To be expected from a sequel

Well, what a movie, not that great. I think they make movies like those over the top, they start with simple ideas and then bombard the audience with alot of visual effects and no plot.I saw very little character development. It just seems to me that movie makers want to compete on who can make the most hyper movie. Visual effects are great but when it detracts from the message of the over all movie it is just plain silly. However, the scene where they give the teachers all there old favorite games and things it was really fun, those are what make movies a little more magical is to do unexspected things without the hyperness. There were some clever funny parts but the end with the battle and the wedding were too much. Over all it is a great movie to watch as a family. The best part about the movies is that it is clean and it good for everyone.

It's the Mrs. Clause!

[IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY SEEN THIS MOVIE, READ NO FURTHER. IT'S GOT SPOILERS!!!] It's been 8 years since Scott Calvin was transformed into Santa Claus. The elves at the North Pole think he's the best Santa yet. He's always offering great advice and played a mean football game. The elves were busy making toys. Christmas was drawing nearer, however Number 1 Elf Bernard and Number 2 elf Curtis, had some bad news to give Scott but just couldn't find the right moment. They eventually tell him. His son, Charlie, has wound up on this year's naughty list. And as if that wasn't bad enough, Scott notices he's beginning to lose weight and his beard is shrinking. That was more bad news Bernard and Curtis had to deliver: apparently when Scott put on the suit and found the card, there was a tiny detail he didn't know about: he had to get married! It's the Mrs. Clause! Charlie Calvin was in trouble at school. He was caught defacing school property. He sprayed pro-Christmas messages around which really irked off Principal Carol Newman; Scott had to go and deal with Charlie but somebody had to stay and run the North Pole so Curtis makes a toy clone of Santa. He's his height, weight, virtually identical, except his face and beard were plastic and rubber, other than that he was a dead ringer. Scott and Comet took off for home while Bernard and Curtis got the new Santa settled. Scott met up with Neil and Laura again and was displeased with Charlie. But, this was also a good opportunity to find a woman friend. His first date didn't go too well. Back at the North Pole, the replacement Santa began to adjust more and more. He read the rule book cover to cover and has his own variations on naughty and nice. He rules out that all the children of the world were naughty and deserved coal for Christmas so he devised an army of seven foot tall toy soldiers and became an insane supreme dictator. He forced the elves to stop construction on toys and commince on coal; Scott becomes attracted to Principal Newman and accompanies her to a school meeting which was boring until Scott played Secret Santa and gave them old childhood toys. He later told Carol Newman that he was Santa and she didn't believe him. And as if that wasn't bad enough, Scott was out of magic and got word from Curtis that the new Santa had gone berserk. So with a little help from the tooth fairy, Scott returns to the North Pole and races to stop the evil Santa from delivering coal all over the world. Finally, he's stopped and cut down to size. Carol and Charlie show up. Scott would have to get married in a few minutes or all hope of Christmas would be destroyed forever. Scott and Carol were married, then Scott hopped in his sleigh and took off. Very good movie. Practically better than the first! Tim Allen was very good, just like he was in the first Santa Clause. Judge Reinhold, Wendy Crewson, David Krumholtz, and Eric Lloyd reprise their roles as well. Also, watch for Peter Boyle, who played Scott's boss in the first Santa Clause, who plays Father Time in this one! So if you haven't already gone to see it, see The Santa Clause 2! Can we expect a Santa Clause 3? Knowing Disney, probably, but what could it possibly be about? Anyway, this was a great movie! Perfect for the whole family! Christmas is here again!-

Good but not as good as the first one!

