The adventure of a lifetime, the summer of their dreams...the dog of their nightmares
They're more than a team. They're the best buddies in the entire history of the world.
A piece of paradise a half block wide and a whole summer long.
Scotty Smalls moves to a new neighborhood with his mom and stepdad, and wants to learn to play baseball. The neighborhood baseball guru Rodriquez takes Smalls under his wing, and soon he's part of the local baseball buddies. They fall into adventures involving baseball, treehouse sleep-ins, the desirous lifeguard at the local pool, the snooty rival ball team, and the travelling fair. Beyond the fence at the back of the sandlot menaces a legendary ball-eating dog called The Beast, and the kids inevitably must deal with him.

posted on 23 Jul 2009What i like about the movie Sandlot was it always kept u on your guessing. There is this kid named Smalls. One day while they were playing baseball another kid hit a homerun. So smalls runs back and gets a ball which is signed by Babe Ruth, which he didn't know who was famous. As he gets to bat he knocks a homerun into the lot where the beast is who is mean dog. So now he has to get the baseball before he gets in big trouble. You have to watch the movie to see what happens.
You have to watch it!
posted on 08 Jul 2009The Sandlot is a great movie. It's about kids on a baseball team. Everbody thinks Scotty Smalls is a dork. But Benny becomes Scotty's friend. They all teach Scotty how to play baseball. At the end, Benny becomes a professional player in the the league. There's Mr. Mertle, who knew the Sultan of Swat, Babe Ruth, George Herman Ruth. A must watch movie.
GREAT MOVIE
posted on 08 Jun 2009I BOUGHT THIS DVD FOR MY 11 YEAR OLD GRANDSON. I JUST RETIRED FROM BEING A DAY CARE PROVIDER FOR 34 YEARS & THIS MOVIE WAS AN ALL TIME FAVORITE, NOT JUST FOR MY BOYS, BUT MY GIRLS AS WELL. AS AN ADULT IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITES ALSO. A VERY WHOLESOME, NICE CLEAN MOVIE ABOUT FRIENDS.
A great movie about friendship and baseball
posted on 04 Jun 2009This movie shows us the best part of baseball. Because it is set in the early 1960's, when the game of baseball was still dominated by the game itself and not the multi-million dollar deals, there is a feeling of peace and innocence about the game. In all, this is a great movie for anyone who loves the game of baseball for the game itself or those who remember this time.
FOR-EV-ER!
posted on 09 May 2009One of the single best baseball films of all time. Like another reviewer said, it's simple. That's what makes this movie so great. It doesn't matter if the audience is young or old, this movie has lasting quality because it speaks to the child in all of us. What young man didn't grow up loving and playing the game of Baseball? The story in this film draws the viewer in by telling the story in the perspective of the outcast character "Smalls" to teach the audience not about the game of baseball but rather the Love of Baseball. "Smalls" goes from the average outcast new kid to a member of the ragtag team by the end of the movie and all through it facing some of the worst challenges of any young boy. "Smalls" hits the first home run of his life, this then becomes the major plot point for the rest of the film. The ragtag group could simply knock on the door of the house to get their ball back but instead choose to face their bigger fear of retrieving their ball from the back yard residence of the beast, a giant dog. This film carries with it the theme every average kid growing up is also faced with that of moving to a new town, making new friends and ultimately making difficult decisions to challenge one's own worst fears and eventually become a better person for it. There's no real bad guy here just a group of young athletes who share a common ground with each other, The Sandlot. Together they face the odds, including a rival official company sponsored little league team and showing what the true meaning of Team Spirit is. "Squints" best sums up the lasting value of this film in one word, "FOREVER!"
The Sandlot is SOOOOOOO Great!!!!
posted on 03 Apr 2009I love this movie for so many reasons:
1) It's absolutely hilarious and will have you clutching the stitch in your side.
2) Benny (Mike Vitar) is SOOOOOOOOOO cute and so is the guy who played Yaya, even though he's about nine.
3) It's such a quaint, great movie that you can watch it at school so you don't get stuck watching "Barney on Parade" or something.
And many more, but I don't want to bore you with a superlong list. Just a word to the wise: BUY IT, WATCH IT, AND WATCH IT AGAIN!!!!!
Pure Americana, nostalgia, and fun- good family viewing
posted on 28 Mar 2009I remember when "The Sandlot" first came out that my sister dragged me to see it against my wishes, and, what do you know, it turned out to be one of my all time favorite movies. The setting is a happier, more innocent, pre-Woodstock America that maybe never existed except in our memories and imaginations, but that I think we all can't help longing for. The story is about the adventures of a ragtag group of kids who play baseball together in an abandoned lot. It does a great job of capturing the essence of the way kids think and see the world. Sure, it's not a genius work of art, or a deep social commentary, but it's pure fun and even inspiring in a strange, inexplicable sort of way. Aside from a little bit of mild profanity, there is nothing objectionable in it. So, if you're looking for a good, fun, family view, or just a light hearted pick me up, this one's a keeper. Everytime I see it I enjoy it as much as the first time.
A Classic!!

