Awful Awful Awful

posted on 28 Aug 2009

The only thing that could have helped this movie would have been not to have made it at all. There was nothing new, nothing funny and nothing original nothing doing. I'm not sure the movie had a plot. It was so sad in fact that no one it the theater was aware or cared or by the time it was revealed that the Russian trainer committed the murders, played by Henry Czerny as Yuri. The movies lack of humor revolved around Martins annoying French accent, breaking some stuff, hitting some people and the high point was when Martin farted in a sound booth for all to hear. Some movies are funny because there so bad there funny. This movie, however; this movie was just bad.Steve if you needed money I would have paid for my ticket and stared at a refreshment screen rather then have watched this movie. The rest of the cast wasn't bad strangely enough Jean Reno was superb as Martins somewhat loyal sidekick and straight man. Beyonce' Knowles was absolutely stunning as the sexy girl singer and possible murder suspect of the deceased. Kevin Kline should have sat this one out. After the making of In and Out I'm surprised he didn't get a cameo in or get to play the stunt man in the tent in Brokeback Mountain. Anything would have been better then this movie.

Very light

First off, I wasn't expecting a great comedy masterpiece. It was indeed a very «light» movie picture as a friend of mine had told. Not very bright, but worth the ticket. The «nonsense» humor makes it an ideal one-and-a-half hour to loosen up, to simply sit-back and be entertained...without having to push your mind too much...I mean, I, for myself, am not always in a mood for deep films. And «The Pink Panther» wasn't supposed to meet that genre anyway. However, I did expect a clever kind of humor. One thing that did get me to buy the ticket (apart from the fact that I love the Pink Panther, though she/he only appears in the opening credits LOL)was my admiration towards Mr.Steve Martin. Now, I've seen MANY of his movies and in what concerns his acting, similarly to the movie, it wasn't brilliant but enough to fit the script. One thing that made me laugh was Jacques Closeau's constant way of finding out if he was under surveillance, it consisted on simulating a conversation about the weather...yet he does it in such a faking manner that it turns out to be ridiculous. I did enjoy particularly Clive Owen's appearance as 006...quite amusing for us, the female audience. If you're free for the next 93 minutes and just feel like doing something different in order to break the daily routine...this could be the movie to watch.

The best about this movie is Beyoncé's ass in the movie's video clip !

Steve Martin as the pink panther.. HUH !. I don't know who's the genius behind this freaking project ? It's hard to watch in the first place. There is one pink panther and his name is (Peter Sellers). So, why to imitate him? OK, I knew it, there are no good ideas. I hated (Martin) even from the trailers of it !! How could he mistreat 2 comedians "Sellers" and "himself… Once!". Anyway, let's go to its best goods. But there isn't any ! No, only one : Beyoncé. I love her. I even think that she didn't give herself the REAL chance yet (no nudity in movies or magazines, no sex scenes HOW AWFUL !). But in the movie's video clip (Chuck On It) she was fairly sexy if not outrageously sexy. I was stunned when I saw her in that pink swimsuit-like dancing erotically. Or that white suit, she looked wild in it. With a figure, lips, hair, and moves that can make a lot of boys, men, and lesbians dream very wet dreams about making some violent love with her. (I know I did dream of that, several times too !). Hell, I bet she gives the gay a boner as well ! Especially, when she gets in the very clip to bend to the camera to show us her fabulous staggering BIG ass ! Beyoncé's bottom is exceptional one there is no doubt about that. It's, now, the best voluptuous ass in the world. Beating the hot-gone-cold J-Lo's one, and the huge, so ugly, so fake ass of Kimberly Kardashian (Yuck !) which has no character at all. Beyoncé's gives me the only joy which's related to this movie. Her ass is not only priceless but also peerless considering our poor days of skinny asses all the time as the idol beauty !!?? Anyway through just a swift second Beyoncé gives us proudly her great butt, teasing all the skinny girls, challenging them to be anything like that. Truly I felt that it's kind of cheek to show off her cheeks like that but it's the most charming cheek (and cheeks) I ever saw in a long time ! The BOTTOM line : once I heard a story about someone who slapped the hard salami till the salami became done !

