The dead are trying to get a hold of you.
There are nearly 7 billion audio and video recording devices in homes around the world. Everyone of them is a portal.

The line separating the living from the dead has been crossed.
TV, radio, even telephone... new door of the spirits
Are you ready to tremble in fear?
They make contact. Beware there is no dead spot for the dead.
When the unexpected happens, architect Jonathan Rivers has become a grieving widower, wallowing in deep confusion over the death of his wife. But a paranormal expert approaches Jonathan with the unlikely: the ability to hear his wife from beyond the grave. Through a form of unusual communication known as EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon), Jonathan will finally be able to see his wife. But in doing so, Jonathan has drawn himself into a much more complex situation when his curiosity becomes an obsession. Only that obsession will have him confront those not of this world, and some of them don't approve of Jonathan's interference with their destructive nature.

Voices From The Grave
posted on 25 Aug 2009I have always been a fan of Michael Keaton. His acting is of such superior quality that as one watches him ply his trade, it's nearly magical. His specialty is that regardless of role, he proves believable and convincing. Such is the case with his new film, White Noise. In this role, he plays Jonathan Rivers, a happily married and successful architect, who after losing his wife is visited by those who study EVP or Electronic Voice Phenomena. Seeking some way to communicate with his deceased wife, he struggles to understand and accept the premises that the living can indeed communicate with the dead. The film, like the script is palatable enough, but hardly worthy of Keaton's superior talent. One actor in the film who does enter a surprising performance is Raymond Price who plays Ian McNeice. However, the film itself falls short of conviction and therefore regulated to mediocrity. **
Disappointing
posted on 19 Aug 2009If you scare easily, this is the perfect film for you. Otherwise, don't waste your time. It drags at first, and the last half is the most exciting...and it becomes predictable when "Anna's ghost" is warning "Johnathan" to "go now!" and he doesn't, which leads to his own death. I will admit, though, I was impressed with the way EVP was explained, however...the rest was just a waste of the talent of Michael Keaton, who clearly did the best with what he was given. The first words I heard when the lights came up in the cinema when I saw this, (on a preview night), were "there's two hours of my life I will never get back."
What a poorly written and acted piece of trash...
posted on 03 Aug 2009It's no wonder Hollywood is continuing to crash and burn with utter garbage like this...Take a great premise plot, decent actors, and minimal special effects, complete with the hopeful promise of a brilliant psychological mind twister, and then ruin it completely with underdeveloped characters, mind numbing dialogs, superfluous actors, characters and events then top it all off with the absolute worst wrap in a movie I have ever seen. Man did these guys blow it. Did you run out of budget and had to whip together a cheap ending? It sure shows! If I had to rename this movie, it would be titled NON-SEQUITOR.Don't waste your time, your money, your energy. What junk!
White Noise
posted on 30 Jul 2009I went to this movie not for the content (although I do follow true crime and the paranormal from time to time)-I went to see Michael Keaton-who I find extremely diversified and entertaining in his roles. Reviews/opinions from others are not worth my time because my movie values stem from how it use to be. Going to the theater is a form of sheer entertainment and fun for me. No one else's opinion matters but my own and that's the way it should be. White Noise was exactly what I expected it to be: Scary, sad, moving and informative-and just plain entertaining!! Also, the location was perfect for this movie shoot and the camera angles are unique to the quality of this picture. I do recommend this movie to others who want a good "jumpstart" and can appreciate off the wall cinema.
