A slightly amusing, hammy, mid-teenage girl flick that eschews any real character development in favour of Duff's apparent charm and seminal comedic ability
posted on 21 Aug 2009*MOST PROBABLY CONTAINS SPOILERS*STARRING Hilary Duff as Lizzie McGuire, Adam Lamberg, Yani Gellman, Alex BorsteinLet me start by saying that I'm no snob when it comes to watching movies. I'll usually watch (and enjoy) pretty much anything: be it, say, classic Hitchcock; laughable Irwin Allen disaster pics; mindless action flicks; or even cutesy-pie movies aimed at prepubescent girls. That, dear IMDb surfers, brings me to The Lizzie McGuire Movie, a slightly amusing, hammy, mid-teenage girl flick that eschews any real character development in favour of Duff's apparent charm and seminal comedic ability to fill the ninety or so minutes. I should add that I have never seen (and will probably never see) an episode of Lizzie McGuire, the now-defunct Disney-owned television show that spawned - surprise, surprise - this Disney-owned family release. I suppose this movie was a farewell to the Lizzie McGuire character - but I swear it'll be lost on you if you are one of those who has not seen the television show. Take, for instance, the whole subplot about Lizzie's younger brother and his blonde cohort's reason for trying to show up Lizzie at every turn (which was totally lost on me), and classmate Kate's reason for being such a bitch to Lizzie (??).But anyhoo, bubbly Lizzie heads to Italy with her classmates to see the sights of Rome, but spends very little actual time with them. (The extras playing her classmates must have felt quite wooden making this movie, having nothing much to say or do.) On the other hand, Lizzie's motormouth teacher (Borstein, a former MAD TV regular) plays (or should I say, overplays) the role of Miss Ungermeyer, and, as a result, comes across as very grating. The scene where teacher and students visit the Trevi Fountain is especially grating (and cringeworthy). Ungermeyer, with an American flag conspicuously in hand, cuts a swath through the local population - and 'mows down' any cultural sensitivities by obnoxiously barking "Scusi" and "Grazie"at the locals.Without venturing into too much detail about the fairly tame and somewhat lame storyline, Lizzie's transformation from school student to fresh-faced singer is mildly amusing (but an oh-so-obvious marketing ploy by Duff's music label). TIRED is one word to describe this same old 'girl comes out of her shell' storyline that's been done a million time before. Private Benjamin, Protocol, Educating Rita, Romancing the Stone, Legally Blonde, and The Princess Diaries, come to mind as a few (more successful) titles of this particular genre. So, if you're looking for screen chemistry, you may find some between leads Duff and Gellman. If you're looking for a movie that showcases Rome's beauty, this movie won't disappoint. If you're looking for something above average, with a touch of magic to it, you probably won't find it here.5/10
Not Real, Hilary
posted on 17 Aug 2009Okay so if I go to Rome will I meet some famous singer and ride around on his red motorcyle? Not in real life! The idea of the movie was fine but once it was made it is horrible compared to other movies like this. Sorry, well not really because if i truly was sorry i wouldn't be writing this :o)

posted on 12 Jul 2009I thought that the Lizzie Mcguire Movie was one of the best movies I have seen in a really long time. It related to a teenagers life I think and it was good for even little children to watch. I thought it was hillarious and had a good plot to it. I think that the movie was well written. I can't wait to get the dvd and I can't wait to get HIlary Duff's new cd that is coming out. I recommend teenagers to go see the movie and they went and they thought it was excellent!!! The Lizzie McGuire movie was just awesome and I recommend anyone to go see it!!!

Beautiful!
posted on 26 Jun 2009I saw this movie Monday and it seriously was terrific. Shame that there was only about 4 and a half people in there not including my mom and sister. You see I have been waiting for Gordo and Lizzie to get closer I have seen every episode where they hug and just be friends who look out for each other. The only thing that bugs me is the fact that the animated Lizzie popped up a whole lot during the movie. Igonoring that flaw through the film was a piece of cake cause the rest of the movie was spelind. If you have to ask me the plot was short and sweet it also helps you discover that there is a friend out there that really cares for you. As you can see Hilary Duff can act, dance and the best talent of hers is singing! I thought "Dreams Are Made Of" was the best song in the movie. Krystle (Sister) loved the Atomic Kitten song "Tide Is High (Get The Feeling). So a cute plot, terrific music, and the most greatest cast in the whole wide world. What more could Lizzie Mcguire fans ask for? Nothing, I am going to write a sequel where Lizzie takes another trip to Canada (I'll explain later) so this review coming from a 13- year - old Lizzie Mcguire fan and Hilary Duff lover I say it was a truly awesome film. Infact before it comes out on video I plan to see it again on the big screen then wait for it's DVD release in a couple of months. So see this movie or you'll miss out on the greatest trip to the movies in your life!