Martin makes the most of an unnecessary remake of a classic comic icon's character

THE PINK PANTHER (2006) ** Steve Martin, Kevin Kline, Beyonce Knowles, Jean Reno, Emily Mortimer, Henry Czerny, Kristin Chenoweth, Roger Rees, Jason Statham, (Clive Owen: Cameo) Better-than-expected but pointless remake of the Blake Edwards/Peter Sellers slapstick farces with a game Martin donning the guise of France's most insipid lawman, Inspector Jacques Clouseau, who has been recruited in this prequel of sorts to act as a decoy during the investigation of a murder and theft of the infamous titular jewel while his boss Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Kline, who arguably would've been a better choice as Clouseau come to think of it!) revels for glory in solving the case. Amiable Martin (who co-scripted with Len Blum and Michael Saltzman) goes full out gusto in acting silly, pratfalls and non-sequitors abounding with his twee mustache and Elmer Fuddian take on the French accent. The Pink Panther

I give this movie a ten because I was not comparing it to the original. This movie I have to say was very funny, much funnier than I expected. Steve Martin surprisingly wasn't as annoying as I thought he might be. The mystery was fairly easy to figure out about half way through the movie. I however did not like how they ended the movie, but other than that it was a great movie. Society has defiantly moved towards sexuality, as seen with pretty much every scene with beyonce. Also another surprise was that she was somewhat good in the movie. She wasn't the best, but she was pretty good. The rest of the cast was pretty good, however I think Michael Caine could of been a better choice for the inspectors (Steve Martin) baby sitter / assistant. In summery the pink panther was very funny, the slap stick humor wasn't stupid like "Date Movie." If you're a pink panther fan or new to the series, it is not a waste of money to go see this movie. However for a bit of perspective you may want to go out and rent the originals before you see this rendition.

It's not worth the time and the money

I left the theater after 30 minutes of movie. It's as simple as that. The funniest scene was when Closeau was parking the car... but... oh well... they had to do that same thing over and over and loose a few minutes with it and it got boring. The movie has very good performers, to be honest, but the question is: How can such good actors like Kline or Reno get in the middle of such a terrible movie? Their performances aren't bad. Reno keeps his style (the best in the whole movie) and Kline is mediocre to be honest...I liked Steve Martin but this movie was totally awful. He can do so much better.

More underrated than Open Season.

I thought that this film was a lot of fun. More fun than A Shot in the Dark (which is the only Peter Sellers Pink Panther film I've seen.) Steve Martin has done a great job in filling in Sellers' shoes. His accent is hilarious and his humor does not let me down. Not that it ever has, but it's some of his best works. A movie with a great plot and great humor is underrated if the average is where it's at. I'm just glad that this film isn't on the Bottom 100 list. I saw this film in theaters three times, every time it was at a different theater. Yes, Martin's that good in this movie. I like this as the third best of Sony's works of 2006, behind Benchwarmers and Open Season, which by the way was also underrated. Monster House and Ricky Bobby were also quite good, but not as good as the glorious remake of The Pink Panther. Good One.~Closeau

This movie is surprisingly excellent. Steve Martin portrays the character of Jacques Clouseau very well as does Beyonce with Xania This is a very interesting film but may not be appropriate for younger children THIS MOVIE WAS AWESOME! This movie will have everyone laughing their hardest. Some of the things that Inspector Jaques Clouseau does are so idiotic that it is funny! IT is sort of suspenseful, but it is more funny. You can really connect with some of the characters in this movie. Inspector Jaques is so funny that he will keep you laughing through the entire movie. Trust, me you will love it. This, in my opinion, is the best Steve Martin movie yet!

