I love horror movies i do but the older i get the more i find it easy to critisize their every move. You eventually get tired of "No you idiot run out the door not up the stairs".But this is one of the truly spin chilling, keep you to interested to see whats stupid horror movies.I did not like the first one but i saw it when i was 14,Im 19 now.I am going to try to rent it again but everypalace has jacked up the price since the realease of the remake. And even blockbuster(at least mine) only has the new special edition of the old one wich means u have to pay for it like its a new realease and not an old film.Ok so thats my opion on everyones greed lol. Some good points about this movie
-it made the whole story alot more real, you final understand this is real this happend to some poor people
-The real leatherface footage leaves u in awe only adding more to the feeling that hes out their somewhere
-The dates and things make you count and realize that this guy might be alive
-Finding out at the end he was never caught makes you look over your shoulders for weeks
-It shows alot more of what the family and friends had to dow with this horrible story
With the old one i was just so bored i didnt get the whole story with this one i understood it and i didnt dare miss a second!.
And yes it is a good date movie
Its a good movie to buy and cudddle up on the couch with the lights out
casting-not everyone was perfect but i think jessica biel did a good job in this and its probably the best thing shes ever done.
But i really think its an amazing movie with deep phycological impact, ; )

Just when you thought the original was disturbing, gross, disgusting, and frightening, now comes the updated version, "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," which knows no limits when it comes to gore and intensely terrifying moments. Is it a remake? Not necessarily. However, it is more like a movie that pays tribute to a great classic by offering its own vision of a well-known nightmare of limbs and guts.

While characters and some of the story has changed, the deranged and murderous plot remains the same. An unspeakable turn of events (I will not give away how it all starts, as it is very different from the original) lands a group of teens in a nightmarish maze that throws a mutilated man who wields a giant chainsaw in their path. Not to mention the "crazy" family that turns out to be just as vicious and murderous. For these teens, a safe place is nowhere in their short and painful future.

As I said in the beginning, this is not a remake. Nor is this a sequel. So what is it? Well, I like to think of it as an "updated" version of the original--in fact, I consider it more of a tribute to the classic that redefined the horror genera as we know it. This movie, while much more darker, sinister, and sicker, is not trying to live up to the original, nor is it trying to outdo it. I had to smile, as this was not a step-by-step remake, such as the newer "Psycho" was. There are new elements, characters, and plot twists thrown into the mix. And to be honest... it works.

I must confess, I had an unquestionably hard time trying to watch this movie. There were a bunch of moments that made me want to shut it off, and yet--I continued to watch the debauchery. There is a sick and twisted fascination that this movie exploits from us, knowing that we're going continue to watch no matter what. The original was choppy and had a very low-budget, so while it was undeniably violent and brutal it wasn't as hard to take. This new version is in no way a Grade-B movie. It's extremely realistic in its absolute brutality. This shouldn't even be considered as a choice for people who have a hard time watching violence, gore and torture. This movie takes it to the limit and is unapologetic.

Even though this was a hard movie to watch, I have to confess that I liked it. It is great to finally see a horror movie that isn't overly goofy. This is a straight-up and serious slasher movie that does what it's supposed to do--TERRIFY US. An element sadly forgotten by most of the horror flops that come out now. Maybe they can take a page from this movie and perhaps learn something. The acting is surprisingly good, the script is quite believable and is rarely cheesy or lame, and the film looks fantastic. Not a bad job for director Marcus Nispel.

This 2-Disc special edition (a single disc version is also available for those who aren't giant fans of the movie) has some tasty extras. As I said, the film looks and sounds great. You even have the choice of watching it in DTS if your little heart desires to do so. Special features include documentaries, deleted scenes, commentary, trailers, TV spots and a whole lot more. The star of the special features is an exclusive documentary on the notorious killer, Ed Gein, who inspired the original film. It's a really interesting feature and is the main reason to purchase this edition of the movie. The behind-the-scenes documentary (over an hour long) is also worth the money, as well.