The Santa Clause 2 is a good film but it's not as good as the first one. Scott Calvin has been Santa Clause for the past 8 years. The elves consider him the best Santa they ever had. But he finds out he's losing weight and his beard is shrinking. The elves had some bad news to deliver Scott his son Charlie wound up on the naughty list. He was caught tagging School property. including the gymnasium and lockers. The lockers said Trim A Tree Go To Jail. But when Scott read the card he forgot one thing he had to get married. But in this one Charlie has a cousin named Lucy. Charlie's punishment was that he had to clean every locker for tagging them every day for a week. But Charlie is shocked to discover that his dad is flirting with principal Newman. The evil Santa planned to deliver coal all over the world. So at the end Scott and Carol "Principal Newman" we're married. 8/10

This Film's as Good as the Original.

The Santa Clause" is a holiday movie that my family has watched and loved multiple times every year. It really captured the spirit of the day in a way that EVERYONE can appreciate. "The Santa Clause 2" was something I didn't bother to see in theaters, because it's been my experience that Disney can't do sequels right. Based on past failures, this could have truly been a terrible film. Luckily, I heard from a friend who became absolutely obsessed with it and counted down the days to its DVD release. She said it was not only, in her opinion, slightly better than the first, but that it was a generally wonderful and very funny movie. Sufficiently persuaded to purchase the DVD, I now can honestly say that I'm glad I did. In this movie, the entire original cast returns for a story that's actually quite clever for a "part II." Colorful and fun from beginning to end, the humor is genuine, and not the 'corny' kind you might expect. Actually, my favorite line is when the "number two elf," Curtis, says, "The Desantafication process has begun!" He shouts it so loudly and rapidly it's scary--but mad humorous. If you don't already know the story, here it is in a nutshell: Scott needs a wife in order to remain Santa forever; the "Mrs. Clause." His son Charlie is falling into 'bad behavior' because he feels neglected and upset that he must keep his father's secret, when his dad's got the coolest job of all. While Scott is courting the school principal using magic, back at the North Pole, chaos is ensuing as the toy santa goes awry and develops a persona not unlike Hitler. He whips the elves into long, miserable work hours and is just basically cruel, screwing up the entire process of Christmas by deciding that most kids are naughty and they all deserve only coal. The reindeer, Scott's ex-wife and Neil, the hilarious Council of Legendary Figures, etc., all combine to make a truly satisfying movie that is a very, very worthy successor to "The Santa Clause." I am pleased to say, a longtime fan of the original was not disappointed at all. (Warning: The most irritating character by far is Molly Shannon's small role of Tracy, Scott's first dismal attempt at finding a Mrs. Clause. Tracy has an unhealthy obsession with country music and bursts into a highly embarrassing singing-and-dancing performance of a Shania Twain song with lyrics twisted to be about Christmas--UNDER THE WATCH OF EVERYONE IN A PUBLIC RESTAURANT WITHIN FIVE MINUTES OF THE START OF A FIRST DATE. Something's wrong with this woman. She's one of those, "I-am-not-with-her, I've-never-seen-her-before-in-my-life" kind of humiliating freaks of nature whom you'd NEVER wanna be caught dead with in public. The scene is funny--still, I dunno about anyone else, but I felt really awful for Scott. I mean, he responded the way any normal red-blooded American would, and then Tracy storms out on him for not "supporting her ambition" when she "put herself out there" which she claims was "not an easy thing to do.") Bernard has a big role, and is even more likable in this one; he doesn't like Curtis much, but he's used to having Scott as Santa. "Chet" is the new, inexperienced reindeer-in-training who is completely horrible at guiding a sleigh--or just flying, for that matter. The Tooth Fairy, who wants to change his name to Tooth Man, Tooth Guy, Molinator, Tooth, Plaque Man, Captain Floss, or as I recall, Roy, is hysterical. "No kid will leave a tooth under their pillow for some guy named Roy," claims Cupid. Eh heh...it's probably true. Also, BE SURE TO WATCH THE SPECIAL FEATURES!! They're excellent. The interview with the Legendary Figures is hilarious. Gotta love Cupid. "Deleted scenes" & "gag reel" are tons of fun. Watch the movie with the audio commentary from Micheal Lembeck as well as the hysterically funny ten-minute "Exploring the North Pole w/ Curtis." These are too much fun & they give greater insight into the rivalry betwixt Curtis and Bernard. Banana, anyone?! So on the whole, it's a great film. For everybody. I'd see it if I were you. Terrific holiday movie. A new tradition will be watching the first followed by the second each year.

