She gets kidnapped. He gets killed. But it all ends up okay
When a young boy falls ill, his grandfather pops round to visit him. To cheer his grandson up, Grandpa has brought a storybook; The Princess Bride, a tale of the love between the beautiful Buttercup and the besotted Westley, a love cruelly interrupted by Westley's tragic apparent death at sea when seeking his fortune. Heartbroken, Buttercup has sworn never to love again, but accepts the marriage proposal of the rich and handsome Prince Humperdinck, heir to the throne of Florin; but death is no barrier to true love, and in a story filled with exotically-accented swordsmen, big-hearted giants, genius kidnappers, sadistic torturers, vile swamps, Rodents of Unusual Size, the Dread Pirate Roberts and a somewhat embittered miracle worker, the love between Westley and Buttercup twists and turns on a path filled with adventure. Will the True Love of Westley and Buttercup win the day? Will Inigo Montaya find the six-fingered man who murdered his father? Will Humperdinck's evil plans come to fruition? And, more importantly, will Grandpa be able to tell the story without any of the yucky kissing?

I love The Princess Bride!
posted on 31 Aug 2009I grew up watching the Princess Bride; I loved it before I even knew what was going on. I don't know anyone who doesn't like it, and it's definitely a classic--funny that it was rereleased less than a year after my brother unselfishly gave me his copy! The Best Movie Ever Made. END
The best all-time movie around!!!
posted on 31 Aug 2009I think that this is the best movie that I have ever seen. I remember seeing this movie when I was little and I never knew the name of it. About 5 years ago I saw it on tv and I got the book immediately. If you love the movie then you should read the book. Chapter 1 in the book is my favorite part. I think everyone that reads the book could agree with me. I think that Cary Elwes was awesome in this movie. END
No more rhymes I mean it! - Does anybody wanna Penut?
posted on 31 Aug 2009If you've really seen this movie you will understand my one line summary. If you don't understand then you need to watch this movie again. I know this movie word-for-word. I don't watch the movie, I recite it. I'd take Elwes over DiCaprio any day. This really is my favorite movie and in my opinion the Impressive Clergyman rocks! I also love Buttercup(Robin Wright) and although she is somewhat ditzy she and he(Westley) go perfectly together. After my friends and I saw the movie the cutest couple amoung our friends was always referred to as "Westley and Buttercup" they are still cute together. I can't think of anything else to say about this movie except that it is WONDERFUL, CHARMING, and AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I truly love it!
Humperdink- to the death! Westley- no! to the pain! Humperdink- i don't think I'm quite familliar with that phrase?. Westley- I'll explain, and I'll use small words so you'll be sure to understand you wart-hoged-faced-bafoon. Humperdink- I think that is the first time a man has dared insult me. Westley- It wont be the last. The first thing you lose will be your feet below the ankels then your hands at the wrist then your nose. Humperdink- then my tounge I suppose. I killed you too quickly the last time, a mistake I don't intend to duplicate tonight. Westley- Im not finished. the next thing you lose will be your left eye followed by your right. Humperdink- then my ears I understand. Lets get on with it. Westley- WRONG your ears you keep and Ill tell you why: so that every shrik of every child at your hideousness, every babe that weeps every woman that crys out "Dear God what is that THING" will echo in your perfect ears. that is what to the pain means it means I leave you in anguish wallowing in freakish misery forever.
That is Powerful stuff man! END
I LOVE IT!
posted on 31 Aug 2009I love The Princess Bride. It's one of my favorite books/movies in the entire world. It's funny, dramatic, romantic, and adventerous all at the same time. I've seen the movie so many times that I had it memorized by the time I was 7 years old. Now I'm 15 and I still love it. My dad loves it as much as I do and he's 50. That really shows that it's a book/movie for everyone of all ages. END
This book and the film wrap up my heart.
posted on 31 Aug 2009Westley makes my knees weak. He's like melting honey, and I'm sure Buttercup didn't fully realise what she had. The book and the film complement each other. While the film has the stunning visuals, the book is excellently written, and gives a much fuller explanation of character and situation backgrounds, as well as the amazing extent of the wizardry and hardships and most important, more romantic Westley(sigh)/ Buttercup scenes. For those who need more quotes because they can recite the film, and it's really good for reading aloud too. END
I love this movie!
posted on 31 Aug 2009The Princess Bride is the coolest movie! When I first saw it, I wanted to be like Westley. The last party I went to, we watched the video, and Cary Elwes is better than ever. It's the perfect story for just sitting around and getting a little romace with some very funny lines. END
The 10 is all that needs to be said about this book.
posted on 31 Aug 2009I am 12 years old, and I am an advanced and avid reader. My Literature teacher introduced me to the "Princess Bride" and I loved it. Never had I read such a funny, romantic book. Even my friends,(who usually think the books I read are boring) approved of it 100 percent.I give this book an enthuthiastic two thumbs up!