"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is an unforgiving bloodbath that sends you to the butcher's with bloody front-row seats. It's not better than the original, and it is not trying to be. This film is more of a tribute to an undeniable classic. It's an entertaining new vision and interpretation of the original. If you're looking for a straight-up horror movie that isn't trying to be cutesy or is striving for pop status, then this is the one for you. Just remember one thing... once you open the door, there's no going back. A disturbing, and yet involving horror film that will stay in your head for days. -Michael Crane

After viewing this movie for the first time, I realized something, there are some sick people in this world. It would take a truly sick and twisted mind to come up with this stuff. I must give the original honors to Tobe Hooper, the director of the original. However, alot of the remake was new ideas. The director of this movie did a wonderful job setting up a plot that stuck close to the original for the hardcore fans, but also had the courage to deviate a little bit coming up with new ideas to spice up the movie. For example, at one point a woman shoots herself in the head and the sick minds behind the movie decided to pull the camera through the bullet hole that was created. Its hard to explain here but it is one of the coolest looking shots i've ever seen. Also, the story was fantastic. It was by far one of the scariest movies I have ever seen, and I've seen alot. It starts the suspense and thrills within the first five minutes and it doesn't let up until the credits roll. At which point you are shaking and jumping at every little noise you hear. I thought the acting was great and Jessica Biel never looked better. This has every element a horror movie should and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good scare. One more thing...if you aren't good with horror movies and/or scare easy, you might wanna stay clear of this because it will haunt you for weeks.

Better than Expected

I saw a sneak preview tonight and was surprised at how great the movie turned out--I'm a big fan of the original, and while I don't mind remakes, I don't like one that is just a retread of the original with a new cast. This film stands on its own, and it only a bare bones remake, much like Ocean's 11 did not resemble the original all that much. And best of all, it made me jump several times--always the mark of a great horror film. And Jessica Biel looking smoking hot didn't hurt matters either.

Why...WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the love of God why would anyone want to touch the masterpiece's that it "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". I loved the original and i watch it it least 3 times a month. To its credit the remake wasn't as bad or insulting as the "Dawn of the Dead" remake but there was no reason for any one to want to change the original. The good things...the chainsawed leg and the rock salt, the meat hook. Now the bad um...the cast. I didn't like anyone except the guy who played Letherface (at least he did it with a little passion) and R. Lee Hermy. But the thing that really took away from this movie was the unmasking Scan. Do you mean to tell me that Leatherface has no nose thats it...come on. It was at that time a really wanter to see what the guys from "Leatherface: the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3" where going to do with their unmasking+ Leahterface being a pussy didn't improve the movie.

Much better than the 1970's version

When i watched the 1970's version of texas chainsaw massacre, I was very dissapointed because I heard it was insanely bloody, scary, and gorey. I disagreed 100 percent. If they were referring to the new one, I would have agreed 100 percent. Not too much humor for a horror movie. My idea of the perfect horror movie is Resident Evil 2. Enought humor, gore, everything, but thats not the point. Point is, this was a great movie. Much better than the 70's version, more gore, blood, and scarier. What makes it even cooler is that this movie was based on similar events.

If I could have given this movie a zero, I would have. It was just stupid. I mean, I'm at a loss of words....for me that's rare, as to just how poorly made this seemingly low budget movie is. DON'T waste your time or money.

Sorry excuse for a movie

This movie was very very stupid I didn't like it one bit. the only good part was when the chick ran over the cop like 3 times. the effects were kinda cool but then the people live for like hours with missing body parts they would have bled out in real life. Very dumb don't waste money on it like I did

Great Comeback for a Hurting Genre!

I originally had my doubts for this one. As of late, horror movies have become mediocre gore fests with little suspense. The genre has practically formed a mold for itself. Especially with the release of FREDDY VS. JASON and JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 back in August, and the horribly disappointing COLD CREEK MANOR in Sept, knowing that TCM was next, I wasn't so sure what to expect.Another fact that occured to me that raised even more doubts was the fact that the original TCM, while scary and disturbing in its own right, was a very simple story. Not much to expand off of, or at least not in a direction that would not upset fans of the original. While I had my doubts, I had to see what the filmakers came up with, and much to my surprise they did a darn good job. Hands down, this has to be one of the best horror flicks to come around in a long time...with the exception of THE RING (which might I add shared its creepy kid with MASSACRE). This movie is so much fun to watch. Unlike most horror movies, the characters are dimensional, and the acting is pretty good, not to over or under played.Although from the start we can pick out who is going to die and who is going to live, this film carries a lot of suspense with it. It is one of the first in a long while where the audience in unison screams. Now for those who complain that Leatherface has been too much updated and the fact that this movie exposes his face and gives him a skin disease, losen your panties. This remake took some holes that were not filled in the first one (such as why Leatherface is the way he is) and used them to their advantage. The kill/chase scenes are great and you just do not want to close your eyes.I was ultimately pleasantly surprised, and praise the filmakers for actually producing a remake with character, and not just a cheap scam for money.
Truly a thought out and wonderfully put together flick, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE allowed me to have more fun in a movie than I had had in a long time, and thus rates a 8/10.