I wouldn't like a three-quel.
The second one?
I'd give it a 10/10. Tim Allen was cool. The acting was great. I recommend it. And I can't wait for the DVD. Maybe it'll have 2 discs. Cool!

Great!!!! Best Movie EVER!!!!!!!!!!

Call me anything you want but this is probably my favorite movie!! I have no clue why!! I've only seen it once, but something about it is uplifting, cheery, fun, cheesy (but in a tolerable way). If you don't believe me, just try it!

It seems that this movie didn't have the same feel the original captured. The time between the release of the sequel maybe the biggest factor. The movie really reminded me of the original christmas episode of futurama. They left out some very important things the original had. The whole james bondish thing with upgrades to the sleigh and suit was a very original idea that was left out of this movie and kind of left me disappointed. I also may have been angered by the appearance of Spencer Breslin to me he seems to be the most annoying kid actor of this time. The original movie was released in 1994 eight years is a little long for a sequel. Many of the younger viewers or people that haven't seen the original will appreciate what this movie has but personally it lacks the imagination of the first. I give it a 2 out of 5 stars.

Return of the Kringle

posted on 16 May 2009

Well, folks, he's back: Tim Allen returns as Scott Calvin in Disney's The Santa
Clause 2. And already some folks have weighed in on the film, some dismissing
it as not worthy of the original, others simply sitting back and having fun. The
idea of Santa having to get married lest he be forced to relinquish his duties is a
chilling prospect, even for a professional believer in Santa, which I am. But there
are several roads that need to be traveled to pursue the truth about this film. The central focus is Charlie Calvin, Scott's son, played by a now-teenaged Eric
Lloyd. In the story, Charlie is put out because the new high school principal
won't let the school have Christmas decorations. Taking revenge, and mostlybecause he too believes in Santa -- who happens to be his own dad --- Charlie
begins writing pro-Santa graffitti on the school walls. Now, I don't think for one
minute that pro-Santa graffitti (even of a non-threatening kind) will remind one of
the Gerald Paulsen episode of Dragnet, but at least it's enough to get himsuspended. Now Santa must deliberately return to his Scott Calvin phase totake a hand in the situation, as well as find a Mrs. Claus before the magic of the
season is extinguished.Back at the North Pole, other troubles brew when the duplicate Santa Scott has
left behind decides to attempt a hostile takeover bid, further complicatingmatters for our hero. How, then, will Scott be able to set stuff right this time? Ah!
Well, you'll just need to see the film to find out. But before you do, I have to urge
you to ignore the critics and listen to your own inner child, he or she who once
grew up with Santa. I say this because, judging by the first few reviews that have
come in, the vitriol tossed at this picture has come from several cynical,hard-nosed, beetle-headed critics who wouldn't know the magic of Santa if it hit
them in the face!I sincerely believe that, regardless of budget or size or scope, the film history of
Santa Claus needs proper assessment, examination and expansion. Prior to theoriginal "The Santa Clause," filmed by Disney 8 years before, Alexander andIlya Salkind led the way with "Santa Claus: The Movie," with Dudley Moore and
John Lithgow --- and the legend behind that film is only coming to proper light.
Even then, 1985, that film was met with cynical criticism, much of it in thenegative. Almost 20 years later, "Santa Claus: The Movie" is being enjoyed by a
new generation of believers.I hope that future historians of Santa's movieresume will treat Disney's "The Santa Clause 2" with similar admiration.

