Bullock and Grant - a winning combination

posted on 31 Aug 2009

(very minor spoilers, all before the middle of the movie)Being billed as a Valentine special over here certainly helps with TWN's box office. The fact that there hasn't been any movie in the same genre shown lately also helps. Against the likes of Roberts, Ryan and even Witherspoon, Bullock may not fare too well. What I'm thinking though is: if you would like your lover to be like Julia, your daughter to be like Meg and your mistress to be like Reese, Sandra is what you want for a friend. Just a personal opinion of course. As to Grant, coming out of the movie, my wife commented "I still can't think of anyone who can play these roles as well as Grant." I agreed ("not even Cary", saying silently to myself). The opening credit has been cleverly designed to tell half the story. You see alternate pictures of the two lead characters growing up: the rich capitalist vs the people's lawyer. Then, at the scene where Bullock is called from a wedding to help with selecting from Grant's wardrobe for a function, it dawned on me that another element of the plot came from Cactus Flower. Did Walter Matthau the dentist not become so dependent on his professional assistant Ingrid Bergman for everyday details of his life that she became indispensible? The movie has a lot of good laughs. One liners such as "you need someone who can write your briefs rather than removing them" (something like that) are actually quite funny. If you go with the right kind of mood (Valentine, for example?) you should find it quite enjoyable. The laughs are good value you get for your admission price. And althought you won't exactly be moved to tears at the happy ending (come now, you wouldn't call this a spioler, would you), you do come out with a good, cheerful feeling. Finally, as I saw Two Weeks Notice back to back with Catch Me If You Can, I just can't resist making this remark: Are we to hear Come Fly With Me in every Hollywood movie now?

Bullock and Grant...Chemistry like Tracy and Hepburn

posted on 29 Aug 2009

Simply a great movie, lots of fun. Not your typical Sandra Bullock vehicle because the chemistry between her and Hugh Grant is great. Hope this is the beginning of a Tracy Hepburn relationship. Kudos to Ms. Bullock and Mr. Grant. It is just plain great fun and well worth a trip to the movies. Nearly 2 hours of pure fun.

Two Weeks To Long

Being a fan of both Miss. Sandra Bullock and Mr. Hugh Grant I looked forward to what I felt would be a fun movie, unfortunately I was to be quite disappointed.

Miss Bullock's character lacked the manic energy she has frequently displayed and that this story badly needed. Her character, Lucy Kelson, had a great deal of potential, which a lackluster performance did not deliver.

Mr. Grant's performance was better, but not markedly so. The `one liners' he delivered had little punch and even less humor. The chemistry between the two main characters, necessary in this type film, just didn't seem to be there.

The one bright spot was Miss. Alicia Witt, as June Carter, a sort of rival to Miss Bullock's character for the affections of Mr. Grant. Her performance had energy, humor, the vulnerability of youth and at the same time the sense that she was potentially a predator manipulating the situation for personal gain.

Bottom line: Even the best miss on occasion and this is one such occasion.

delightful romantic comedy

Two Weeks Notice is a cute romantic comedy. It makes a good holiday movie.Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock, who have been in several romantic comedies before pair for the first time in Two Weeks Notice, one of the reasons why this is a good movie, two people who are good acting (you may disagree) and have experience on romantic comedies. It's also funny. Nothing Oscar-worthy, but it's worth seeing. Grade: B+

SO FUNNY

TWO WEEKS NOTICE is one of my favorite movies. There. I said it. Read on to see why I love this movie.

TWO WEEKS NOTICE is the story of Lucy (Sandra Bullock), a very. . . It's hard to describe her. She aspires to be a great lawyer - and in truth is - but she settles to work at Legal Aide and do pro-bono work instead of going and making money. Until she meets George Wade (Hugh Grant!).

George Wade is a multi-millionaire businessman, the face of Wade Corporations. He hires Lucy while he is in need of an assistant. They make a bargain - she'll work for him and help him get his building built, but he must keep the Coney Island Community Center. This works - for a while.

Lucy finally gets fed up with George's late night calls and strange demands and his lack of R-E-S-P-E-C-T (see movie for joke). So she gives him her two weeks' notice. But the thing is, Lucy is in love with George, but is too prideful to admit it.

This movie is so well written and well done overall. Hugh Grant does a wonderful job as George, whether you want to admit or not. He and Sandy Bullock may not have perfect chemistry, but they are so funny together. There are moments in the movie that make me laugh out loud. And I rarely laugh out loud.

LUCY: I think you are the most selfish person on the planet, George.
GEORGE: That's just silly. Have you met everyone on the planet?

See this movie. It's genuinely funny.

