The invisible
posted on 26 Aug 2009This film was a brilliant make. it arouses several types of emotions mixing them all together, let you feel a different kind of emotion to almost the full extent from moment to moment, producing understanding, acceptance, hope, love, sorrow, anger, frustration, disappointment and several more. I did not cry, but I felt, I was focused on this film, intrigued, surprised, not to mention that the acting supplied was splendid, it was truly a movie that in way I can not explain, moved me. I guess I feel compelled to share, that I am healing from brain damage and I suffer from health uncertain and not so positive all caused by lies, miss-understanding and psych meds.. I state this because what I am going through make it very hard, to focus, and get into, and feel, and many more things, but this film truly did to me as I stated out, and for me that clearly registers the story in the film and the film it self as a great achievement. It takes true wisdom, forgiveness, ability self worth and acceptance to react as the the main character reacted. I am proud to understand that from past experiences that I have went through, and through some experiences that In my situation I am going through.
some may miss the point
posted on 24 Aug 2009Those with the depth to see past its surface will find this movie enchanting and moving. If you are able to look beyond what is said and into what the characters (and director) mean, the movie is artful and brilliant. To those who thought it was ridiculous, maybe it was supposed to be. The death in the movie may seem obvious, because it was meant to be. This is a tragedy. You are supposed to have the feeling of inevitable conclusion, and nothing can be done to reverse it. I see the movie as a masterpiece, well worth watching. See it with an open mind, and you may be surprised at what you find. But if you are expecting a thriller, look elsewhere, for this isn't the place to find mindless entertainment.
It was nothing what I expected- it was a lot worse.
posted on 22 Aug 2009This was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. There was no development of character and there were so many scenes that were irrelevant to the plot. i.e. The opening scene, though well acted and interestingly shot, had nothing to do with the main theme of the movie. At first I thought it was to illustrate how he felt invisible to create some sort of irony in the fact that he soon would be invisible, but there was nothing more about it. It was just that. The Annie character could have been a very interesting and perplexing character but became completely ruined and superficial as soon as she took off her beanie in the club scene. Which, by the way, also didn't make sense since she said she needed "a roof" then went to party and later sleep in the high school. Also, there was no basis for the male character to feel attraction for the female character except for the fact that they are opposite sexes. There was no development of a relationship. Sure, they did a good job at showing their similarities, but, no offense to anyone, I'm not going to feel sorry for someone and fall in love with a person that just killed me. What the screenplay writers and directors should have done was show more about Annie and the cause of her demise. They should have humanized her during the scenes with her little brother and not during a club scene. They should have left the beanie on and taken it off only at times the audience was supposed to feel for her. There was too much of a connection between the beanie and her "badness" and that left too quickly. There were so many subplots that were left unanswered. What about the two goons that helped her kill him? What about her boyfriend who was still alive when she left him? What about Pete, the bad best friend, and his attempted suicide? There should have been follow-up to these because a consequence is expected. Other subplots that were left untouched- her mother's death, sudden or long and drawn out? Annie's relationship with her father; did the bruises on her arm mean that he beat her? Were we supposed to infer that? Annie's father used to be a policeman; why mention he got fired and that it's "a long story" if we never get to hear it? Annie and her life was a pivotal character to the story that was left dry.Just a few other things that irritated me: The previews did not give a true synopsis of the story line. There was no mystery to be solved. It is perfectly clear who kills him. Also, this has been compared to Ghost, or, at least, the writer's and PR people have compared it to Ghost. There is no connection, and Ghost, obviously seen through it Acadamy Award nominations, was a well written piece of fiction as opposed to this....not well written piece of fiction. Main difference, and the most important I believe, is that Demi Moore didn't kill Patrick Swayze!! This movie had such great potential and had me thinking it was going to live up to it's expectations, but it ultimately left me utterly disappointed.