Santa Clause 2 is a worthy sequel to the original one. Tim Allen has found his nitch with Santa Clause and the wonderful addition of Elizabeth Mitchell makes this movie an entertaining, heart warming Christmas movie. Why Hollywood is not using Ms. Mitchell more is a mystery. Tim Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell have a natural chemistry and it isn't a forced romance on screen. Tim Allen is naturally funny but he seems more comfortable in the Santa Suit this time. There were moments where my children did become restless but all in all I would have to give this movie two thumbs up and I would give it 4 out of 5 stars.

cute, about what you would expect.

This is a cute, feel-good family type movie. It doesn't have any surprises, it doesn't try to make you think, you just go laugh at the cute little reindeer named Chet, who sounds suspiciously like Timmy on South Park, and then forget about it the next day. What more could you ask for in a modern holiday movie?

completely missable

posted on 11 Feb 2009

the premise of this family christmas 'comedy' is that Santa Claus (Tim Allen) must find a woman who is willing to be Mrs. Claus. It is fairly predictable and almost insulting to watch. which in my opinion makes it right on par with "The Santa Clause". (or anything else Tim Allen has done for that matter.)
Consider some of the examples of the type of humor contained in the movie 1)a reindeer who farts after eating too much and 2) the ever classic standby: running into stuff while flying.Pardon me if i don't laugh but this is one movie worth passing up.for a family movie it is average (entertaining for kids and mildly amusing at best for adults) but as a movie it is pretty bad. i gave this one a 3 out of 10.

Brand new bag, not same old story.

Saw the first one as a child, saw the second one as an adult. Just so I don't spoil the magic, I will say only the following: Tim Allen was excellent as Santa... he made me feel like I was ten again. The character Bernard was just as bossy as I remembered from the first film, but the quips he fires off were in shorter supply. I missed the sarcastic humor I associate with him. Charlie is growing up, but in the best way possible.
He had some touching lines near the end to a new character-- I won't ruin the surprise of whom.Yes, there was an inappropriate flatulence joke in the movie, but all in all that was the only concession to bathroom humor in an otherwise classy family comedy. Yes, there were plot holes, some of which were large enough to drive a sleigh through, but after eight years and five writers, the end product was satisfactory. On its own: 10/10 for combined effort and execution. As a sequel: 8/10.
Good character continuity, interesting new spin. I'm happy to say I didn't spot large amounts of rehash.Recommended for: families with small children and college students old enough to remember the first "Clause" and just need to de-stress around midterms or finals.

A worthwhile sequel

The Santa Clause 2: The Mrs. Clause carries on a few years after the original movie, when a teenage Charlie (son of Scott Calvin aka Santa Clause) is having a lot of behavioral issues at school and home and ends up on the "Naughty List" and Santa is informed of the contractual need (hence the play on "Clause" again in the title) to get a wife. When trying to deal with his son, Santa falls for Charlie's principal and the attempt at romance is on. Either he gets married or Christmas is doomed as Scott undergoes a "de-Santification" process. So he creates a duplicate robot Santa to take his place while he deals with the search for a wife and to take care of his son. Unfortunately, the duplicate turns out to be a tyrant who may cause a Christmas disaster no matter whether the real Santa gets a wife or not. This was a worthy sequel to the first movie, although I didn't find it quite as good. It still had a lot of humor, a fun story with a pace that carried it along fast enough that it doesn't get boring. There are some interesting new characters introduced (in the form of the Council of Legendary Figures), and there is a nice message of family togetherness that is appropriate for the Christmas season.Again, this is no classic, but it is worth a watch following an annual viewing of the original Santa Clause, Lots of fun, entertaining and suitable for the entire family.

This film was a great surprise. Just as good as the first film, possibly even better in some aspects. Tim Allen fits into the role again nicely and the effects are still first rate, as well as the story. 8/10

This is a great family film/clean fun. Good to see with others. Fun to watch with children or as an adult. The focus of the film(plot) is clear. The characters/actors were well chosen. It wasn't too long, and it kept ones suspense. This is the type of film, I feel, that helps people better appreciate the holiday season. The film had no explicit scenes, so it could be watched with children. The focus of the film was to make one laugh and to apply the romantic need for togetherness. Excellently done...