Gore Factor High and Great New Set of Actors

A dark story of the lines and wrinkles on the face of Ed Gein. The Feared man who is still being talked about today. The Crimes he portrayed are still the most bizarre crimes which will have sparked the movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Jessica Biel played a terrific part as she was the Cowgirl who got thrown around most of the movie and put to levels of fear no one could create except for Leatherface himself. Andy Vogel played a role that was hard as you see him massacred on a meat hook with his torn up leg dangling. He played a very cocky character in the movie but still had a great look for the horror film. The Movie itself was dark and captured Fear in the beginning and especially the ending. The Old Version of TCM is still one of those shocking movies you see and really can enjoy Tobe Hoper for the work he did in the film. I think the new version tried to capture more of the fear that Leatherface was trying to portray. The old version was just to shock most of the fans. I wasn't shocked as much as I saw the fear in the eyes of the victims and they whole psychological mind games that you play trying to figure out why leatherface would do these things. The Soundtrack is also a great soundtrack by Steve Jablonsky... Leatherface is the first track which is a great theme for the movie... And the song that is in the Trailer Cocteau Twins-Song to the Siren is also a great song that is different for the mood of the movie... The movie overall is still one of my favorite horror movies and I hope they come out with more!

A NEW CULT CLASSIC

When i first heard about new line cenima making a remake to TCM, i wasn't very sure what to think....i mean, the first was an incredible film, and the two sequels that followed...well, lets just say they lacked. Then was the awfal, so called remake Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation...ukk....

It was when i first saw the trailer for this film did i realize that this was sure to be a good movie, and boy was right. Everything about this film great, and there was great improvments that the orginal lacked.

The casting was very good, the acting was great. The visual aspect of the film was awasome....Michael Bay, I salute you to a job well done.

First of all: this is NOT a true story. "Based On" is about as stretched as you can get. It makes for a nice ad campaign, but too many people have no idea what they're talking about.

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and PSYCHO are both based on the same case: Ed Gein, a mild-mannered maniac in Wisconsin who dug up bodies and made skin suits out of them. He also did some creative things with body parts and his furniture. They found an old woman hung upside down and draining into a bucket in his barn (while he was having dinner with a family down the road!). Not in Texas, no superhot girls like Jessica Beil bouncing around in terror, no conspiracy of backroad inbreds.

I always liked the original. Something about the low-budget look gave it a gruesome authenticity. The claustrophobic madness of that goofy family in the original also really works.

This new version doesn't expand on anything from the original and, although slickly produced, it could have been any of the forgettable "sequels" that have come out over the years. CHAINSAW basically becomes just another slasher flick. I did like that they got John LaRoquette to do the lead-in narration--as he did in the original, but that's about it. R. Lee Ermey's always fun.
I thought having Jessica Beil dispatch one of her friends since he'd been relieved of a limb was a weird choice (I would've like that character better if he'd wanted to use his final breaths fighting back against the hillbilly cannibals), even as I kept getting hit over the head with a Meat Is Murder subtext. At least the movie didn't end with "One Tin Soldier" or some lame anti-meat folk song.

I wanted to like it, but it's just another modern studio horror movie: no discernible artist voice/value, corporate product, etc.

Very bold and intense horror and a great DVD

While I fully appreciate and respect the tastes of others, let me just say I have no idea why the original is held in such high regard. It was truly one of the worst films I have ever seen. Nothing happened in it. There was ZERO suspense or excitement, the dialogue was barely audible and it felt like another half of it was missing. I hated it and I am so puzzled why so many people love that film.

Granted, back in 1973 it may have been easier to scare audiences and the low-budget nature of the original may have contributed to the ugly look of the film but I see no reason to credit the original director (Tobe Hooper) with any of the film's so-called qualities. The man's career fell flat on it's face soon after and I think his most famous movie was something of a fluke. It would not have succeeded today. Obviously, as I just said, audiences today are exposed to a larger number of movies and can choose and discriminate more easily. There are some who will say the only people who can enjoy this will be degenerate teenagers who don't know what real horror is. And some who will call the film to glossy. But none of this I find fair criticism.

