The item is exactly as described in the listing. It was new and sealed.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy from this seller. Thank you.

It's not a comedy. It's not interesting either.

It's not a comedy. Therefore, the plot does not make sense with all the killings. It's not interesting either.

You Get What You Pay For

OK, maybe this should be obvious, but...
There are no special features on this disk--must be the earliest release--and, let's be real, that's always been one of the best things about this format.
Yeah, good movie, story, actors, acting, but bite the bullet and buy the director's cut with all the goodies.

THIS DVD IS NOT ENHANCED FOR 16X9.

posted on 31 Aug 2009

This latest edition which was released in 2007 is a single disc set and the box says enhanced for widescreen. It is not enhanced though. It is an error on Warners part. If you want it enhanced you still need to buy the two disc set. The movie is great though.

So totally underrated!

Ok, so my neighbor tells me about this film and says it's great. I rent it, and now know that's an understatement. Gary Oldman, Christian Slater, B. Pitt, Dennis Hopper, Chris Walken, and super Patricia Arquette are at the top of their acting games!!!! The story is typical Quentin Tarantino. If you like Pulp Fiction, you'll love this film. It's fresh, original, and way too much fun. I really can see from this film why Quentin is so popular with the ladies.
He's a genius with a heart of gold. I think this film is better than Pulp Fiction, which I love. Rent or buy, but see this film!

Exciting, sexy crime thriller with top-notch Tarantino script.

Clarence: I always said, if I had to f*ck a guy... I mean had to, if my life depended on it... I'd f*ck Elvis. Exciting, sexy, enjoyable crime thriller with great and great-looking stars is one of my favourite Tarantino scripts. Sparkling pop-culture dialogue, great characters, great scenes (check the one between Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken, Gary Oldman's gem of a scene, Brad Pitt's just lying there on the couch, the classic movie theatre scene where Clarence and Alabama meet, followed by the just as classic diner scene).Has a great sense of humour - the pervasive joke is every reaction you think Alabama will have to the various stupid things Clarence does, she has the opposite. Violence is true romance - sick? Perhaps. Its the one thing Tony Scott and Tarantino agree on: unnecessary violence is not cheap exploitation, its entertainment. I personally think the shock effects Tarantino uses to structure his screenplays are quite gimmicky and undergraduate. Quality does not always mean sudden shifts of sex and violence. Surprise is not always good. I could have done without the hotel room scene, for example, where Alabama has a near-deadly encounter with a hit-man. One of the most violent things i've ever seen.Nevertheless, if you skip these scenes, its a compulsively enjoyable ride, and one of Tony Scott's least offensive films (Top Gun is sheer obnoxiousness today).8/10

No False in this Movie.

True Romance is a very good movie, though not great. A very good script andfast action written by Quentin Tarantino. The direction isn't anything special, and
I wish that Tarantino had actually directed it. The story has a comic book clerk
named Clarence who meets and falls in love with a hooker named Alabama.Clarence confronts her pimp and takes a briefcase full of cocaine on accident.
When Clarence discovers this, the two head for Hollywood and plan to sell it to
filmmakers. The drug dealers pursue them. True Romance is an action-packedlove story that delivers and does well. Good cast including Christian Slater,
Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt,
and Val Kilmer. A great cast and an impressive script makes the film shine. 8/10
stars.

Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper scene

posted on 01 Aug 2009

There's nothing new I can add that hasn't already been said about this movie, so I would rather talk about what has to be one of the greatest scenes in movie history: the confrontation scene between Walken and Hopper. We are so lucky to have this scene to watch over and over again. A lot of people have blasted Tony Roberts' direction, but he DID get these performances for this scene. The way Walken reacts and smiles at Hopper's "story" is subtle and brilliant. You can see from his reactions that his anger is increasing with each new sentence from Hopper, but he chooses to make it look as if he is amused, not letting Hopper know. Of course Hopper DOES know, having sized up Walken as well as the situation within seconds. This is his last hurrah -- he knows he is going to die, but he is actually getting the better of Walken in doing so, and you can see it in his eyes during this scene. Walken creates a sense of menace/impending doom while all the while being friendly and polite -- he is in my opinion the best actor in Hollywood today. (See The Dead Zone if you don't believe me.)I have to also put in a good word for Gary Oldman's stunningly brilliant performance as well.