Good movie....Cant wait until directors cut
posted on 22 Aug 2009Okay to start things off this movie was falsely portrayed in the trailer but oh well.Well the movie ended up being one of the better movies of the year that I have seen. It has a good plot and it seems to move at a nice pace. The soundtrack is awesome. The thing is that it seems the director had something more to say as the movie progresses but that it ended up not making it into the movie. The acting is pretty good especially seeing that it is carried by an actor that is normally in supporting roles.Well the ending of the movie should have came either 5 mins earlier or should of ended on a happier note with the ending they put in. It just seems that them ending with Nick talking to Annie's brother that there should have been a happier tone to the ending. That being said it is at least worth one watch just so you may judge for yourselves.
Loved it!
posted on 20 Aug 2009I was a little unsure when i got this movie as there had been no advertising for it here in the UK so i really didn't know what to expect. Thats not a bad thing though because it meant i was totally open minded and im really pleased about that. The movie itself is about a young lad who lives with his emotionless mother who dreams of eloping to London to start a writing career. His mother forbids it but he decides to go anyway and buys the ticket. His best friend at school is bullied by a nasty girl and her friends and he witnesses the girl hiding stolen goods in her locker. The police come and arrest the girl for burglary and instantly suspects the young lad. Her and her friends find the lad and give him a beating but because he believes Nick is going to London in a couple of hours he tells them that it was Nick who told the police. The girl and her flunkies find Nick and give him a beating but the girl goes too far and thinks she's killed him and dumps him in a storm drain. The thing is that Nick isn't dead after all but is dying. He somehow leaves his body and haunts her and it appears that she can here him.Thats enough about the story but i found it was acted very well with a good script and very enjoyable and emotional to watch.
great treatment with the story
posted on 20 Aug 2009Well this movie has been treated very well. it could have ended as usual like they lived happily ever after. But this was the best ending that it could have.Especially, the scenes with Annie and her brother were really good.the young leads were good. well the ending is real close to the heart. well i was really happy with this movie. it was really a fine effort from Annie.I really loved the end and the scenes of Annie and her brother. And i loved watching this movie as i was not expecting anything from it.The acting was pretty decent. And i like the character of the young lead very muchWell i would give 8 out of 10 and to be honest i was really sad to see the end
If there were negative Star ratings.....this movie would be -1000
posted on 14 Aug 2009I have had bowl movements that have kept my attention for longer than this movie. Not a single word in any language known to man can truly describe how terrible this movie was. The acting was equivalent to your son or daughters first grade Christmas play where half the children are crying and the other half aren't even paying attention. The plot line had more holes then a hobo's sock and is twice as bad his smell. The entire basis and main focus of the movie jumps by the half hour and by the end you are more confused than the idea that K-Fed was the one who ended up better off in his past celebrity relationship. And the ending was so terribly abrupt and open ended that you really couldn't help but laugh out loud. There really was nothing good about this movie except listening to the DVD player open so I could throw the movie into the fire. Don't waste your money renting this movie and don't even waste a glance in the video store, because you will never get back the 2 seconds it takes to read the title. Spend you money and time on something more worthwhile, like a Pauly Shore movie, seriously.
Awful in EVERY possible way!
posted on 13 Aug 2009Save your money, Save your time - this movie is not worth a moment of anyone's time. I'm all for supernatural thrillers, mystery murder dramas, etc...but this movie is just bad - poorly acted, scenes are so over-dramatic, it's just so far-fetched. I rarely give out reviews, I rarely give one star as a rating but this movie surely deserves it.
The following reviewer disagree's. Gives Thumbs UP !
posted on 09 Aug 2009This is a remake of the Swedish movie 'Den Onsynlige' and there is no doubt that its worth your time. One of the best movies I have ever witnessed. There is little to no fear elements in the movie, but it's such a beautiful story about a ghost that it can't be ignored.
If you think you can figure this movie out by the synopsis above, think again- 'The Invisible' is a epic story about life, death and the choices you make during your time on this Earth. For such a bright film, it's quite Gothic in a sense of the irony the story evokes. In the end, what really matters is making your life worth something and taking control of it on your own- the lesson is a great one, and hopefully this movie will entertain along with inspire. Check it out if you can.