I'm not that sophisticated of a movie goer. I loved The Waterboy, never miss an episode of The Family Guy, enjoyed Wedding Crashers and especially 40-year-old Virgin. So in no way do I think that those that gave this movie a bad review are trying to seem sophisticated as has been written by positive reviewers. The opposite however, might not be the case. Meaning, while I don't think you have to be "sophisticated" to have thought this movie completely dumb and unfunny, I do have to wonder if those that loved this movie don't also laugh out loud every time Barney and friends make a rainbow.I found the humor in this movie to be so simplistic, for over half the jokes I could already predict the punchline halfway through the setup. In terms of level of humor, I felt like I was watching a bad Saved by the Bell rerun. So far as the physical comedy that made PP movies famous...physical comedy is never that complex. It can be very funny (Like in Everybody Loves Rayomond) but in this case it seems flat out uninspired. Save for the couple of scenes where Clouseau and a secretary seem to be getting caught in compromising positions, I can't say I laughed at any point in the movie. Some might say that Martin and this movie are meant to appeal to a younger, less jaded crowd, but just watch movies like The Incredibles Wallace and Gromit, or Monsters Inc. and you'll notice that you can make a kids movie without constant gags about bikers running into open car doors or old men in electric wheelchairs gone berserk. No, it's not that the people who hated this movie are trying to be or seem sophisticated (as some of the positive reviewers seem to assume). We just don't appreciate studios assuming we can't handle more original and cutting edge humor.

remakes and more remakes

What do All of the following Steve Martin films-"The Pink Panther","Cheaper By The Dozen","The Out-Of Towners","Father Of The Bride","Father's Little Dividend","Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and The Little Shop of Horrors have in common.Well aside from the fact that Steve Martin is in all of them, the other common factor is that they are all remakes of earlier films. Also,"Sergeant Bilko" is a film adaptation of an earlier television series.Has any other actor made this many remakes.I wonder if Mr.Martin realizes how many remakes he has been apart of,and if it was intentional on his part to do so,For the record,i have not seen his version of "The Pink Panther".Steve Martin is a talented guy, but i can not imagine him as this character-the role will always belong to Peter Sellers.

Haunted by better efforts.

This movie was bound to get some bad reviews and some good ones. The bad ones from those who thought the Pink Panther could not be improved and the good ones from those who thought that Mr Steve Martin's brand of comedy could fill Peter Sellers rather big shoes. So firstly does it rank along side the classic PP movies? In my opinion, not even close. The character of Closeau is torn apart and attempted to be glued together again to suit today's 'modern' setting. While Sellers' Clouseau is a man who, in order to keep his dignity intact struggles to cover up his numerous pratfalls, Martin's is nothing more than a bipolar man who can't seem to decide between being an idiot or a class detective ( would Clouseau really know obscure army information? ) Which leads us to the second question. Can it therefore rank as a comedy? Yes, but only just. If it had been Inspector Smith or Robbins, this movie could have been OK, if unoriginal ( though as a remake was done I don't think originality was primarily on the producers mind...) Martin does try hard and Kline as Dreyfuss is good, though his accent is questionable ( possibly to accentuate Clouseau's ). Jean Reno is a good, though totally unneeded sidekick but Beyonce Knowles is seemingly out of her depth ( Lord knows how... ). Some of the gags are quite clever and will leave a smile, but there are just as many that are laboured and go on for far too long. The cartoon at the start, however, is fantastic. The new Pink Panther was always going to be judged under the shadow under one of the centuries best comic actors and one of the centuries best comic directors. With that pedigree to follow it would have made sense to take ingredients from the series to create their own character. Instead, they have committed critical suicide and have left what could have been a decent comedy out with the crows.

Clouseau is back

posted on 19 Jul 2009

In this movie Clouseau(Martin) is send to investigate a robbery of priceless ring called "Pink Panther".This task was given to him by chief of police Dreyfus(Kline).Dreyfus knows that Clouseau is very clumsy and he decided to give him this case in order not to have any competition in solving the same one.But he was wrong...Steve Martin is inspector Clouseau and I think that he played well although it is obvious that no one can replace incredible Peter Sellers.Sellers is always at least two steps ahead.I liked Martin's performance more then Benigni's and I think that this film is not bad as some people say it is.Beside Martin we can watch well known actors like Kevin Kline,Jean Reno and Emily Mortimer. Also there is always good looking singer Beyonce Knowles and two very good actors Clive Owen and Jason Statham in small roles. There are some usual Clouseau's gigs but they are always funny. The whole movie is very funny and it's not boring because it gots some very good jokes(like when Clouseau is trying to say hamburger)."Pink Panther" isn't excellent film but it's not bad. It's worth of your time.Just relax and smile.I'm sure that even those who gave this movie negative grade smiled at some scenes.I smiled a lot more so my grade for movie is 6/10.