Action, Romance & Thrills galore Starring: Patricia Arquette, Christian Slater, Dennis Hopper, Michael Rapaport, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, James Gandolfini, and Christopher Walken.True Romance has it all and it gets going from the first minute. It's one of those must-see Tarantino films that is as pulsating as it is exceptional viewing content. Finding a stellar cast such as this would prove impossible today, but True Romance nabbed all these superstars. Two lonely people find each other in Detroit's slums. But there is one order of business that needs to be taken care of beforehand and his name is Drexel.Christian Slater, aka Clarence Whirley steps up to the plate as Alabama's love interest in this hard-hitting, action-laced adventure saga. This adrenaline-loaded saga explodes into a terrifying ordeal of blood and guts with a surprise ending for the star-crossed lovers.

Never a dull moment

Though from Tony Scott ("Beverly Hills Cop II" and "Days of Thunder"), "True Romance" reeks of writer Quentin Tarantino. More glitzy and highly charged than most of Tarantino's work, it is still peopled with characters typical of his films - lowlifes and strange gangsters - and is full of clever, sharp and insightfully humorous dialogue.Perhaps the romantic element is misplaced, and the Elvis factor may not be entirely effective, but certainly each encounter the Morley's have with their pursuers, and that the pursuers have with others, is enjoyable and action packed, even occasionally gruesome.Had he directed, Quentin would probably have turned this into a real philosophical trip, ala "Pulp Fiction", yet director Tony Scott has gone all out for the shoot 'em up style, delivering romping entertainment while neglecting the deeper probings of Q.T.'s script. This is not to say that Mr. Scott has let us down, but if you don't like full on, in your face action flicks, you'd better forget about this one.All the cast, quite an ensemble, have a great time, especially the walk-ons. Gary Oldman, Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken are most enjoyable. Leads Christian Slater and the sexy Patricia Arquette hold up very well. Brad Pitt, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Penn, Saul Rubinek and Val Kilmer also drop in on proceedings.Hans Zimmer's music works reasonably well, cinematography is exciting and gunplay action sequences are nerve racking. Editing keeps things well paced. Never a dull moment.Friday, February 23, 1996 - Astor TheatreTony Scott's boisterous, high energy action flick, which is peopled with characters and dialogue typical of Quentin Tarantino (the writer), is highly recommended to those who enjoy their movies loud, fast and with loads of gunplay. While Scott keeps the action coming thick and fast, Tarantino maintains a steady supply of lowlifes to keep us equally entertained. Leads Slater and Arquette do fine, but it is the support cast that grab our attention. Gary Oldman is totally absorbed in his character as always, playing a white pimp whose psychosis has him convinced he's anything but white. Just as entertaining are Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper, and the scene played between them is a particular highlight. Joining the fun also are Brad Pitt, Val Kilmer, Chris Penn, Saul Rubinek and Samuel L. Jackson.Colourfully funny and always pacey, "True Romance" is a great one off adventure (at the movies especially) that features a handy score from Hans Zimmer.Sunday, April 20, 1997 - Video

Non Stop Suspense, Superb Acting, Great Story Line, Amazing Characters

A Quentin Tarentino Masterpiece. I would have given this movie a 10 our of 10 but I only would give a movie a perfect 10 if their were absolutely no flaws at all. That rarely happens. I can only think of 2 perfect 10 movies that I have seen in my entire life that would deserve that score.True Romance would be on that list if the ending did not get quite a bit far-fetched. Other than that this movie is perfect!!!! If you like Crime, Suspense, Action, great acting, and a great story. Don't miss this.Scenes with Christian Slater and Gary Oldman are unforgettable. Short cameos from actors such as Christopher Walken, Dennis Hopper, Brad Pitt (before fame), James Gandofini are superbly directed and acted. The true stars of the movie are Patricia Arquette and Christian Slater. They have wonderful chemistry and I cant imagine this movie made with any other actors playing their characters.

This is one of the greatest movies ever. As usual tarintino turns out a fantastic script and the direction from Tony Scott is sheer brilliance, but the cast, wow, it must be one of the greatest casts ever, even cameo roles are filled by stars. Christian Slater plays Clarence, a low paid comic book store worker living life to the fullest, when he meets call girl Alabama (Patricia Arquette). ironically they fall in love and get married. Clarence goes to sort out her pimp (gary Oldman) and ends up killing him. He finds a suitcase full of cocaine. they flee to L.A to unload it whilst the owners of the coke follow them in an outstanding turn of events. With some of the most memorable scenes in film this is a must see, it would be worth seeing just for the actors in it. Dennis Hopper plays Clarences father and Christopher Walken as the drug dealer in pursuit. With many great performances from James Gandolfini, Micheal Rappaport, Saul Rubinek, Brad Pitt, Tom Sizemore, Chris Penn, Bronson Pinchot, Samuel. L Jackson and Val Kilmer as Elvis. This film promises not to disappoint. Tony Scott has always been known for his way of making a certain topic interesting (Top Gun, Days of thunder, crimson tide) and in this case Love. I was moved by this film, by far one of the most heartwarming films ever made, unusual for a Tarintino script but it is very touching. A phenomenal film and definitely one to buy. 10/10

Tony Scott's greatest achievement to date!