Worth a watch
posted on 06 Aug 2009I thought this was a really good movie. After reading reviews first, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The movie went against your stereotypes from other movies, which I liked, although at least one person who left a comment didn't. I really liked the acting of Annie (Levieva), but wasn't impressed at all by either of the Powells. Something about both of those actors bugs me, while I was definitely impressed with my first encounter with Margarita Levieva.I think it's more of a drama and a show to get you thinking than a horror/suspense movie though, so if that's what you're after and expecting, that's probably why some give it a bad review.
so not what I expected
posted on 06 Aug 2009I thought this movie was poetic and beautiful. I was fascinated by the lead actor, Nicholas, and although I know he was an actor playing a role, I felt he was telling the story with his acting and then I thought to myself what a collaborative effort the whole movie was. I loved the music, I thought Marcia Gay Harden was awesome as always. Even though she had a relatively small role it was an important one to the story and she did it so well, the scene where she finally let herself feel the pain and worry of her missing child just killed me, I guess being a mother and going through having a child missing myself was a part of that. One of the other scenes I really loved was when Annie went out the top of that fenced in walk-way and eluded the police, that was an original way for her to get away, I was on the edge of my seat at that point. I also was charmed by the scene with Nicholas and the dying bird, I liked the way the viewer (me) was able to make the same connections that the character did. I loved the poetry reading by Nicholas, also. I think this movie was geared towards teenagers which I am not so I was surprised I liked it so much, to be honest the main reason I went to see it was because I am on vacation all summer and so I go to the discount theater a lot and I have already seen all the movies there but this one and TMNT. I guess this week I will break down and go see TMNT, lol. Or read a book or watch DVDs, I guess.
Not worth it
posted on 02 Aug 2009This movie IS NOT worth your time. I went and saw because the trailer actually made it look like it could be a good movie, but I was disappointed. Scenes and plot lines that were introduced in the trailer never make it into the movie, and the story became completely different. In the trailer he sees and old man who tells him that he needs to solve the mystery of his own murder in order to live again, but this is never brought into the movie. The main character just follows everyone around until eventually he's able to get his murderer to hear him. It's was cheesy, as was the acting. Nobody in this movie acted well at all. All in all, not a good movie at all.
All around mediocre
posted on 02 Aug 2009The underlying plot is perhaps do-able if it were presented with good acting, and believable screenplay, but this one nose dives from the start and flies lazy boring circles all the way to the pathetic impact with the ground at the end. The characters are neither believable, nor well acted. There are a few designated villains, whose only role is to be villains. An uncaring mother who actually cares. Whoa, exciting stuff eh? A bad girl who is really OK, it's just that she has a tough family life. Even for bored suburban kids this is just pathetic. It's not just plot holes, but the characters themselves who are unbelievable. One of the main characters is a boy who only seems to know how to cringe and whimper. He's supposed to be the protagonists best friend, but what really pulls or holds them together? Nothing that meets the eye in the film. He gets a little cut on his hand and falls apart. The protagonist pays his bills for him like a wimp. His Mom finds out he is flying to London and he immediately abandons his carefully laid plans without a squeak. He even throws/gives his ticket away. What a maroon. What really cooked it for me is when he is standing there while Annie takes a shower. He isn't even looking at her. OK, fine, no problem with the idea that the audience doesn't get to see anything, but what 18 year old straight (the film seems to indicate this) male is going to stand next to a good looking young woman and not even sneak a glance. Unrealistic? Floridly unrealistic. He doesn't even appear interested.Or how about when Annie pulls a gun on the cops and manages an impossible escape, then breaks into the school with the flick of a knife (no alarms?), and sleeps on a mat in the gymnasium. In fact, she seems to have the run of the whole set with impunity. And speaking of running and getting around with ease, how do you do that after a major gunshot wound to the abdomen? We get a sappy sound track, a sappy background story about the girl and her little brother, and a long, drawn out, uninspiring, uninteresting plot with unbelievable characters and plot holes galore. What's not to like about that? I gave it a 3.
HORRIBLE "movie", GREAT music video
posted on 30 Jul 2009I was quite interested in seeing this movie due to the clever marketers taking advantage of the "Sixth Sense" and "Batman Begins" names (certain people involved with those two good movies were involved with this peice of garbage). So, honestly, I couldn't wait to see it.
Man, talk about a huge letdown!
The acting is laughable. The screenplay is lame. The direction will make you cringe.