Shipshape if sugary seasonal sequel

posted on 17 Dec 2008

A film sufficiently varied, witty and well-made to fill out a bare festive holiday afternoon. Tim Allen reprises his Santa - just the right, warm side of genial - this time in search of a wife to retain his magic Xmas touch. It's the Santa Claus, geddit? Elizabeth Mitchell ends up as the unlikely object of his affections, a sort of cutesy Rene Russo. It really is a kids' B (for bored) movie so there's a fair bit of slapstick, although credit for not overdoing this. One of the ways in which this is subsumed is in the cunning idea of having kids as elves. Even Santas foremen straddle adolescence: David Krumholtz and Spencer Breslin excel here, being both watchable and credible. Though it must be said you will have suspended most critical faculties, not least belief, before kicking back with the mince pies. 3/10

Just in time for Christmas! Not another Christmas review! Oh no!

posted on 17 Dec 2008

It's Christmas in a few days so I figured it was time for a Christmas review. Tim Allen is that kind of Christmas guy, that kind of guy who gets himself into these Christmas (no I won't say the so-called "holiday season", it's Christmas season) movies. When he started with The Santa Clause, it was a brilliant and heart warming holiday film. This unneeded sequel then came along in the Christmas of 2002. I was smart enough to wait for its release on DVD because man was this a stinker. The jokes are kid-licious and horrible. You don't laugh at the jokes, you laugh at the movie and how pathetic it is. I suggest Tim Allen to not pick up another Christmas script because he is reflected this holiday season too. Christmas with the Kranks may be doing all right at the Box Office but critics are absolutely despising the movie. My real suggestion to Mr. Tim Allen is to not pick up a script at all unless it's good. Just look at Joe Somebody, Christmas with the Kranks, and this one.Santa Clause 2 is pretty self-explanatory. Santa Clause is told by his elves that he can't keep his job of the jolly, big man unless he gets married before he loses all of his "Santa" power. This short elf then creates a watch for him to tell him how much magic he has left. Oh how convenient. Then they clone Santa and he's in charge of Christmas until the real Santa comes back to the North Pole after he gets married. It's such a hard, mesmerizing plot for us to welcome into our house and to show to our whole family (major sarcasm). One thing I liked about this movie was that they kept the same kid from the first. However you wish things would happen to him like get away with his pranks or screw over the plot all together. Then when Santa Claus finally gets his woman, you want some action but somehow, just somehow, it gets interrupted.Overall, Santa Clause 2 is one example of a perfect sequel that should have never been made. Not only is it that, but it's one of those sequels that just ruins the first. One really bad Christmas movie but I missed Christmas with the Kranks so I don't know... However, one thing that makes this film better than Kranks is the fact that it doesn't sink to the stereotype of having a world in which everyone over-obsesses with the perfection of Christmas... Whoa, I know that and I didn't even see Christmas with the Kranks yet. Well what I'm trying to say is Santa Clause 2 does give you somewhat of a holiday cheer to you but the plot, acting, direction, and poor script ruins it. It's quite sad actually. Anyway's Merry Christmas. My Rating: 3/10Eliason A.

Unnecessary sequel to a decent flick.

The first Santa Clause was a decent holiday movie. The second is just over kill with a story that does not even try to be different. Tim Allen is good and goofy at the same time but this movie really did not have been made. They is really no reason for it.

good ending to a horrible beginning

Possibly the worst first 30 minutes to any movie that I watched all the way thru. It was long, boring, and not the least funny. Finally the movie took off and the last hour or so was very good, just a tad below the first one. Good santa vs. bad santa was funny, good reindeer chase scene. Mrs. clause, very hot.

Very Entertaining!