PS.I could have used more room for my one-line summary of my review. I wanted to say: The 10 is all that needs to be said about my opinion of this book. END
This movie has it all!
posted on 31 Aug 2009I discovered this movie years ago, and it's probably the one film I've watched most times over the years. It has everything, love, adventure, really bad guys, a dashing hero, a beutiful heroine (who unfortunately doesn't have a lot of brains, but I love her anyway), swordplay, humor...It's just plain amazing! See it! END
A story of unbridled enthusiasm.
posted on 31 Aug 2009This classic fairy tale springs to life in an explosion of colour and sound, thanks to director Rob Reiner's genius. The performance of the lovely Robin Wright as Princess Buttercup is rivaled only by that of Andre the Giant's portayal of the ineminable Fezzik. In addition, the hilarious hijinks of Inigo Montoya as he wastes his life in a hopeless, drunken stupor can be enjoyed by children of all ages. This movie truly has the frivolity of Weekend at Bernie's 2 coupled with the intense malaise of Shaft Goes to Africa.
Simply enchanting!
posted on 31 Aug 2009The Princess Bride is an excellent throw back to those by-gone days of gallantry and chivalry. It has it all. Fencing, fighting, giants, escapes, and true love which conquers all. Anyone with a romantic heart will find The Princess Bride a heart-warming and amusing movie.
Mere words cannot describe...
posted on 31 Aug 2009Mere words cannot describe how good this movie is! Who needs sex and guts when you've got true love? I was at first disappointed when I saw what my brother had gotten for me. "The Princess Bride?" I said distastfully, "and a princess named 'Buttercup' give me a break!" But I watched it and ended up watching it again and again! I read the book although I like the movie better. Funny, romantic, action... what more do you need?
Enchanting, mystical and pure romance!!!!!!!
posted on 31 Aug 2009What can I say about a movie that has everything? Adventure, torture, princes, princesses, giants, wars, chases, fighting, deception, miracles, witches and true love? This is the only movie I have ever seen that is actually as good as reading a book. It is so magical yet leaves room for your imagination. Who among us has not daydreamed the scene at the bottom of the hill before the fire swamp? All I can say is that this movie is wonderful for everyone because it has everything. Take anyone to see it. My Dad likes it as much as me! This is so NOT a chick flick. So, EVERYONE, WATCH AND ENJOY! END
Pure joy! To be shared with everyone you love
posted on 31 Aug 2009The first time that I saw this movie it just filled me with sheer joy. And to have gone back and seen it over a couple of dozen times (yes, I too have ruined a copy of the video by watching it again and again) really makes you appreciate how well the author and now the director have managed to show the essence of a good relationship...unconditional love. Sure, this was supposed to be a fairy tale. But I'd rather believe that it really happened. You can watch and decide for yourself! END
good old-fashion movie making
posted on 31 Aug 2009One thing I've noted through repeated viewings of this movie is how simply the director put it together (and perhaps cheaply, anyone know the budget for this flick?). If you look closely there isn't a lot of special effects that aren't just good old fashion makeup and costume. But that is the genius of the film. I believe because it was based on such a well written, character driven story (and subsequent screenplay), the director wisely chose experienced comedic actors and allowed them and the text to tell the story. Nothing fancy. I think these elements will keep our interest well into the next century. END

I LOVE ELWES MORE THAN ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
posted on 31 Aug 2009I know alot of people think that they're the #1 fan of Cary Elwes, but I really mean this! I LOVE Cary!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't even met Cary and I know he's the greatest!!!!!!!!!!!!! My favorite movie is "Princess Bride". I am going to buy it in two days. Again, I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My life long goal is to meet Cary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! END
