Littlefoot and Friends Embark on an Eggs-tra Special Adventure!
posted on 11 Jun 2006[CONTAINS SPOILERS] Littlefoot the long-neck, Cera the three-horn, Spike the spike- tail, Ducky the swimmer and Petrie the flyer are back! They've been living in the utopia known as the Great Valley for some time now and they just love it! The kids were trying to find something to do. They tried rolling rocks down a hill but got yelled at. Ducky suggested they play Sharp-Tooth attacks in the sheltered grass, which was in swamp so the kids sunk when trying to go there. The adults saved them luckily but were quite angry with them. Littlefoot's grandparents told him that they worry about him like all loving parents and warn him that greater dangers, like Sharp-teeth, are out there. Cera calls Littlefoot, Spike, Ducky and Petrie to meet her that night. She's become fed up with adult rule and so were they. Cera suggested they run away. But to where? Littlefoot suddenly noticed two suspicious characters running away from Ducky's nest with an egg! These two were Ozzie and Strut, two bumbling Velociraptors that had just ventured into the valley. The kids chase after them right into the Great Beyond. They find the egg and return it to the valley. Before long, it hatches to reveal...A baby Sharp-Tooth! They run, accept for Littlefoot who got stuck. He soon learned that this Sharp-tooth didn't seem harmful so he named it Chomper. Ozzie and Strut find their egg gone and go after Littlefoot and friends, but it was Chomper to the rescue because he could cast a large shadow. After that act of bravery, the kids accepted Chomper into their family. But back in the Great Beyond, Chomper's large, nasty parents find their son gone and journey to the Great Valley to find him. Ozzie and Strut weren't finished with the kids so they grab Littlefoot and are about to eat him, when they're chased by the Sharp-Teeth, who are then delighted to get Chomper back and the three return to the Great Beyond. Littlefoot had been like a daddy to the little guy and was sad to see him go, but life soon returned to normal in the Great Valley and Littlefoot, Spike, Ducky, Petrie and Cera played all day until they were called away to dinner. Pretty good Land Before Time sequel! This one was followed by an endless line of sequels! Why oh why?! Land Before Time III: The Time of the Great Giving was good, so was Part IV. Part V was okay and VI was entertaining, but VII and VIII were groaners. I'm sure the new one, Part IX, isn't very good either. My guess is they're going to stop at 22. But anyway, if you saw the original and liked it, I recommend The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure! -

posted on 17 Nov 2005I remember seeing the land before time 2 when it came out in 1994, this one came out 6 years after the first land before time (1988). This story sets out when Littlefoot and his friends find an egg, it hatches and they find out that it's a sharptooth, they get use to it as they call chomper, a male little T-rex.
the best out of all the sequels
posted on 02 Jul 2005After the original classic animated film "The Last Before Time", there came many direct-to-video release sequels with which the original director and animation crew had no relation with. A lot of the sequels, and there are many of them, are not all that good, especially not when compared to the original. The original "Land Before Time" showed the dinosaur world as being tough and frightening even to viewers. The sequels are not so frightening or tough, less violent, and are notorious for their reaching out to really young children audiences with their singalong songs. And the first of the sequels, being this film, is a bit like that.I have only recently seen this film for the first time in years. I had seen a few of the later sequels before this and was very unimpressed. But the first sequels is by far, much better than those that followed. It sticks the closest to the original film's style and although nowhere near as good, is still a fine family film. This is the one sequel in the series I think the whole family will enjoy. This one also has the best peril in it, making the tyrannosauruses (called sharp teeth) a lot more frightening and compelling villains than those that followed. And unlike the later sharp teeth, who mostly just growled, these ones roar like the original Sharptooth, the antagonist from the first film. And they are more violent and frightening and thus, more convincing. The other villains are a pair of egg-stealing struthiomimuses named Ozzy and Strut who are bumbling villains just trying to find lunch, but keep missing their meals. Ozzy and Strut are actually very comical and somewhat likable villains, even though they aren't nice guys. And in fact, their song "Eggs" is the only song in the entire series that I find catchy. The film also retains the qualities and characteristics of the character the best. They are more serious in the first sequel than the later ones. True, they do sing annoying songs, but are still shown struggling to grow up and mature in life and prove that they believe they can take care of themselves, very much like the audience members who primarily watch movies like this. But Littlefoot is still the most cautious, Cera the strongest, and so on and so forth. The character of Chomper was a fine addition to the cast and thankfully, he doesn't talk like he would in later sequels.Bottom line, out of all the notoriously bad sequels that followed the original "Land Before Time", the second one "The Great Valley Adventure" is by far, the best out of them all. And it's not all that bad really. I actually found it to be quite entertaining in its own way. So this one I can recommend. But those that followed after this one, I can't really speak as highly of.