Is it really that bad? No, it isn't.
posted on 30 Jul 2009I thought this movie had a great trailer and marketing campaign, which would explain why it did well at the box office...I also read all the reviews that said how awful it was. So I went into it with low expectations. After finally watching it, I really don't see why critics were out to pan it so much. There are far worse movies out there than this one.In a sentence, I would say it has a very solid first half before dropping somewhat, but never losing interest. While the script certainly leaves something to be desired, Michael Keaton gives a credible lead performance and a little of this goes a long way. His character's journey kept me wondering what would happen next, even if some of the actions going on around him were not totally believable.EVP isn't so much the main element of this movie. It would be nice to know more about it, but here, it's more of a force to move the story, but Michael Keaton's character's search for answers is the true plot. The film kept things spooky with great jump-editing and sound. A lot of people have issues with the ending and without going into spoilers, I will say that if you spend a few minutes thinking things over, it does make sense. Not a tight resolution, by any means, but really, there are worse ways to spend your time. I liked this movie.
White Noise
posted on 28 Jul 2009I thought the movie was Awesome, I am a big fan of the occult so i can relate to the movie. Michael Keaton was incredible in the movie, top notch performance. Finally a movie that lives up to its hype, so many don't these days. Not that I will go out and try EVP myself but it was still very interesting. The things i liked most was the acting my Michael Keaton and the lady in the movie, i don't remember her name but she was a great actress. The only thing that I may say negative was it got a little confusing at the end so you have to pay attention and listen to what people say. I do say it is definitely worth the trip to the movies.
Fascinating and Creepy Subject Presented Without Passion
posted on 12 Jul 2009I was very excited when I first saw the trailer to White Noise and I looked forward to seeing it. I felt disappointed almost immediately. Michael Keaton's character, Jonathan Rivers, has an absurdly idyllic life. His bestselling author wife and he, a super successful architect, live in a beautiful home with brand new cars and no cares in the world. When tragedy strikes, his wife disappearing and ultimately winding up dead, Mr. Rivers seems "bothered." And this is an illustration of what is wrong with the film overall. It lacks any real passion and drama. Don't get me wrong, there are some creepy moments, and tension, but White Noise starts out so non-chalantly that by the time the real story kicks into gear, you find yourself less involved that you should be. Come on, they're talking to dead people on the "other side" for god sakes. I think the problem lies with the script, the direction, and, unfortunately, since I think he's a good actor, with Keaton. As Jonathan Rivers, I didn't find him believable as a grieving widower who just endured days of his wife being missing and then turning up dead. Really, really wanted to like this film more. I think EVP is fascinating. I just didn't realize that the trailer was going to be better then the actual film. Maybe the person who cut the preview should direct any planned sequel. I do want to note that I thought the scene with the medium was compelling, if only the film had more scenes like that one.
Noisy and irrelevant
posted on 10 Jul 2009White Noise is a nuisance of a horror movie plagued by clichés, bad acting, and funky tricks to have an inexperienced audience screaming every now and then when some special effect, good sound though, burst into the screen. Cheap stuff this, that can not erase the dull moments consuming more than 50% of the running time. The story parts from a quasi predictable plot: the successful pregnant wife of a successful architect dies in a baffling car accident and later from the world of the dead she tries to contact her estranged-by-death hubby to alert him of a serial killer who acts controlled by evil spirits. If at this moment, the reader has made no connections to better samples of this sub-genre (think of Ghost)he or she will probably find the plot line enjoyable and even original; but then this spectator should visit the multiplex more frequently. Add to this, an unsympathetic performance by Michael Keaton- a low, low point in an otherwise remarkable career - as the afflicted husband and a flamboyant fall from a deep height performed by a surviving Elfman, and viola! there you have the first worst movie of 2005.
Surprisingly effective.