I am, in no way, a fan of Michael Bay or any of his movies. But he had the right idea in keeping the budget very low for this movie ($8 million) and seems to be more skilled in packaging and producing than directing. The film is not 'glossy' or 'clean'. The equipment use to make the film is more sophisticated than that on the original but this is not 'The Rock' or 'Armageddon' and there are no hundred-shots-in-a-second and flashy camera tricks. They all tried their best to pull of a nervous, raw horror film that stands on it's own and I think they have.

This was sooooooo much better than the first. The characters actually HAVE character this time. I got on their side, I got involved in the action (yes, there is action this time, and a LOT of it) and the acting was done well. Plus Jessica Biel is VERY hot.

So many new dimensions and situations occur is this remake that elevates to something a zillion times what the original was. Don't automatically think that because Michael Bay is the producer that it's going to be some kind of sanitised and fashion-shoot Hollywood production. It is still a very edgy and intense film. It's rare that a Hollywood film manages to horrify and offend these days, so I'm very glad the new TCM went for a hard R-rating. The tone is so filthy and depraved that you will definitely need to shower soon afterwards. THAT'S how close you get to the action.

Even the character of Thomas 'Leatherface' Hewitt has a lot more to do this time. He's not quite Jason Voorhees but he's still an incredibly mean bad guy you'd NEVER want to mess with or come within 10 miles of. And in case you're wondering, he's played by the same dude who played Butterfinger, the big, dumb blonde guy from Hudson Hawk. Only this time he's not so cuddly.

Not since 8mm almost 5 years ago have I seen a film where the bad guys (there's more than one) are nothing but the blackest of all evil. R. Lee Ermey was terrific (as usual) as the disgusting Sheriff and any fans of him should only expect the most badass of performances.

Second to Dawn of the Dead (and tying with House of 1000 Corpses) this is one of the best horror movies I have seen in a long time.

The Platinum Series DVD is just awesome. The 1.85:1 anamorphic picture is superb and the Dolby 6.1/DTS ES soundtracks are incredible. You'll really think Leatherface is chainsawing his way into YOUR living room. There are also a massive load of interesting extras including a 75-minute documentary, deleted scenes, a documentary on serial killer Ed Gein (who was 'supposedly the inspiration for the original but Tobe Hooper denied these rumors) and screen test footage. The packaging is awesome with a metal plate stuck on the front cover and 'crime scene' photos in a little envelope tucked into back. It completes a great package of a great DVD of a great movie. Buy it!!!

High quality Jessica Biel Ad or Mediocre Film?

posted on 26 Jul 2009

Maybe the original TCM was better. I haven't seen it, but the 2003 version is a fairly plotless movie, albeit interesting. The secondary characters are quite well done. The setting is perfectly executed. Violence is less than expected, which is a good thing. Attack scenes are okay. However, even the villian takes a back seat to the ever present sweaty belly shots of Jessica Biel. Not that I'm complaining. If this doesn't spawn stardom for her nothing will. Besides, without her distracting displays I think I would have noticed the lack of story substance much more. She can act, too!All in all, it's a decent guy-flick. And no, it did NOT really happen.

another low budget indie horror classic DESECRATED

posted on 24 Jul 2009

Aside from Jessica Biel, who does her best with the feeble material given, as do R. Lee Ermey and the woman who plays "Leatherface's" mother, this is a pathetic effort--and done for the sole purpose of exploiting all the young and naive horror fans who don't know better--and who may not even be aware of the 1974 original.

The people who made this thing are absolutely souless and have made this for one reason and ONE REASON ONLY: to fill their pockets--with no regard for what made the original horror masterpiece work.

The script is B.S, the direction? Lame. (Pun not intended.) Where is the suspense, Mr. Director? Did you think you were making another laxative commercial? Is that why the entire film feels like a commercial made for morons with a short attention span?

The photography (even though it was Pearl, who did the original) is way too slick and makes what should have been grubby and eerie locations, appear fake--as though done on some Holllywood soundstage.

So what was the purpose, then? Whose idea was it? Nispel's? The producer's?

You stumbled and you fell.

Go take a real look at the original TCM--and tell me what you see. Can you figure out what makes it work? Can you? It's not rocket science.