posted on 26 Jun 2009"The Lizzie McGuire" movie is just too cute! If you are a fan of the show, you will love the movie. Suprisingly, I didn't miss Miranda for a second! Hilary Duff and Adam Lamberg do an awesome job as lovable Lizzie and quirky Gordo. The entire cast makes for an enjoyable, funny movie. The plot may be a little cheesy, but it's all in good fun. The scenery is beautiful, the music is easy to sing along with, and the story is amusing. Good fun!
Hilary Duff Rocks!
posted on 22 Jun 2009This must have been one of the best movies I have seen. Hilary Duff could not have been better. I mean she was wonderful, she should have won an Oscar for her role in that movie. I would like to say to all those reviewers who gave the lizzie mcguire a one star that they should consider themselves lucky they haven't been beaten up already. Especially one of my friends, Fat Man he hates Hilary but he loved the movie! He totally changed his view on Hilary Duff after the movie. My girlfriend Elise loved the movie!
Predictable and boring teenage fantasy
posted on 12 Jun 2009This is the film version of the TV show on The Disney Channel and while I wasn't expecting a good film I still wasn't prepared by the total lack of creativity. Story is of course about Lizzie McGuire (Hilary Duff) who upon graduating junior high school goes on a class trip to Rome, Italy. While she is looked at as a goof by her fellow students she is comforted by her best friend Gordo (Adam Lamberg) while her class is led by their Principle Miss Ungermeyer (Alex Borstein). As soon as Lizzie arrives she is approached by Italian pop singer Paolo Valisari (Yani Gellman) who tells her that she is the spitting image of Isabella who is the other half of his act. He convinces Lizzie to play her double and sing with him at the big awards ceremony that takes place soon.*****SPOILER ALERT*****Lizzie must sneak away from the rest of the class to be with Paolo and when the real Isabella shows up Gordo tells her what is taking place and they figure out that Paolo is just using Lizzie to make Isabella look bad so his career can go on without her. This film is directed by Jim Fall who probably earned his biggest paycheck directing this and a few years back he made an interesting independent film called "Trick". Fans of the television show will probably find this watchable but for others your in for a real tepid experience. What stands out is the uncreative script that offers shallow and badly written characters and a plot that is never realistic but of course it's not meant to be. This is aimed at young girls and it's definitely a fantasy about teenage pop culture, shallow and pretentious pop culture! First off, what school sends their junior high graduates on a trip to Rome, Italy where they stay at a posh hotel? I wish I could have gone to that school! The acting is either unbelievable or downright terrible. There is more posing than acting going on and if Duff doesn't take some acting lessons than her career will be regulated to just "Cutesy" roles. At one point Gellman tells Duff "You shine like the light from the sun" and plants a kiss on her. At this moment I decided that if I ever have daughters they will not be going to Italy without me. At the end of the film Lizzie kisses Lamberg and I guess we are suppose to think that she would rather be with him than some exciting guy. All of you pimple poppers will know that this is baloney! Film is aimed at young teen girls and you can't argue with them (On anything) but for the rest of you this is a badly written film full of cliche's and cardboard characters and it relies solely on the charm of Duff to carry it. It's going to need a lot more than that in order for me to recommend it.
the next June Preisser or Ann Rutherford
posted on 06 Jun 2009Hilary Duff has a classic beauty on the screen, the camera really loves her. She is like Ann Rutherford(fro mthe Andy Hardy films of the 40's), yes this is a typical teen film, but Duff makes it worth watching, the only real problem I have with the film is where the heck is MIRANDA(another gorgeous timeless beauty Lalaine), was Disney too cheap to get Lalaine? Lalaine's cute retro 50's looks are sorely missed(& her devious personality). This fil mwould have been perfect if only lalaine were here, and the film doesn't even explain where Lizzie's best friend Miranda is, thay might have said she wasn't able to make the trip, but they just thought we'd not notice. And am I crazy or is Gordo not played by the same actor fro mthe series, this Gordo seems not as "Cool." Well the film is still 4 star worthy because you get to see Duff's amazing beauty for 2 hours. Teens will lodore it, or her.
