In the heart of suburbia, a hit man with heart has just moved in.
Life's a comedy. It's all in the execution.

PLOT SUMMARY

Oz is a Montréal dentist, paying off debts so he can divorce his wife: the dislike is mutual. When she learns their new neighbor is hit man Jimmy the Tulip, with a price on his head, she sends Oz to Chicago to earn a finder's fee telling Mob boss Yanni where to find Jimmy. To get his wife off his back, Oz goes, his assistant Jill urging him to get laid while there. One of Yanni's men awaits Oz at the hotel; Oz's now in too deep to avoid telling Yanni what he knows. Meanwhile, Oz's wife rats on Oz to Jimmy, hoping Jimmy will kill Oz and she can cash in on life insurance. Oz meets Jimmy's wife (Yanni's captive), flips for her, and the double-crosses mount. Even Jill isn't whom she seems.

This is one great movie!

I loved this comedy. Bruce Willis was great. He made me think of Moonlighting and Die Hard again. He should focus his attention more on these kind of roles. He's a natural. The other actors in this are well cast also. I even liked Matthew Perry and I don't really care for him that much as an actor. Michael Clarke Duncan was a joy to watch and has some of the funniest stuff. Go see this movie and take someone with you. 7 out of 10 and leaning toward an 8.

this one was confusing from start to end.. i watched the whole thing and i still cant figure it out to this day.. it made NO sense.. it wasnt in the least bit funny...[SPOILERS AHEAD] .... i mean everyone was trying to bump each other off.. i cant figure that out at ALL... too bad they didnt succed at it.. everyone would be better off dead in this one !!!and the ending had me totally lost.. cause Luke Perry's character ends up with another woman in the end.. and i cant even remember what happens with his wife.. it was SO Dumb.. why does Bruce sign up for these turkeys???

Usually when you make a mob movie that is also a comedy movie, it usually fails. (i.e. Mafia!)But to my surprise, this movie pulled it off. I am a very big fan of Bruce Willis, and I can tell you that this can be considered one of his best performences. Some of the other chracters (who's names i can't remember and i'm too lazy to click back and look up)where a little weak, but otherwise this is worth the money to see.

The Whole Nine Yards Of Fun!

posted on 13 Aug 2009

I rented The Whole Nine Yards a few days ago, and just watched it this morning, I'm such a huge Bruce Willis fan, I don't see him that often in comedies, so I was curious how this would work. But after viewing this film, I have to just say that this movie was just so funny! I couldn't believe how much it made me laugh, I know it's such a dark subject, but it was pretty cool how they just turned into a zanny comedy. Bruce Willis and Matthew Perry were just the most perfect choices, they were like ying and yang. Matthew as this guy who just is scared of everything and finally has something at the end to say where he has control and Bruce couldn't have been a more perfect choice as the cocky and yet charismatic hit man who could be threatening but yet the most likable guy in the world. The story was just very clever and worked so well with the cast.Nick is just your average guy, he is a dentist and a very likable guy, but he gets walked on quite a bit, especially by his wife who he feels like he owes her family, so he won't divorce her. But one day, a new neighbor moves in, Nick notices him pretty much off the bat, it's Jimmy "the tulip" Tudeski, the famous hit man who has killed 17 people and also ratted out his boss. He's on the run from his boss in Chicago and has a ransom on his head. Nick actually likes Jimmy, but his wife, Sophie, says to turn him in and get the award. He goes to Chicago and falls in love with Jimmy's wife, Cynthia. When Nick comes back home to Canada, he learns from Jimmy that his wife has gone to hire a hit man to kill Nick. But Nick also learns that Jimmy wants to kill Cynthia, Jimmy's boss wants to kill Nick, Nick's receptionist is also a hit woman, pretty much everyone wants to kill everyone. That's pretty much the best way to sum up The Whole Nine Yards, but trust me when I say that this is such a fun movie. I really had a good time watching this movie, Bruce Willis was just so great. But I have to admit that Amanda Peet's performance floored me when she was just admiring Bruce's work and getting advice from him on what her first hit should be like. She was just so adorable while being deadly. So please, I would recommend this film, it's a dark comedy, yes, but it's all good, just learn to let go and have fun if you're very sensitive on the subject.7/10

hilarious!