A sequel that does no justice to a brilliant original
posted on 29 Jun 2004Direct to video follow ups are rarely any good, and when I heard the follow up to Don Bluths 1988 masterpiece the land before time was going to take that format, I was deeply troubled. This time Bluth has nothing to do with it, and its a wise move as the movie will only disappoint. The story begins with little foot and his gang living peaceful and happy lives in the great valley, however all that is disturbed when two egg snatching dinosaurs start to steal eggs from their home. On one occasion the gang follow the thieves only for a terrible egg mix up to occur. It brings a baby sharp tooth into the valley and opens up one of the great valleys walls to attack from the dreaded beasties. The film is weak in nearly every sense, not least in the fact the egg catching villains are pathetic. In the previous picture the villain, a T-Rex named sharptooth generated real threat and was always a haunting presence in your mind. Here the two villains are simply clowns and about as scary as Littlefoot himself. The gang are just as endearing during this outing, but the themes are simply not strong enough this time to sufficiently care about them. The animation seems a little more amateurish this time round but it takes close inspection to tell the difference. There are also, unlike the original a selection of songs though none of them are memoroble,in fact some are just plain irritating To conclude the film is what you would expect from a direct to video release, not worth bothering with.
Welcome to the group, Chomper.
posted on 23 Jun 2004Chomper is a cute new character who steals the film. The villains comprise of two egg stealers & two Sharp Tooths. The plot is overlong but enjoyable. Perhaps the inclusion of songs was a mistake but they're not too annoying. If you loved the original then you'll be happy to meet the characters again. I certainly was. 6/10
A great sequel!
posted on 07 Jul 2003I'm a big fan of The Land Before Time Series. I think they're better sequels than the All Dogs Go to Heaven sequels even though I'm kind of upset that Don Bluth didn't have any involvement in them because I think he's a wonderful animator and storyteller. In this sequel Littlefoot and his friends after reaching the Great Valley sneak off one night because they're upset of their parents treating them like babies. While they're talking about their parents they witness two egg thieves named Ozzy and Strut steal an egg from Ducky and Spike's nest and chase them into the Mysterious Beyond but when they get the egg they realize that it's not theirs and wait for it to hatch. The egg hatches into a baby sharptooth in which Littlefoot names Chomper and he and his friends raise Chomper but soon Chomper's Parents arrive in the Great Valley and Littlefoot and his friends must return him to them before their parents close the opening to the Mysterious Beyond! Filled with wonderful characters, animation, and songs (My favorite being Peaceful Valley) Land Before Time 2 Great Valley Adventure is a great sequel any of the Land Before Time fans can enjoy! 10 out of 10!
A worthy sequel
posted on 08 Oct 2002The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure, directed by Roy Allen Smith, is a worthy sequel to the original The Land Before Time. The graphics are so stunning and the voice work is done to perfection. It just makes both you and your children love the series even more.Ozzy (Jeff Bennett) and Strut (Rob Paulsen) are egg stealer's who have just stolen an egg. Littlefoot (Scott McAfee)and his friends Cera (Candace Hutson), Petrie (Jeff Bennett), Ducky (Heather Hogan) and Spike stop them from making off with the egg, and decide to return it to its mother. When they do they discover that the egg isn't from the mother dinosaur. So the crew decides to parent the egg, but when it hatches they discover it is a sharp tooth. They run but all come back. Before the fun gets to good the baby sharp tooth's parents show up and take their son back. They also get back at the egg stealer's when they attempt to steal their baby. This is also the first in the Land Before Time videos to have songs. Peaceful Valley, Eggs, and You're One of Us Now. This is a movie for everyone in the entire family, young and old. This is followed by ten sequels.
