expect from this type of film. It basically proves that fast cars, and fast women equal fun.In this film you have teenagers around 16-19 who have high performance cars, but give you the impression that they couldn't screw in a light bulb without help, and somehow in the film the police are nowhere to be found despite the roar of 800 horsepower engines.A minor diversion, but a movie that makes no sense.(*1/2) Out Of (****)
The longest ad I've ever seen
posted on 03 Jul 2009I think I watched this movie for the same reason many others watched the movie: we wanted to see them fast cars. And there were lots of them. The drag racing scenes were definitely the best but after several of them it kinda gets annoying when you're sitting there wondering where the hell did these kids get the money for the cars. Finding out who's been behind the robberies is pretty easy to figure out as well.Ok cars were ok but the relationships between the characters was not believable. I don't think that Dom and Brian connected so closely as to warrant what happened in the end. And the romance between Brian and Mia seemed to have come from no where. I believed Mia and Leon's love/hate relationship more.If you have time and money to spend or maybe you got a free coupon from blockbuster, go ahead and watch this film. It won't really change your life or make you think but it may make you want to save up for a 80,000 car to drag and destroy. What fun.
Fantastic - cant wait for the sequel!!!
posted on 01 Jul 2009This movie rocked!!!! At first, i didnt want to see it at all.I mean, im not a "car chick", if i wanted to see a bunch of guys drooling over cars, i'd see my brother and his friends. Anyway, my friend dragged me along, and couldnt get me out of the theatre. It was SOOO good!!! The music was fantastic, the cars were so cool, the actors all did relly well, the whole thing was great. And responding to people who have panned this awesome flick, id like to know what they thought of Pauly Shore's latest - this flick was too good to be true! What more could you want? There's action, romance, adventure, every genre combined to make this - a perfect movie for anyone who likes to have fun and see good movies! The sequel is apparently being filmed now, be first in line to see it!!!
..not what i've expected
posted on 25 Jun 2009the movie sometimes is fast, but mostly slow and music overspiced. if creators would taken drive of "gone in 60 sec" and speed of formula 1 - they would certainly made it big, but sometimes poor actors play and lifeless story put you in dissapointment. acctually, producers tried to do their best - but result is average. go if you like car (japanese cars:) movies.
Vin Diesel can't act
posted on 23 Jun 2009Brian Spindler (Paul Walker) is an FBI agent investigating a series of hijackings by going undercover with a street gang led by Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel). Caught up in Toretto's world of gang conflict that is resolved in late-night car races, Spindler starts to sympathize with his suspect and falls in love with Toretto's sister Mia (Jordana Brewster). Spindler initially suspects the wrong gang of complicity in the crimes he's probing, while Toretto remains involved in a forbidden romance, with his girlfriend Letty (Michelle Rodriguez). If you want to see a cool car movie, I would probably go with something other than this maybe Gone in 60 Seconds, Vin Diesel proves again he can't act. If you soup up Honda accords or Civic you probably own or talk all day about this film, if not this movie is pretty laughable with unrealistic racing and the "Vin Diesel unscratched" wreck was a joke.
Whats so yucky about it?
posted on 21 Jun 2009I didnt see much wrong about it..there's stereotyping(guys,cars,girls,asians..) but thats fine dude. Its a b grade movie and accept that fact. Some people can stomach it and some cant. Dont try to elevate this to a A-budget movie and then critize it. Its much better than the b grade flicks out there which make you sleepy before the movie's half done. It deserves a 6 or 7 out of 10. My 2 cents....
It doesn't get much better than this (Spoilers)
posted on 05 Jun 2009What can I say? I loved this movie, which is pretty good for me considering that I hate car movies. I wasn't just in it for the cars though; Vin Diesel is so hot. The movie also has a killer soundtrack. The plot is pretty good. It's been used before, but not like this. An undercover cop is on a big job, but he ends up falling for the girl and her family. This movie has it all, a lot of action, really cool cars, really hot guys, comedy, and lots of fun. I Definitely recommend this movie to anyone who likes any sort of the above combination. You won't be sorry.

AKA Point Break 2
posted on 20 Aug 2009I've been wanting to tear into this movie for quite some time. I just haven't been thinking about it because it was such a horrible movie. How this movie "catapulted" stars Vin "Every Race" Diesel and Paul "Keanu" Walker to the A-list boggles the mind. One, if you're making a movie about import cars, 20 to 1 people are going for the cars because they can relate. Two, if you're making an 'action' movie about import cars, you'll at least need a decent story to build around it. Three, if you're making a movie about import cars, please please please do not add a rap artist with no acting talent to make a 'cameo' AND make the soundtrack to the movie.Well, "F&F" violates those three sacred Ebertclone rules of making a good Import Car movie. One, the movie WAS about the cars but hack/aging hipster/ director???Rob Cohen (Dragon, The Skulls) wanted to exploit the rising star who is known as Vin Diesel (aka Mark Vincent, whether he likes it or not). Hey, let's just make him the anti-hero, the one we're not sure we should root for! Two, instead of thinking of a story (we have that thing called a brain), let's just rent "Point Break" (coincidentally a Keanu/Patrick Swayze movie) and replace the surfing boards with import cars! And hey, let's make the bad guys Asian, because they haven't been the bad guys in the past 30 years of filmmaking! Three, let's get that midget no-talent Ja Rule to make a cameo in our movie because at the time he was at the top of the charts! Let's give him the dumbest lines uttered in movie history too! And give him the right to produce a horrible soundtrack.Nobody stands out in this movie. Not Michelle "Testosterone Pumped" Rodriguez, Matt "I'm A Bad Ass" Schulz, and not even the stunning Jordana Brewster. Okay, maybe if she got naked, I would actually like this movie a tad, but unfortunately she doesn't so this movie fails on all 'gears'. This movie even bites off "Point Break's" ending, showing no faith in the characters that they 'sketched'. The dialogue is atrocious, the action is implausible, and borderlines on parody ala "Commando." In fact, I believe "Commando" to be a way better film than this crap. The funny thing about this movie is that everything is taken seriously. Right down to the last line: "I owe you a ten second car." No, like we didn't see that coming. Stay far away. And a note to Ja Rule: Nobody lined up on a Friday night and paid $9 to see YOU.