Reasonably amusing

posted on 11 Jul 2009

This is a lukewarm review, and I am bothering to write a comment only because the film is not as bad as I feared it would be. It obviously is not remotely comparable to the original, and I would recommend to any viewer that they not approach the film expecting a resurrection of Peter Sellers. I think the film is a moderately amusing Steve Martin movie (I've seen worse), and approached on those terms, it might be enjoyed. The story is vastly different from the original, so it is inaccurate to call this a "remake." The original was essentially concerned with the Phantom, a cat burglar. This film is a murder mystery. All in all, this is a pleasant diversion which has no chance of becoming a classic.

Funny but not for kids

Okay, I am an overprotective mom of a 9 year old boy but it is so hard to find anything to go see with a child this age and The Pink Panther, although rated PG, was not a good choice. For me it was fine but not for him. It is a really very funny show. My husband and I both loved it. My son loved it too, but there was some sexual, adult humor I wish I had not exposed him too. Most of it he didn't even understand. Had I known, I would not have taken him. Back to the movie. I have never been a big Steve Martin fan. I always thought his characters were just too stupid. However, Martin does a really great job in the Pink Panther. I laughed more than I have in a long time at a movie. I highly recommend it for the grown-ups, just leave the kids at home.

Hilarious Movie-Martin was Great

posted on 05 Jul 2009

I really enjoyed this movie. It is a great piece of light-hearted comedy that will give you pleasure and entertainment for some TV time home alone or with your family and friends. Though many people had mentioned that this film doesn't serve the original Peter Sellers Pink Panther movies justice, I think that this film does good with its own unique flavor. The producers added their own touch and originality to a popular franchise, and I don't think this film did the original movies injustice.Steve Martin, Kevin Kline, Beyonce Knowles and Jean Reno all did an awesome job in delivering humor, puns and slapstick comedy, with some drama and music mixed in - great for a comedic, mystery movie. The plot is pretty exciting, with Inspector Clouesau (Martin) teaming up with Ponton (Jean Reno) to solve the murder of a soccer star and the theft of the Pink Panther diamond. The music score by Christophe Beck is quite good, and it is a great treat to have Henry Mancini's Pink Panther theme incorporated in the music score. In addition, the cameo of Clive Owen as 006 adds an interesting twist to the film, and I love it when Martin says to Owen, "You're one number away from the big time." Owen spoofs James Bond 007 in this film, which is probably a homage to the upcoming 007 film starring Daniel Craig, and the Peter Sellers film, "Casino Royale," in which he spoofed James Bond.Lastly, the beautiful sceneries of Paris and New York enhance the creativity of the film. The Presidential Ball probably had the best design, in which the ball's location was decorated like a royal palace.Overall, a funny and enjoyable film, and am looking forward to its sequel.Grade A

A new dimension of Clousseasu

posted on 03 Jul 2009

I, like many people prefer the original movie of a series and this is the case with this Pink Panther remake. But, unlike most remakes, this one is faithful to the original concept in that it brings a unique kind of comedy to the screen without trying to copy the originals with Pete Sellers. Steve Martin brings a new, unique and quite funny persona to the screen; different then Sellers and not quite as good, but still very entertaining, with comedy packed throughout the whole movie. The film is as a whole, nicely put together and a fun, family experience with some memorable parts for everybody. There is some suggestive more mature humor which is quite funny and of course plenty of slapstick that everybody will enjoy. I deem it one of the best remakes of a movie; in fact it's not just a remake; it's an additional dimension that's added with Steve Martin's best role yet; I mean, I never thought Steve was very funny until he played Clousseau; Definitely watch this movie.