For Any Girl
posted on 04 Jun 2009The Lizzie McGuire Movie is awesome! The story is 15 year old Lizzie McGuire goes on a school fieldtrip to Italy before going to high school. When Lizzie meets up with a famous rock star, Paolo Valasary at the local ice cream shop, everyone mistakes her for Paolo's singing partner, Isabella Paricci. When Paolo needs Isabella and Isabella is away, Paolo asks Lizzie to sing with him at the International Music Video Awards( IMVA's). It's a wonderful movie. Artists like Blondie and Hilary Duff are in the soundtrack for the movie. Bonus features include behind the scenes footage of Hilary Duff recording her new album "Metamorphosis" (2003), a music video and the making of the movie. I highly reccomend this movie.
May be a treat for young girls and older women, but others may find it too predictable
posted on 29 May 2009"The Lizzie McGuire Movie" is taken from the popular Disney Channel series "Lizzie McGuire," which are the adventures of Lizzie; a girl going through all of the teenage stereotype problems, including: popular snobby girls, guys that everybody admires and parents who embarrass you. This time, Lizzie and her group of friends travel to Paris, or some other place (I forgot what it was.) and Lizzie just happens to bear a striking resemblance to a famous singer. So, another famous singer (that just happens to be a guy that Lizzie admires) wants Lizzie to pose as the singer she resembles. Then, near the end, the movie takes a twist, we finally get to the problem. This is a major flaw in the movie. the audience waits a long time until we finally get to the problem. The rest of the movie shows Lizzie preparing for the concert. I'm not so sure, but if she did well during the concert may have been the main conflict.Anyways, by the time we finally get to the dilemma, the movie becomes somewhat predictable. I remember my mother guessing the ending perhaps ten minutes before the ending. She guessed right.Fans of this may enjoy the show "Lizzie McGuire," along with other movies, such as: "Sleepover," "Raise Your Voice," "What a Girl Wants," "Miss Congeniality," "Legally Blonde" and "A Cinderella Story." Older women will enjoy "Stepmom" and "Joy Luck Club." Anybody else (I'm not sure who) may enjoy "Memento," "Toy Story," "The Terminal," "Million Dollar Baby" and "Dark City." Good: Non-labored, will appeal to some women Bad: Predictable, clichéd, takes a long time to get to the dilemma, looks average Feel free to send me a Private Message regarding this comment.
The Ultimate Tween fantasy... :D
posted on 15 May 2009The Low-down: First of all I want to say that I give this movie 5stars for exactly what it is, a peice of family/tween friendly entertainment. And of course a treat for fans of the Lizzie Miguire show. But its pointless comparing it to films that are trying to be profound, because while this is trying to be a kids film with a good message: Be true to who you are, despite the consequences.
And on all those levels it succeeds. I *Loved* it, I'll admit it, I did. And I love the show as well. The show is a cutesy Disney channel show always projecting a positive message, and I loved it. And the movie is exactly the same.
Plot: We follow Lizzie as her and her fellow graduating class go to Rome. Well she ends being mistaken for an international pop superstar and going on a whirlwind romance and performing in a live concert. Needless to say when I was 14yrs this was just about my fantasy as well, only I imagined singing my own songs, ect. But anyways besides that. Its faithful to the show.
Bar none: I you've ever had an outlandish fantasy of any sort, you can appreciate this, if you love the show, or if you love good & wholesome tween/family entertainment.
Target age: Girls 8 - 14yrs & their parents.
Hilary Duff made it particularly bad.
posted on 15 May 2009"The Lizzie McGuire Movie" is not all that its cracked up to be. If you've watched it, you will see some really horrible acting, and that's basically why this movie, in my opinion, failed miserably. It did not meet my expectations what-so-ever. For example, take the scene where Lizzie (Hilary Duff) and her mother (Hallie Todd), are saying their "tearful" goodbyes at the airport. I'll give it to Hallie Todd, for having some real emotion and tears, but Miss Duff, was obviously not feeling the emotions because all I heard and saw were some fake sniffling and no tears! This is the acting world! How she became an actress is still a mystery to me. This could have been a better movie, if it'd had more "stars" that we may have been able to recognize, but I was still thoroughly disappointed with the performance of the actors and actresses and would give this movie a 4/10.