True Romance is just one of those movies that has a knack of representing all the negative points about society in the most beautiful way. I mean who would have thought murder would lead to being the most romantic thing in the world? I suppose the thing I love the most about this movie is its ability to make you happy and give you that essential feel good factor. I love how Christian Slater was put in the leading role - I don't think I could imagine anyone else with so much energy and charisma. Its also refreshing to see him in a leading role as he is usually a supporting character. And as for the supporting cast - so many amazing cinematic achievements in one film! Christopher Walken is scarier than I've seen him for like, well, ever! Dennis Hopper's last speech is actually beautiful. Val Kilmer pops up there somewhere too - but I'm not spoiling that for you. And just what was Brad Pitt thinking? Obviously he was still in his Kalifornia role when he signed up for the ride. Enjoy my 4th favorite film of all time

Wrong ideology

Some judge that the values the movie transmit are more conservative than counter-cultural or alternative, and that this doesn't prevent it from being a typical Hollywood movie.I think on the contrary that True Romance is quintessentially a Hollywood movie because the values it tries to transmit (the supreme value of the individual against all forms of authority(the police and crime, and on a lighter level, family and traditional moral),life seen as a roller-coaster...)go directly against the traditional American ones.It only serves Hollywood's almost subversive aims to use the pattern of the American Dream,to couple it with the notion of the Hero, and to lend it a woman's voice.

Tarantino Does It Again!

True Romance is an excellent film! Don't be fooled by the title! This is not some kind of sickening romance movie. It does deal with the aspects of love, but it is crazy! Look at the writer! Quentin Tarantino! You must see this movie!Alright, we have this guy, a cowboy who has a strong love for films. So on his birthday, he goes and watched this Kung Fu Trilogy at a movie theatre. When he is there, he meets this girl. They hit it off, go back to his place, and well, you know the rest. Later that night, she admits that she is a call girl, and that the man's boss hired her to be his date for the night. She also admits that she fell in love with him that night. He feels the same love for her. So he goes to her 'Pimps' house to get her belongings, and that's when the trouble starts. Now I know with a title like TRUE ROMANCE, unless you are a romance film fan, you are probably thinking, 'It can't be like all of Tarantino's other movies. Think again! The only thing that could have made this movie better would be if Tarantino would have directed this movie himself. But he did write it, and it does rock. There is one fight scene in it that will even make YOU hurt.An excellent cast, an excellent director, and one of the best writers alive. Check it out!

Possibly the most entertaining film ever made

posted on 23 Jun 2009

"True Romance" is far from a perfect film on a technical level. Still, it is possibly the most entertaining and cool flick of the decade. Its always refreshing to see a film that is so self-referentially violent and makes no qualms about it. Sure, there is absolutely nothing beneath the surface to what is presented on screen. But who watches these films for a deeper meaning? As an action film, "True Romance" loads on the violence, clever dialog, and quirky characters we look for in films such as this. Some may be nervous about Tony Scott directing a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino. Scott is best known for directing a lot of vapid and insipid 80s blockbusters such as "Top Gun" and "Beverly Hills Cop II". Fortunatly, he doesn't feel the need to impose his own visual style onto Tarantino's script unlike Oliver Stone. In the end, it feels more like a Tarantino picture than a Tony Scott one. As far as the screenplay is concerned, it doesn't have the three-dimensional characters that "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction" had, but it has many of the other hallmarks we have come to expect from Tarantino. The dialog is witty and memorable, with several quotable lines. Also, its an incredibly cool movie, loaded with references to cult films for folks like myself. The cast is one of the best of the decade. I'm not even going to go over the great performers who are in it, but I'll just mention my favorite portrayals. Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken are both amazing, and the interaction between the two is one of the best scenes ever in a movie. Gary Oldman is incredibly sleazy as the pimp Drexl Spivey. And despite being in many other much more acclaimed roles, Brad Pitt will always be the stoner on the couch for me. These are just a few of the memorable roles in the film. This isn't exactly a life changing masterpiece, but is one of the most entertaining and cool films ever made. (10/10)