Very Cool

I'm normally kinda hard to please with movies like this...but this one is really funny ! Some people seem to get a little picky about plot lines, accents, etc. Yeah, we all know that it's really wrong to be a hitman, it's not nice to hurt ppl, etc.... I like a movie that entertains...if I wanted reality I wouldn't be at the movies. Perry was hilarious, Willis was funny as he downplayed his part and let others have the funny lines. I actually thought everyone did great jobs acting. What really made me (and the whole audience) laugh was the you are caught totally off-guard by the unexpected lines, physical humor, etc.A great way to spend an evening. I recommend it. This is one I could watch more than once.

HIT MEN, AND WOMEN, GALORE

A LITTLE QUIRKY WITH DARK HUMOR, BUT WILLIS AND PERRY GIVE SOLID ROLE PERFORMANCES. SOME FUNNY MOMENTS AND AN INTERESTING, YET SOMEWHAT INTRICATE, PLOT WITH A SATISTYING END. GOOD MOVIE.

Good actors wasted

The movie was not a good comedy, but not because of the actors who did the best they could given what they had to work with. Most of the comments below focus on lousy acting, particularly a poor French-Canadian accent by Rosanna Arquette. I find these responses harsh because I doubt if anyone could bring life into this script. It is a comedy almost on a subliminal level and too many scenes are played straight as an arrow. There are some love interests to help distract the fact there isn't much to laugh at, and they didn't work for the most part either. Some of those scenes contained very cliched lines, I felt bad the actors had to say them! On the good side, it was a treat to see a movie set in Montreal and Amanda Peet is marvelous to look at. If that is enough for you, check it out.

Fabulous combination of mystery, romance and humor.

Saw a rental of this and immediately ordered the DVD. It is absolutely outstanding and offers something for just about every taste! The cast did a great job, all of them being totally believable, yet often switching from one convincer to the opposite.

Mathew Perry Carries Film

posted on 18 Jun 2009

In my opinion, Mathew Perry carries the film on his shoulders. He was very funny and added humor to every scene in which he was in. Bruce Willis is his usual hard self and theres even some nudity for the guys. But just because of Mathew Perry's performance I'm giving this a high 7.

Really funny, Matthew Perry is gorgeous in this movie !

Wow, this is a cool movie. I really laughed my a** off! This movie has 2 very strong advantages: First a gorgeous cast. All actors do a great job but Matthew Perry definitely stole the show. He is so funny as the only really innocent guy among all those mafia people. He gets into hilarious situations and made everybody in the theater laugh very very hard. Bruce Willis is also great! Second, there is an amazing script. Plot turns which nobody would guess and a funny story with dialogue that is just so incredibly funny! This is a movie that I enjoyed very much (especially Matthew Perry's performance). I highly recommend it to anybody who likes those slapstick comedies and movies that deal with the mob. I rate it 9/10.

I Love This Movie!!!

Not only was Luke Perry very much like his character Chandler in "Friends" which is funny as it is endearing, Bruce Willis is his usual suave self. I loved watching Bruce's facial expressions in this movie because his eyes show more then his words are saying. I loved the two songs sung by Stephanie Biddle and this movie has several twists in the plot that were a total surprise. If you're a Bruce Willis or Luke Perry fan, you have to have this movie! It's delightfully funny.

Look at the poster, then watch something else

I think that if this movie had been an interactive venture, where technological revolutions allowed characters to jump off the screen and interact with the audience, I would choose to be first of all, tortured by the limp and weak willed dentist played by Mathew Perry, and then assassinated by the hitman, played, with incredible deftness by Bruce Willis, rather than watch the film. What a complete cacophony of cinematic self indulgence. The "story" is simpler than the idiot characters in the film. Man in miserable marriage happens to learn that next door neighbour is a hitman with a beautiful wife. There's the obligatory 10 million dollars involved, lots of so-called "treachery and betrayal" (nothing out of place in your average group of friends), and absolutely pointless nudity of the "Carry On Doctor" variety (not that the bare chest of Amanda Peet is anything to complain about, it was just about the only redeeming feature of the film). As for Mathew Perry, well, there's no doubt about it, he has comedy exuding from his pores, and there are times in the movie, when in a slapstick rage, he performs some hilariously comic moments. But not enough, and not sufficiently weaved into the plot. Nice try Mathew. There's also a small role by Michael Clark Duncan, fresh from his brilliant performance in the Green Mile as a fellow hitman. Unfortunately there was nothing substantial in this for him to flex his considerable acting abilities, but rather a chance to play the nice but clearly capable cold-blooded killer with muscles. In all, it looked like a collection of actors, who, whilst waiting for the scripts of the film they were really working on to comeback from the printers, decided to have a few laughs and left the camera rolling. Give this one a miss and catch Mathew Perry doing his 'thing' on Friends.