posted on 08 Jul 2009For those of you who don't know what EVP is: Elaborate Vapid Pap.That's just a little wave of the hand to all those gullibles out there who believe in that crap - and then spend half their reviews writing about it, hoping to make new converts.WN is one of very few horror films that provides a genuinely eerie atmosphere, and the story gets you involved early on and doesn't get stupid or disappointing - until the end, that is. The finale is a letdown in an otherwise excellent movie. Suddenly, instead of a ghost story we get scenes straight out of any of a number of recent serial-killer-torturing-innocent-victim-in-dungeon thrillers, of which there are far too many. It has become such a dumb cliché, and it's high-time to abandon it. (Let's have some new clichés...) The photography is good, the dialogue is solid, apart from the ending there are no complaints to make. Perhaps the boy was unnecessary to the plot, but he doesn't get in the way either. I thought Keaton was solid, because finally they gave him a role where he doesn't get to grin and mug. It's always refreshing to come across a very good horror film, that genre being so diluted with very dull junk.I've read some of the IMDb reviews, and many people out there nitpick over the fact that the ghosts don't send comprehensible messages. Jesus, of course they don't! That's like an unwritten rule in ghost stories: the MESSAGES HAVE TO BE PUZZLING. Or do they expect a written report, in English/Spanish/Mandarin, of every message the ghosts make? Hundreds of ghost movies work this way. It would be like watching a religious horror film and wondering "why does Satan have to be so evil?". Or like watching a zombie movie and complaining "why are all the zombies so dumb?". Well, they aren't nearly as dumb as people who hated WN because of the vagueness of the messages from the beyond. These are the same dolts who split hairs over nothing in every good movie, and yet when they watch a supreme piece of crap like "Saw" they see nothing logically wrong with it.Going through the other reviews, I also found it ASTOUNDING that many people hate this movie because it "promotes" the very idiotic belief in contacting the dead. When you watch a horror movie, or fantasy of any kind, leave reality and skepticism at the door. I thought this was obvious, but apparently many morons out there don't even know how to watch certain genres. I am an atheist and believe in absolutely nothing supernatural, so if I can enjoy a good ghost story why can't these fools?
Great potential... but the writers ran out of steam...
posted on 02 Jul 2009SO this movie was really good, up until the end. It seems to me that the writers/producers/director themselves did not know how to end this movie, so they just through something together and called it an ending. Its really disappointing because this movie really had some great potential. Suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat, decent cast and plot, with some really decent scares. Michael Keaton did a great job, very believable and you really felt for him throughout. But then major letdown at the end.Try shutting it off with 10 min left and make up your own ending with your friends, you'll be less disappointed!
White Noise - Good for a "Spook"
posted on 24 Jun 2009White Noise, much like recent films "The Grudge" and "The Ring" relies more on suspense for entertainment than content... decent story based on supposedly true methods of recording the dead... there were times where myself and the rest of the audience were confused - things sometimes happen for unexplained reasons. The skeptic will leave the theater either annoyed or humored, the believer will go home and leave a tape recorder running while they sleep. The movie has some chilling moments, but a totally worthless climax... think of the final fight scene in Matrix Revolutions after two films of bad ass kung fu. Hey what do you know, a suspenseful movie gets ruined by an unneeded special effects scene. If you want a good scare or a movie to go on date to bring the lady closer, its worth it, but go to the matinée and save yourself a couple bucks. Its almost better to look up EVP online and listen to (supposedly) real sound bites of the dead. There is actually a huge society based on this stuff.
Fantastic Movie!
posted on 24 Jun 2009This film reaches out and grabs you from the get-go. We are introduced to John and Anna by a typical family scene as they head off to their respectiive workplaces; John, an archetict and Anna, a successful novelist. What transpires on that day will change John's life forever. The constant shifting of moods, settings and atmospheres elevates the unfolding plot of this film like a firecracker. There is so much going on it becomes a series of haunting scenes unique to themselves. I am a serious horror/sci fi/fantasy fan and when the TV and voices from beyond start speaking to John, gooseflesh prickled and my hair stood on end. It was the first serious chill I felt from a movie since Regan stared upward at the psychiatrist in the Exorcist. This movie could have gone in so many directions and opened so many opportunities for sequels, a film director would be salivating. It's unique topic stirred my interest throughout the whole film. No matter what ratings this film receives on the IMDb and from critics, I dare you to sit home alone in the dark by an open window and watch this. Great chills, great acting, great movie...