1. The acting - All the actors in this movie sucked, but the worst has got to be the dead kid's mom. This lady is a freakin robot! Sure, you can say that life's tragedies have numbed her, but c'mon!!! She played the part like if she was in The Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Maybe the director told her to play it like that, but he sucks too, so that isn't a good reason.
2. The screenplay - It's amatuer. The dialogue is dumb. The whole thing is just lame. And the whole thing of making the girl kill the guy then love the guy was horribly stupid.
3. The director - *sigh* David Goyer... you are an example of someone who was at the right place at the right time and just got lucky. You were lucky to have a hand in Batman Begins cause that has given you incredible clout. But let's face it, you're a horrible director. FYI: You were supposed to make a feature film, not a music video. You'd be an awesome music video director. But in films, where a story, atmosphere, and emotions, are intrgral parts of the movie experience; you just don't have it man. You just don't have it.
Last thought: This movie is on the same level as Date Movie or Epic Movie.
Horribly bad. Go see the original instead.
posted on 21 Jul 2009*** This comment may contain spoilers *** I could not get past the horrible casting of Annie. She was physically the worst possible choice to play the role. Where was her muscle tone? Also, she couldn't act her out of a paper bag. Why would Nick fall in love with the person that nearly killed him? I can see maybe forgiving her, but falling in love in such a short time? Completely nonsensical trash. I didn't know who made this, but I had a feeling Disney had their evil hands involved in this. Pete was the worst person to have as a friend. Finally, Annie should not have died. She should have gone to prison and paid for her crimes. Another example of why movies or TV shows should not be remade for American audiences. Case in point, Coupling is a great and funny British comedy series while the American version is a horrible abortion of a TV show. 1 star is too good for this trashy movie.
The real shame is that the main character survived
posted on 21 Jul 2009QUOTH THE TRAILER: "Life, death and something in between. How do you solve a murder when the victim is you? Together they must solve his murder... Before it's too late."EXCEPT --- The viewers already know who murdered Nick. THERE IS NO MYSTERY! NOTHING IS UNCLEAR OR VAGUE IN THE SLIGHTEST! In fact the rest of the movie is just a bunch of boring morons grousing about being morons in really unentertaining moron ways. Seriously, "before it's too late" for WHAT?!? Dead people tend to stay dead once they are murdered. Talk about spoilers for the "plot". Did they cut out a whole major plot line centered on the police investigating the murder with all of this mopey nonsense centering on the main moron and moron friends?Wow. Wait a half hour for a bunch of moody morons to "kill" off the main character. Wait another hour for the "dead" main character to be rescued from vague-certain-death. Then 20 minutes of stupid to chug on afterward. After watching the main character mope around for an hour, I really wanted the main character to stay dead and the movie to end. It got to be overly-long around the 40 minute mark. It became a chore to endure at the 50 minute mark. The good news is that the body-count of the moronic gang of killers tops off with main character moron's buddy and Annie-moron's boyfriend. Plus Annie-moron gets slapped (something long overdue sadly lacking a few punches and kicks and more punches - hey, that character wonders why she is abused when she provokes it constantly) near the end by Nick-moron's mother. Thankfully, a bleeding hours-old gut wound is not visible through a shirt, does not affect a character's expressions in the slightest, and allows for long line-repeats from other characters. The ending is just as stupid as every stupid shallow vapid character in this movie. The photography and audio and lighting were good though. The main characters and the writers (excluding the mom plus the police) all deserved to be beaten until death. The good ending would have ended with Nick's week-long coma resulting in certain death.
A sad excuse for a film
posted on 18 Jul 2009*Contains Spoilers*
This was one of the worst movies I ever saw. Not only was it boring, but the trailer promised something and never delivered. I possible could have forgiven the movie had I not been "suckered" into watching expecting something more. For those who do not know what I'm talking about, the trailer made it seem as if this was going to be a mystery about the m.c trying to solve his own death. The truth is, there is no mystery, suspense, or even a real plot.
I feel the problem with this movie(and there are so many), was character development, plot, and realism. The character were two dimensional, which made it impossible to feel anything for their predicament. Nick whined the entire movie, teen angst is one thing, but come on... no one loves me, how could you do this, my mom doesn't understand me... I felt like I was back in high school.