"Too Boring" Notice

posted on 30 Jul 2009

I am a fan of Hugh Grant especially for the comedy movies Nine Months, Notting Hill and 3 Weddings and 1 Funeral. I also liked Sandra Bullock in movies like The Net, While you were sleeping for her excellent performances. So, with great expectations I wanted to see this so called comedy but it was a total disappointment. The movie was so boring that I could not even finish it. The actors look ordinary, the story looks ordinary and so the treatment. A total waste. The stardom is wasted and so is our time too.

Was the movie taken it two weeks?

Funny, Funny, Funny

I love Sandra Bullock. She is one of my favorite actresses. I think she is so funny.
In her newest film "Two Weeks Notice" she as is funny as ever, alongside Hugh Grant, they romp through this movie with funny jokes in almost evey secene. Grank, and Bullock have such great chemistry and are so funny together.
It was writtwn by Marc Lawernce who was the scribe for Bullocks last three films "Forces of Nature", "Miss Congrniality", and "Two Weeks Notice". He also directed this film.
It was solidly written, and directed. The cast gives a solid performences and the sets were great, they were all live in NYC. This is a great film and I can't wait for the DVD, which arrives on April 29th. If you havent seen it yet be sure to rent, its great!

Witless

An absolute dud! This movie is poorly written, ineptly directed, and edited with no sense of comedy or continuity. I am a big fan of both Grant and Bullock, but I have to say that this is one of the WORST movies that I have ever seen!

Nothing short of standard. (spoilers)

This is a boring romantic comedy in which Hugh Grant, once again in his narrow range of talent, plays an arrogant, wealthy Englishman. Here, he is an altruistic business developer who befriends an extreme activist of sorts (Sandra Bullock). He, initially irrevocably pigheaded though surprisingly charming, and she, stubborn and dogmatic about the way things should work, soon become unlikely professional partners before the Hollywood convention of becoming intimately involved. I would say it is most comparable to the recent Mel Gibson/Helen Hunt comedy, 'What Women Want' in that typical personality/gender conflict turned light romance after a mutual understanding reached after initial narrow-mindedness.However, although Hugh Grant's character is hardly a change from any other character he's portrayed within the last five years or more at least, and although Sandra Bullock's quirkiness is amusing and chuckle-worthy, the movie overall is horribly trite and largely unfunny and, as most mainstream romantic comedies go these days, unnecessary. For either Hugh Grant fans or Sandra Bullock fans, you'd probably find better refuge in their other performances, especially where each (and others in the film) have portrayed exactly the same characters, but in other films). This is yet another title is Hollywood's bland 1950s revival. Three cheers for something else!

Two Weeks of Pure Fun and Wacky Sweetness

I bought this movie for my mom who love's the scene when Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant are in the helicopter. This movie is sweet, funny, and cunningly tackles a few political/social issues as well. Enjoy it for what it is..the title says it all.

Predictiable and unoriginal, but harmless and fun...

posted on 28 Jun 2009

Romantic comedy fluff directed by the writer of two other Sandra Bullock films: Forces of Nature & Miss Cogeniality. The problem is, 2 Weeks Notice isn't as original as either of those, but it still may be the more enjoyable of the three. Both Hugh Grant and Bullock have done these roles before and this script has definitely been done before. Bullock plays a hard working lawyer who cares about the community and loves to protest the Wade corporation who is always tearing down some important building to put in a parking lot. Ironically, Grant is sort of the CEO of WADE and Bullock ends up working for him and surprise...falling in love with him. Another one of those girl falls for extremely selfish rich guy and rich guy gives it all up to prove he really loves her stories. The love story is a little unconvincing and the plot is nothing new, but its a harmless romantic comedy that is far from the worst of the genre mostly due to some funny moments and decent performances from Bullock and Grant. Actually, Bullock said in an interview that after this film she was going to slow down on the romantic comedy roles...good for her. Keep your eyes open for unsubtle cameo by Norah Jones. It's like one of those music videos for a film soundtrack that intercut film clips with the artist performing only look! There's Norah Jones right in the movie! Also Donald Trump shows up as himself at a fundraiser, maintaining his stance that no matter how rich a man is...he can still have an awful haircut.

Excellent movie at a great price

I got exactly what I paid for. The movie worked perfectly. Great chick flick.