The music? Way too lush for this film. Orchestral music for TCM? This is nuts. Look at the original! Mostly sound-effects--and NEXT TO NO MUSIC! THE WAY IT SHOULD BE DONE---for TCM!

And "Leatherface?" Give me a break.

Don't they know there is ONLY ONE GUY WHO CAN PLAY THIS CHARACTER? His name happens to be Gunnar Hansen. Remember the name?

Of course, they do--but you see, the Hollywood whores just don't give a damn.

It saddens me that this version pulled in 80 million. Because now, they will crank out even more tripe of this nature.

I didn't buy this, by the way, a friend shoved it at me, saying he only paid ten bucks for it, used, and that maybe I should take a look, since I respected the original TCM so much.

Guess what? I absolutely regret that I wasted time looking at this not-very horrifying and/or convincing "horror" flick. The only solace for me was being made aware of the gorgeous Jessica Biel.

Lisa L. as well did what she could with what she had to work with. It would be interesting to see what these actors can do with a real director guiding them.

What a totally cool film. Now probably my favourite. Before I saw this film I thought that it would not compare to the first one. As I was so scared when I saw it. Although it looked dated for this day and age it was a classic. This film has brought the horror to a new age.The more complex story line makes it even more freaky and scary.I'm pretty annoyed that people are saying that this film is no good okay we all allowed options but anyone who thinks this is no good really has not watched it properly. Bloodest Part : Where Andy is hanging from the hook with his leg cut in half and leatherface puts salt on the end of it and ties it up with paper and string. Funniest part : Where the sheriff comes to take the body away. While he is wrapping the body up with Andy. Overall great film 10/10. P.S - If you've seen the film you'll know what my title is about!

On the Edge of My Seat

posted on 22 Jul 2009

I can't say that about too many movies I've seen this year. Although I should mention that I have not seen the original yet but I decided not to before seeing this one which was a good idea. The reason being is the filmmakers of this version realized most of the kids going to see it would most likely not have seen the original since it came out years before they were born. With that said I was not making any comparisons in my mind to the original and therefore wasn't distracted from the raw effect of this movie. It literally did have me squirming on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. There were graphic and powerful images shot to the most vivid disturbing detail which stuck with me well after the movie ended. To me that is a true horror film experience without the camp or unnecessary nudity of a teen slasher flick. The dark mood and imagery throughout did the trick on a believably creepy level. It made me thank God there aren't truly people as horribly sick and twisted out there who exist like that or so I hope. Although this movie was loosely inspired by a serial killer who had a penchant for skinning his victims and also inspired other movies such as "Silence of the Lambs".As awful of a place this movie takes you to, you may find yourself wanting to stay. That's why the movie ends leaving you wanting more. I say it's a sure bet that was done intentionally and effectively by the filmmakers to leave the door open for followup films to further explore such a ghastly hell. Many questions are left unanswered. What ever happened to the one girl who managed to escape one of Leatherface's attacks early on in the film? Were any of Leatherface's psychotic family members implicated at all for the events that took place? And of course what happens to Jessica Biels' character after we last see her? We know she survives and it is implied she manages to get help and report what happened. Still you are left wondering, especially with the scene that follows, about what became of all the other characters who remained. I give this film 9 out of 10 stars for the suspense and haunting images.

Good horror movie but..

This is a good horror movie but it does not follow the real life of Ed Gein.Because1)The real Texas chainsaw massacre never used a chainsaw, he used a 32 caliber to kill his victim and a knife to take the skin of then.2)In the movie he had a family, a mother, a brother etc.. But in real life his whole family died before 1945.3)In the movie The Texas chainsaw massacre killed whoever he see's but in real life Ed Gein only killed females over 50 years old. Why??Because he mother was over 50 years old and he did not like her.4)In the movie he had a his father to help him kill the victim but in real life he had a friend but in went in prison a short while after he started killing in 1950.5)In the movie the sheriff was on his side. But him real life the cops were not on his team there were trying to get prove to put him behind bars.6)In the movie where did he learn to take the skin of his victims??Nowhere but in real life he read lots of book about the human body.If you like horror films watch this one but if you want to learn about the life of Ed Gein avoid this film and read about him and this film should not have been inspired by a true story.7 out of 10 for a good horror movie not for the life of Ed Gein. Enjoy!