Great Baseball Film
posted on 03 Mar 2009The Sandlot is a great baseball film, even though throughout the film the games take place at a Sandlot and not any major league stadiums *spoiler* until the end of the film with the adult Benny playing for the LA Dodgers. This is a great family film showing the love for America's past time game of Baseball. The film is about a new kid, Scotty Smalls, who moves to a new town where he knows nobody. He follows Benny to the Sandlot, looking to fit in, of course his hopes of fitting in are quickly shattered after an embarrassing attempt to throw the ball back to the infield. However despite the team's disliking of Scotty, Benny decides to convince Scotty to come back and be apart of the team since they are a player short of having a complete team. The result, Scotty becomes more liked by the team as Benny helps him learn how to play. The rest of the film is entertainment and fun from Squints infamous drowning act to the boys first experience with Chewing Tobacco to the final showdown with "The Beast".The side story of "the beast" is good, a very interesting way of showing why the boys cannot retrieve their baseballs after each is hit into Mr.Mertle's yard. Its something that most kids face, hitting their baseballs into someone else's yard, hearing bad stories about the person that lives in that house and fearing that person. But as Mr.Mertle says in the movie "Why didn't you just knock on the door? I'da gotten it for ya." Which shows that not all people won't be mean and release "the beast" on you, some could be a jolly fun spirited person like Mr.Mertle.Oh, and you gotta have that other team that thinks they are better than your team. A showdown of a real team and the Sandlot kids ensues at one point in the movie, just to prove that the Sandlot kids can kick butt even if they are not a real team. The movie was well done, very enjoyable for people of all ages. There should never have been a sequel however fans of this movie are let down. I'd recommend watching this one only and pretend the sequel does not exist cause the sequel is pretty much a remake of this one.
A great Comedy movie
posted on 01 Mar 2009I watched this movie from Disney and I love it. It's really funny and I like it so much. I like it when the try to get the ball back signed by Bale Ruth. You know, when the beast keeps getting the ball back. :)
Also, it's funny when the kid with the glasses is in love with
Wendy Peppercorn and portends to drown.
It's a very good movie.
excellent

The Sandlot is a True Classic!
posted on 02 Feb 2009I can't believe how much I love this movie! I mean when I first heard about it, I thought it's gonna be just another boring movie, but I was wrong. This movie made me feel like I'm living in the 60's and I'm part of the cast. I really enjoyed this movie so much, and please take my advice and buy this film because you will enjoy it as much as I did. If you love baseball, or if you want to be taken back to the 60's then buy this film. 5 stars all the way!
BEST BASEBALL MOVIE!! BY THE WAY.. GO YANKEES!
posted on 21 Jan 2009I love "The Sandlot"! It is such a good movie. I can watch it over and over again. And that kid who plays Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hot, it's not even funny. If you're a girl who likes fine guys, like Benny in he movie (b/c nobody else is fine in the movie), and baseball, buy it and buy it NOW! My fave part is when Benny is teaching Smalls how to catch and throw b/c I'm a softball player and whenever I go to catch or throw the ball, I remember the advice Benny tells Smalls. And by the way, did I mention that the YANKEES RULE?
Boys, Baseball, Beauty
posted on 06 Jan 2009There really is no plot, yet you don't care. There's no real subtext to the entire thing, but that doesn't matter. The actors are all kids and they play baseball...and it's SO SIMPLE.
One of those little films that walked quietly into theaters in 1993 and left just as quietly with little fanfare(which is probably why Fox is hesitant on releasing a DVD) happens to be one of the greatest sleepers of all-time. This movie is good, so sweetly and innocently GOOD, that you don't care if the obnoxious happens or that a main plot-point happens to be the kids retrieving a prize/signed baseball(by Babe Ruth of all players) from the jaws of a dog-beast-monster-thing.
No, if there was something that James Earl Jones was right about in FIELD OF DREAMS(and he's in here too as a modern-day Boo Radley), it was that baseball brings us back to the times when we were young and apathetic to the world around us. The same applies here.
This film will make you forget about your problems and redirect your focus on your youth and the times you had fun with your best friends.
No matter if those times were spent on a surburban street where the foul poles were really parallel phone poles on either sides of the street or you sat on the porch watching us while drinking lemonade and listening to Ray Charles, those are the good times we remember...
Take a look for yourself...

A great baseball flick for people of all ages to enjoy.
posted on 22 Dec 2008I enjoyed this movie greatly. I am a fan of baseball and I loved this movie. It's about a group of neighborhood boys in the 1960's who enjoy playing baseball all day long. Scotty Smalls moves into the neighborhood and doesn't know how to play, but he wants to learn and to make friends. Benny teaches him and they all become good friends. Characters such as Squints and Ham make two more good reasons to see this great film. It is wonderful film that teaches a lesson as well as a chunk of American history as well.

It teaches values about friendship, the art of baseball, and is still very entertaining and humorous (even if you aren't a sports nut). So, if you're a person who really likes good, humorous, and quality movies, this is an awesome movie to own.

The Sandlot
posted on 30 Aug 2009The main character's name was not Steve... if you have seen this movie more than once, or for more than 30 minutes, you'd realize the protagonist's name was Scotty Smalls. This movie is indeed a classic, a timeless piece accessible by all. If you love or have ever had a deep passion for baseball, this movie will move you like no other film has ever moved you before. I like to have a few too many beers and watch it through myself... the ending scene where the narrator (Scotty Smalls) tells the stories of how everyone eventually left the sandlot, and town for that matter, brings me to tears. One of the greatest movies of our era and a sure classic for not only us, but our kids as well.