Low key and slow moving film that shows opposites can end up in a romance.

posted on 24 Jun 2009

2002's "Two Weeks Notice" is an okay film even though it seems shallow and low key as it's story doesn't really move it. The film is carried mostly by the performances of it's stars Grant and Bullock. And to me I wouldn't consider this a comedy classic, still it has plenty of wit and charm of your typical comedy and the chemistry with Sandra and Hugh makes it interesting. Sandra Bullock is gold hearted attorney Lucy Kelson who wants to save the world and fight for the rights of everything. Yet her talent is going to waste by being an appointment and schedule manager for her rich and cocky boss George Wade(Hugh Grant) so Lucy has other plans and she tries to find a new partner for George by searching New York City . As in life love and cupid is unexpected and unplanned as you see in the end that opposites attract and that can lead to an unexpected romance. Overall a pretty good film of finding romance it's mostly carried by Bullock and Grant. Donald Trump has a cameo, and Alicia Witt has a memorable scene in a sexy black strapless bra she was good as a potential sex kitten for George. Not bad to watch if you want to pass some time.

Unfunny

I like romantic comedies. Sadly this is not one. It is not funny, and not romantic, though it tries to be both.Hugh and Sandras characters are purely one dimensional. You do not identify with any of them, and besides that the plot is so small it is almost non existing.

Predictable Fluff

posted on 22 Jun 2009

Nothing worth seeing-- Grant has made some classics in this genre (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones's Diary)-- but "Two Weeks Notice" is not a classic. It isn't even an admirable effort. It is clear he enjoyed working with Sandra Bullock offscreen, but they share little onscreen chemistry. Bullock continues her title as the "poor man's Julia Roberts" -- it's not a harmful film-- it's just not very good.

Great combination...Sandra & Hugh

posted on 22 Jun 2009

According to the tabloids, Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant were not lovey-dovey on the set of Two Weeks Notice. But they certainly did have chemistry when acting together. Their timing was perfect and their characterizations made the movie. Both have wonderful facial expressions and body movements and used these to make the interaction come alive. For fun, laughter and entertainment watch this movie, then watch it again.

Predictable yes, but bad no

This is a movie that follows the formula for romantic comedies. It does this with twists and wonderful acting. It is also incredibly funny. When I saw it the whole theater would laugh uproariously. Grant and Bullock are superb and have great chemistry. Alicia Witt has a medium sized role but always makes the best of it. This movie is absolutely awesome.

Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock work great together

This movie is great if you like Hugh Grant and his fun-loving charm. He works great with Sandra Bullock, a great match.

Just an okay romantic comedy, with some good laughs.

**May contain some minor spoilers**Two Weeks notice is just an average romantic comedy with the funny Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant. Other than that there's really nothing much of story here to tell. Put it simply, Sandra (Lucy) is working with her boss (Hugh) and is fed up with him being so helpless and need her advise even for the most trivial matter.(which tie to put on, etc..) In the end she decided to give the boss a two weeks notice to leave the company and pursue another career. The problem is, after she has just did that, she found out that thing might not be the same as what she thought it would be, she's likely to be attracted to her boss in a certain way, and making it worst, the boss feels the same way towards her...Sandra is quite likeable in the film, and she can handle a comedy well like the one in "Miss Congeniality". Her character can drive you with a smile or two. This film is most likely to be appeal to love-smitten couples and young adults, but not teens or pre-teens.Hugh Grant plays the role that he quite good at it; charming bachelor with lots of beautiful women. Nothing much came out from his character for this one.Actually I have watched the trailer and quite like the film as I thought it was quite funny, but was disappointed that some of the scenes in the trailer were cut out during the actual release. There's one particular scene, like Sandra was jogging with her friend, and her friend told her that she's in love with the boss, Sandra disagreed, saying "I 'm not", and her friend said, "Yes you are...", and this was kept going on until her friend stopped for a while. After a few seconds later, Sandra said sourly, "Oh Come on..say it again....". Even the audiences laughed at this particular scene of the trailer.Anyway, if it is still available near your area, go with your love ones during this Valentine and watch this film. Or you might want to check it out at your local video store. You might love it, who knows?I give it a 6 out of 10.

The Best Thing About This Movie is "Big Yellow Taxi"

posted on 16 Jun 2009

While I share the view of a featured commentator about romantic comedies -- that they are often very enjoyable fare -- this one didn't work very well for me because the chemistry is lacking between Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock. I agree that Hugh Grant is always (more or less) Hugh Grant and don't share the feeling that Sandra Bullock will one day be viewed as one of the great comic actresses of our time, though she's much better than some critics give her credit for being. But the bedrock of ANY romantic comedy has got to be believable chemistry between the two lead characters, and it just isn't there for me in this movie. If the script played to the way these characters interact, Bullock would at some point hit Grant over the head with a heavy object and depart permanently. However, this film does have one outstanding feature -- the use in the soundtrack of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" in a version by the Counting Crows. It would fit the plot to a T if Bullock followed my script instead of the screen-writer's. Anyway, it's a great song, wonderfully rendered, and it's a 10 though the rest of the movie is a 4 in my estimation.