My 2nd favourite L.B.T
posted on 15 Aug 2002Genre: Animation, dinosaurs, sequel.Main characters: Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie and Spike. I like these characters and I'm glad you see them so often on all these L.B.T films.Actors: The ones who do the main characters are Scott McAfee (Littlefoot), Candace Huston (Cera), Heather Hogan (Ducky), Jeff Bennet (Petrie) and Rob Paulsen (Spike). What happens: Some of our favourite cartoon dinosaurs are back in this really good sequel, this time happy to be in the great valley. They see two "egg-stealers" stealing an egg and go after them (which means braving the MYSTERIOUS BEYOND). Will they retrieve the stolen egg?My thoughts: I think this L.B.T is underrated. It is a good, clean, fun family film, with characters who are easy to relate to and a good and exciting storyline - perfect for children and some older people! :-) Yes, it is more happy than the original "Land Before Time" but children don't want to see another loved character dying - do they (although I love that film anyway)? For the wee ones, this is a good film for them to sit down to and probably for parents as well. After that you may wish to watch the others, go ahead if you wish! :-) This is a good series from beginning to end. Of course, this and the others have lots of flaws, but you are likely not to be disappointed by at least one aspect in each film! What you may like about the film: You may like the lovely and fun songs. You may like the animation. You may like the plot and storyline. You may like the characters. You may like the feeling of the story. These features pleased me and I hope they please you.Recommended to: Families who like cartoon films, people who thought the first L.B.T was a tad bit too sad and particularly for cartoon-loving children. Enjoy! :-)
The Great Valley Adventure
posted on 28 Dec 2001I finally was able to watch all the Land Before Time sequels, as silly as they may be, I loved the original Land Before Time and I read a lot of these scary comments, I was still curious about them. So I was expecting nothing but trash when it came to the first sequel, granted I know that the singing doesn't really do much for the story and it's a bit stupid, but actually I thought this was a decent family movie that is very enjoyable. It's a great story for the kids, it's harmless and has great morals. The reason I think there's a lot of hate on the sequels is because of the love we all have for the first Land Before Time, but I think this is just a new way for the generation of today to enjoy the same stories we had.Littlefoot and his friends are living happily in their new home, under their families' watchful eyes. When the gang tries to get to the sheltering grass to play, but land in the quicksand surrounding it, the grownups come and rescue them, then lecture them that night. Cera then tells the others that they need to prove they are independent by running away for a while into the Mysterious Beyond, a location just outside the valley. Before they leave, they notice two egg nappers stealing an egg from Ducky's nest. They chase them into the Beyond, during which a landslide occurs. The egg rolls safely back to the nest, but the five are under the impression that it was destroyed in the landslide. Then, Ducky notices what looks like the egg, only slightly larger. The gang "return" this egg to the Valley, only to find out that the stolen egg and this one are not the same. They decide to hatch it, nonetheless, until the egg hatches, revealing a baby sharptooth. While the others run away, Littlefoot decides he's safe, and tries to raise the hatchling on leaves. When he hears the others calling for help, as the egg nappers Ozzy and Strut are attacking them, he runs to their aid, while "Chomper" follows him. Chomper's shadow frightens the villains away, after which Littlefoot exchanges introductions between Chomper and the others and they accept him. But how is the Valley going to accept a sharp tooth? You'll have to watch to find out.Yeah, the plot is predictable, the singing isn't necessary, and the story may be a little Barney-like, but don't go into these sequels expecting Citizen Kane. Just have fun with them. I know I'm a sap, but I just loved Chomper and Littlefoot's relationship, it was so adorable the way Chomper just wanted to hang onto Littlefoot and was like his shadow. I felt that this story had a great moral to the kids and personally as an adult I still find it very watchable. These movies are made more so for the kids, so give these films a break, The Land Before Time 2 is a good movie.6/10
The perfect sequel to an already perfect movie
posted on 28 Nov 2001I am very loyal to ALL l.b.t films. It would be an insult to the director who probably just admired the first film and was probably eager to put his efforts into this sequel to tell him that his film is no good. Don's work cannot be matched by Roy's or Charles', but they gave their best work into the chain of sequels. The Great Valley Adventure is a charming treasure to both young and old(UNDERSTANDING old guys, okay?). The songs may be a bit irritating, but that he story is captivating and the it has a dose of laughter for young 'uns. At the very least, it will give you more than an hour of contentment with (SPOILERS AHEAD)the baby Rex Chomper and the fresh new villains Ozzy and Strut, plus the sharp-tooth duo. I do think that the song "Eggs" is at least amusing and that the sharp-tooth battle was worth seeing. Bye for now... I hope I didn't give too much away, I didn't know if that would be counted as a spoiler, but just in case...