One laugh after another in an unbelievably funny film!

posted on 13 May 2009

The Whole Nine Yards proved to be one of the funniest films I've ever seen. There are lines that keep you constantly laughing. Matthew Perry easily steals the film from Bruce Willis and Academy Award nominee Michael Clarke Duncan. Solid cast with clever writing & great directing. A definite must own for any comedy fan!

A fair movie but why on earth is there a sequel to this?

posted on 09 May 2009

The Whole Nine Yards is a silly little comedy that is too morbid and just goes too far even for a Bruce Willis movie. In this movie Bruce Willis plays a hitman named Jimmy the Tulip Tudeski. He is in Canada on the witness relocation program. His wife and others notice that he is a familiar face as he was once in jail. His neighbor is Nicholas Ozeransky who is just nervous about the whole situation. This movie is just too unbelievable. The humor is very dark there really is no point to the movie and overall just can't decide what kind of comedy it wants to be. Willis is also just a bad comedian. He has no timing and he belongs in action films where he really doesn't have to have any kind of timing and he can just look tough for two hours and rake in the bucks. Kevin Pollak is good in a supporting part and I hate to admit it but Matthew Perry actually does a good job. Michael Clarke Duncan is pretty decent as well but the problem with this movie is that it is so uneven. It sometimes has slapstick comedy, sometimes very dark humor sometimes it relies on Bruce Willis to be funny and that shows a movie being very desperate. With that said this is a fair movie to watch a good movie to waste an hour and a half on. SPOILER the only problem is the black guy dies yet again.
Sad isn't it? I recently got word they are making a sequel to this, why?
The first movie didn't do that well and was badly reviewed. Why they would make a sequel to such a silly and forgettable film I do not know. But hey that's Hollywood.

A thoroughly enjoying film

This was a very enjoyable movie... It's light and it's not exactly highbrow, but Matthew Perry is very funny and Bruce Willis is hilarious as a hit man. The supporting cast is also good as Michael Clarke Duncan, Natasha Henstridge and Amanda Peet are all great... Peet, who I'd never heard of until I saw this movie is a real revelation... A gorgeous actress who can pull of very physical comedy... It's not a great film at the level of American Beauty or Green Mile, it's just a thoroughly enjoyable comedy...

Certainly the whole nine yards

I liked this film alot. Matthew perry was great along with Buce willis. The film i thought was only funny with Perry's jitterness. The rest wasnt all that funny, parts were, but not too often. That didnt matter though, the story was good enough to hold out. Overall id give it 3/5

Non Stop Laughs

One of the things that makes this movie so funny it that the actors and actresses can say the funiest or most extremely drastic things and say it as if it was as everyday as going to the store or they say something so everyday and say it in a way that is so funny or drastic.

The unlikly pairing of Bruce Willis a big guy and Mathew Perry a not so big guy also gets big luaghs.

Virtully anyone who likes comedies that involve major delemas and comedies that involve people saying things importent like it's nothing or vice versa will love this movie

Quite hilarious...I laughed until my head hurt.

Oh man, what can I say about this movie. I didn't expect to laugh this much during the movie. Everyone in the movie did a great job (except Natasha Henstridge, but she's SO incredibly beautiful it just didn't matter). Matthew Perry was being pretty much himself during the movie which is, needless to say, HILARIOUS. Michael Clarke Duncan played his role very well and made me laugh a lot also. Bruce Willis, of course, played his part to perfection, as he usually does. Just a very funny movie, I recommend it very highly.