One major issue was, how the writers could expect the watcher to sympathize with Annie(which is important for the conclusion). Yeah, she had a tough life, but it hardly justifies attempted murder. The whole ending hinders on the watcher changing their mind about Annie(which I didn't). While she sacrificed herself at the end, it is also hard to forget that she was the one who beat him half to death in the first place, and hid the body.
The plot was completely ridiculous. Are we meant to believe that everyone in a state between life and death is walking around in a living hell? I would expect Nick to run into a lot more people. I also found it hard to believe that the friend(I forget his name), wouldn't go to the police. While they explained it in the movie(sort of), it was still unbelievable. All the friend would have to to do is say exactly what happened. He(the friend) was jumped, beaten into telling Annie a name. He chose Nick b/c he was supposed to be in England. She and her posse beat Nick to death, the end. The friend was there, but didn't participate. Just b/c he didn't do anything does not mean he is liable for murder. Most people wouldn't do anything outnumbered 3 to 1, with one girl know to carry a knife. The other unbelievable plot point was Nicks survival. Are we supposed to believe that someone can be beaten almost to death, survive being dumped into a hole, exposed to the elements, and survive days without food and water.
This movie lacked realism all the way through. It is one thing to suspend disbelief for a movie, but you can only go so far. The most disappointing part is that this could have been good. The plot(being murdered and having to solve your own murder), could have been interesting and exciting.
R.I.P. the Invisible. Hopefully no one ever tries to bring this one back from the dead.
Some reviewers don't have the ability to see past handsomeness.
posted on 17 Jul 2009"Apparently the other reviewers don't have the ability to see past explosions and fake fights in films to see the depth portrayed in this movie." Oh, My, God! Are you 4-real?? Do you really have to sink so low to defend a movie you like...?I HATE this movie, and i don't even like action. Shocking! You probably think me a really narrow minded person for not understanding the awesomeness and deepness of this movie. Maybe i am. But maybe, and listen too this cuz this is WILD.. Maybe YOU'RE the one who's narrow minded for not seeing the stupidity. Haha, yeah i know. It's all so confusing.. Right? And the boy is ugly and whiny and really really lame! So, yeah. :P

Promising Original Idea, Unfortunately Wasted in a Corny and Implausible Romantic Situation
posted on 26 Aug 2009In Burnaby, Nick Powell (Justin Chatwin) is an excellent high-school student that raises money selling homeworks and results of quizzes to his schoolmates. He aims to travel secretly London to have a course of writer and he tells his best friend is Pete Egan (Chris Marquette) that he has already bought the airplane ticket but he has not told to his mother yet. Meanwhile the punk and smalltime thief Annie Newton (Margarita Levieva) has a problem with Pete, who owes money to her. Nick pays the debts of his friend and the angry Annie attacks Nick in the messroom. In the night, Annie and her boyfriend Marcus Bohem (Alex O'Loughlin) that is in parole rob a car and Annie breaks a jewelry window and steals the exposed jewels. When Annie tells Marcus that she will not share her theft, he anonymously denounces Annie to the police. The police go to the high-school and open Annie's locker, and the girl assumes that Pete has rat her. Later Annie and her gang attack Pete and the coward teenager to protect himself tells that actually Nick has called the police; then the raged trio chases Nick and beats him to death, dumping his body in a sewer. On the next morning, Nick goes to school and finds that he is actually a spirit, invisible for people. Further, he tries to communicate with the living to find his body since he is still alive."The Invisible" has a promising original idea of a spirit in limbo while his body is in coma. The beginning of this movie is excellent and without clichés and developed in an adequate pace and good development of characters. However, the writer in a certain moment wastes the plot with a corny and implausible romantic situation. How could a handsome teenager that has no problem with girls fall in love for the girl that tried to kill him a couple of days ago? This dull situation really spoiled the movie since it is not believable. Pete is one of the most despicable characters I have recently seen in a movie. At least, the writer gives a decent conclusion in the end and Annie has the deserved fate. My vote is seven.Title (Brazil): "O Invisível" ("The Invisible")