The point?
posted on 03 Mar 2001Why doesn't the movie industry learn to leave a good thing alone? Why must they force out sequel after sequel (and each one is progressively worse)? It completely ruined the effect of the first movie when this and the sequels came out. The kids I baysit want to know why Littlefoot and the others don't sing in the first one, and keep pointing out where they think songs should go. I've had one kid insist they should redo the movie, since there are no songs. Really...singing dinosaurs? Why is this necessary?
The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure
posted on 18 Jul 2000If the kids liked the first film, then they will like the straight to video sequel. Personally I found it corny in places, but it does have an interesting story. The dinosaurs have made it to The Great Valley and are living there with their parents, Littlefoot by the way is living with his grandparents. The Valley has now got two dinosaurs stealing eggs from nests, one egg belonging to a Sharp Tooth. This Sharp Tooth, Chomper, is found by Littlefoot and he is trying to make him a nice T-Rex to be a friend to the other friends. The Sharp Tooths obviously get in the Valley and, chase out the egg thieves and the good dinosaurs block their entry. Kids will like it, I'm not sure I'd want to see it again. Adequate!
It's good enough to satisfy your kids hunger for fun.
posted on 14 Jul 1999My Take: Decent straight-to-video effort. Granted, sparks won't fly freely in the direct-to-video sequel THE LAND BEFORE TIME II: THE GREAT VALLEY ADVENTURE, but it's good enough to satisfy your kids hunger for fun. It's a film where you could just leave the kids and allow yourself to do something else. It's harmless, family movie, which, surprisingly, I found decent.Like all direct-to-video efforts, expect it to have a low-quality plot, weak characterizations and childish situations. But with all it's low shots, you can just look in your child's eyes and see how you rate the film. I remember watching this non-stop sequels over and over again when I was a kid, in other words, I was a big fan of all this stuff. But know, THE LAND BEFORE TIME II has dated badly. Now, I remember how inferior the new plot is to the original's plot. But, rating as a kid flick, it's something to keep the kids busy. It's a bit better than the other sequels that followed.By the end, upon seeing the eyes of the kids, you decide what rating you'll give to the film, but I give it, at least ***, a high rating for a film that isn't that good on quality. Nevertheless, it provides as much fine fun to kids and as decent enough as I remember.Video movie rating: *** out of 5.

Strictly-for-kids, twee and dull.
posted on 04 Mar 2008Alright, so the original was a little on the cute side, but it had a sense of wonder, of youthful innocence and to cut a long story short was a moving tale of love, friendship and courage. However, Part 2 is no more than a Disney-style cartoon, cute and twee through-and-through. There's no real sense of awe or danger - it's more like a day in the life of a young dinosaur. Any kind of reality is crushed by the unwise inclusion of some insufferably bad songs. There is a cute baby T-Rex, but his parents lack the presence of the T-Rex in the first film. Other hazards include two egg-stealing Struthiomimids who, in the tradition of the most melodramatic cartoon villains, have ex-public schoolboy accents. Very silly. There are moments when the film starts showing promise - the swamp scene, the journey into the Mysterious Beyond, but overall it's just a let-down. See the original instead, and if you've seen it then go straight to Part 3 of this series. Only undemanding kids will find anything of interest in this harmless, twee film.