The Pink Panther in Bangkok

posted on 01 Jul 2009

But the big new is: The Pink Panther finally opened here in Bangkok. All 5 of us went to see it Sunday. There were demonstrations downtown so we went to a theater complex north, towards the airport. All 5 fit into a mini taxi. The trip cost $2 including tip.We were there for the one o'clock showing. The audience numbered about 80 in a theater that seated 500. That was the most people at a movie I had attended here. A Thai told me long ago that the people here don't spend much for recreation. It seems he was right. After a salute to King and country, the movie began (with Thai sub-titles).First the bad parts. The pathos interlude was just awful. Pathos might work for some comedies (but rarely), it does not work in a Clouseau movie.Clouseau was too smart by half or more. It kind of worked here but it tarnishes his image for future movies. Note to movie maker: Think dumb. The result of this is that these movie makers broke the Clouseau mold and Clouseau, as we knew him, is finished, done, over. There will never be another true Clouseau movie. Now for the good parts. It was an excellent movie on its own. I and my whole family enjoyed it. Steve Martin's accent was excellent. Even my non-English-speaking family, along with the rest of the audience, laughed at his attempts to speak English. (I was concerned about that after his atrocious effort at a New York accent in My Blue Heaven. Even Steven Seagal did a better New York accent in one of his pictures.) The gags were many and very good. I am not a laugh out loud person but I did so here. I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone by listing the funniest parts. For me, that is a worse spoiler than divulging the ending. The clue or lead that solved the case was exquisite. It came from a throw-away gag earlier and caught me completely by surprise. To surprise me in a movie plot is nearly impossible, but here they did the impossible. That one alone was worth the price of admission. I still laugh thinking about it.According to *Rotten Tomatoes* , 4 out of 5 reviewers hated this movie. That delights me. It says more about reviewers than it does about the movie. As I have said before, reviewers are a humorless lot. Most of them should say, "I am a humorless effete, I must recuse myself from reviewing this film." Here is an example from this film: Clouseau goes into a booth he has been assured is soundproof to get off a series of farts. Unfortunately the mike is on and his efforts are broadcast into a studio for all to hear. The Thai audience (and I) thought this was hilarious. The effete reviewer would have to pretend to be offended by this "fart humor." But it was funny! This bit will be laughed at all over the world, except in pre-release showings for reviewers where the critics would stare at each other in disbelief and bring perfumed hankies from their sleeves to their noses.I am delighted that this film has taken in more than 80 million dollars in the US. It may mean a new series of Pink Panther movies.Let me sum up by saying, "More, more, more."

...and it was funny nonetheless.

First off, like most of the times I go to the cinema and watch some new version of a classic I'm pretty skeptic, and I was this time, too. Well, it was just as I expected. But fascinatingly in a good way... I expected slapstick, good actors in a bad movie and mediocre use of the Mancini theme. The slapstick, there I was right, of course, the kids were having a fun time and I enjoyed it too, because it was in a nice and sweet way. The french accent added a lot of flair, too. Good actors, right again, bad movie, no. The actors played the lack of a storyline off very well and Jean Reno was especially lovable as Ponton. Bad remixes of the Mancini theme, wrong, the so called 'Malibu' remix was nice and the whole soundtrack was fitting and sounded good. While it wasn't necessarily the best movie I've ever seen, it was by far not the worst either - it was funny, the actors good and the music nice, 7 out of 10, because it was good for 1 1/2 hours of laughter.

Ze film eez secure!

When "The Pink Panther" came out earlier this year, it seems like many critics panned it, accusing it of being another ridiculous flick that uses a series of lamebrain gags as an excuse for a plot. THAT'S NOT TRUE AT ALL, YOU NUMBSKULL CRITICS!!!!!!!!! Yes, the movie's completely silly, but that's right up Steve Martin's alley. The plot has a coach getting murdered at a soccer game and his ring - featuring the title diamond - mysteriously disappearing. Who better to take the case than Insp. Jacques Clouseau? So yes, this is total slapstick, but that's what the original series was. I agree with a previous reviewer that Steve Martin wasn't trying to be Peter Sellers, but was rather putting his own spin on the role, while the movie was poking fun at French pomp. As Commissioner Dreyfus - you know, the guy who hates Clouseau? - Kevin Kline is more subdued than usual, but it's great to see what happens to him due to Clouseau's incompetence. I couldn't determine that Xania (Beyonce Knowles) was 100% necessary, but Ponton (Jean Reno) was great, and Nicole (Emily Mortimer) was...well, hubba hubba! All in all, this movie has clues about lots of things. Also starring Henry Czerny and Kristin Chenowith.