Lizzie Goes to Rome
posted on 05 May 2009"The Lizzie McGuire Movie" sees our favorite Junior High students embark on International mis-adventures.
THE STORY:
Lizzie and the gang graduate from Junior High and embark on a summer field trip to Rome with their new High School principal. While in Rome, Lizzie hooks up with Italian pop-sensation Paolo (apparently all cute Italian boys are named Paolo, see the Olsen's "When In Rome" for details) and substitutes for his estranged singing-partner Isabella for whom she is a dead-ringer. Action, adventure and romance ensue as Lizzie pursues her relationship with Paolo, lives the life of a pop star, escapes evil Principal Miss Ungermeyer, and catches all the sights of Rome. In the midst of it all Lizzie learns some valuable life lessons courtesy of Paolo, Gordo and Kate Sanders????
THE ANALYSIS:
The movie starts off quite a bit slow but once in Rome the action begins to pick up. Most of the cast from the series returns for the movie (with the noticeable absence of gal-pal best-bud Miranda). Overall the charm of the series stays through for the movie. Mind you, I'm not a regular of the series (seen a few bits of a few episodes when the Mrs. watches) but from what I've seen of the series it seems like it's pretty much like the show (animated Lizzie and all).
THE DVD SPECIAL FEATURES:
You've got a pretty stuffed DVD features section here, but unfortunately A LOT of it is Disney fluff. Included in the DVD special features are:
1. "Hilary's Roman Adventure" - 12 minute behind the scenes feature where the cast and crew (mainly Hilary) discuss everything from the movie, their experiences filming it, comparisons to the TV show, their experiences touring Rome and Hilary's life on the set (still needs to go to school).
2. "Hilary Duff Music Video - `Why Not'"
3. "In the Recording Studio with Hilary" - 2 minute feature where Hilary discusses her upcoming CD release.
4. "Roamin' Volare" - The Tour of Rome scene with Lizzie and Paolo on the moped done up music video style.
5. 3 deleted scenes with optional director intro commentary.
6. "Sneak Peak" Trailers: The multi-million dollar Disney marketing machine was in full force here!!! This stuff actually plays when the DVD first loads but Disney was nice enough to put in a navigational link to it on the menu in case you wanted to watch it AGAIN. Disney shills the following from their extensive product line:
a. "The Lion King Special Edition DVD"
b. "Lizzie McGuire" TV Volume Sets
c. "Kim Possible" TV series
d. "Sleeping Beauty Special Edition DVD"
e. "George of the Jungle 2"
f. "That's So Raven" TV series
THE VERDICT:
In all, if you're a fan of "Lizzie McGuire" you're bound to love the movie if you haven't seen it yet. Too bad Hilary and Disney couldn't come to terms on a deal as the movie was an ideal branch from the original series set in Junior High to the new seasons they'd have set in High School. Overall though, the movie makes a fitting end to a great series.
GRADES:
Film: 3.5 stars
Extras: 3.5 stars
Overall: 3.5 stars
Highly Recommended

posted on 03 May 2009Crap.This is complete crap. Why it was ever made escapes me.If you're a thirteen-year old bubblegum-chewing braindead teenage girl you'll probably love it, though. The plot is pathetic. I knew how the movie would end before the first ten minutes were up. The acting is hammy as hell. The characters are 100% stereotypes. In fact, they're stereotypes of how adults think that teenagers are in reality. This movie is crap. If you paid money to watch it, you should be shot.
ONE OF THE BEST I'VE SEEN
posted on 25 Apr 2009I am 17 years old and have been watching the show since the start (regardless of how much my friends make fun of me). I didn't get to see the movie in the theatres so I had to wait. I really liked it. I do think that Gordo should have expressed his feelings for Lizzy but thats how things go. I know that this movie isn't for everyone so my advice is go rent it first and if you like it as much as I did, buy it.

posted on 27 Aug 2009The plot was unbelievable and the acting was sub-par. Hilary Duff is a moderate actress at best and this movie did not help that fact. It also showed that a kid can get away with faking sick and running around a foreign city alone with a stranger. If I do say so myself that is a very bad influence on the younger viewers of this movie. Some kids are very impressionable and may not understand that the kids in this movie were just acting. So I give this movie a 1 because of bad acting, bad plot, and bad influence. I say don't see this movie and don't buy it either. Send a message to the entertainment industry that people want a movie that sends a good message to the children of America. And to live life but don't stay inside a dream.