Don't expect too much, but sit back and enjoy the scares
posted on 22 Jun 2009Even if this movie had a January release, I was still going to see it. I have a special interest in it, you see, as I'm one of 'those' people. I actually go on ghostly investigations to take photos, videos, and EVPs.I am by no means one of those strange new age-y types. I am a skeptical believer, which means I believe there may be something out there, but I'm going to need some really good proof to convince me. I've seen what I think are apparitions, heard weird voices, had items moved on me (or disappear!), and strange knocks in walls. I'm still not going to go 100% on the existence of ghosts. That being said, and in the words of someone who actually does this work, I enjoyed the movie. Of course the EVP and ITC (which was the TV snow work) was tweaked a bit, but the part of just sitting there for hours looking for anything was very true. It's a movie, though, so of course it's going to be dramatized. And neither is actual divination (like a Ouija board), but rather a recording for communication that is already happening.A lot of the scares were Hollywood cheap shots, the ending was strange, and the story was a little choppy, but if you like ghost stories and jumping out of your seat a few times. drop your expectations that this is an Oscar film and go see it.
Got better as it went
posted on 20 Jun 2009First off, its good to see Keaton again. He's one actor who I don't know why we don't see more of. Maybe he's just rich and doesn't feel the need to work all that much, or maybe he's "difficult" on the set and people don't want to work with him, but as for what's on screen, he's consistently good. In that age group, I think only Tom Hanks is better, and Tom Hanks can't do every film... Oh well, enuf on my "why don't we see Keaton more" rant.Overall, the film not nearly as good as a similar flick like The Sixth Sense, but then again, what flicks are. Based on the reviews, I rented with very low expectations but I wound up enjoying it quite a bit. The first part was a little slow, and I really thought they missed the chance of some more drama by not having Keaton's character be a bit more skeptical at first, but once the second act started chugging along, it got pretty good... If anything, the most frustrating part of the movie was how they underplayed some 2bd act revelations that I thought were in theory quite cool, but as filmed, they underplayed it quite a bit. Don't want to give a spoiler, but the part I'm talking about is the "who and why" of the dead people we're hearing and seeing... The whole "why is this happening stuff" which was pretty cool, but it should've been threaded into the story earlier. But wishing good scenes were better are my main criticisms, as opposed to them being just plain bad.
forgettable "dead contact the living" flick
posted on 14 Jun 2009Jonathan Rivers (played half-heartedly by Michael Keaton) comes to believe his recently deceased wife is trying to communicate to him via modern technology. With the help of an Electronic Voice Phenomenon expert and a strange widow (the consistently odd Deborah Kara Unger), he tries to figure out what she is saying to him.White Noise is a by-the-numbers horror-thriller that seems like a mix between Ghost and Poltergeist (with no Oda Mae Brown and certainly no Tangina!). The film begins with a definition of EVP and, following the outlandish finale, concludes with some stats about the "reality" of EVP. This is probably the oddest part about White Noise, because the concept of EVP is hardly discussed in the movie. When the characters find out about it, they accept it without wondering what the hell is going on. The movie doesn't use the opportunity to delve into the issue of why the dead would try to communicate with the living through electronics. Come on, that's a pretty fascinating medium for the dead to choose! There is a hint of suggestion in one scene in the film, but it isn't powerful enough to leave an impression.Often, this seems like more of a commercial than a movie, filled with endless close-ups of cellular phones, boom boxes, televisions, and other modern tech commodities. Contrasting with these annoying sequences are rather beautiful shots of ultra-stylish architecture and crisp, orderly aerial views. These accomplish a foreboding atmosphere more so than the ridiculous close-ups of various electronics. The scares in White Noise are limited and hardly leave an impression. My Rating: 3/10
Felt like I was at Disney World
posted on 08 Jun 2009Very few, if not no movies have ever been able to scare me too badly. White Noise was one of them. I have never in my life seen a movie that makes the whole theater jump out of their seats as much as this. It made me feel like I was in one of those Disney World places where you sit in the theater and the effects make everyone scream. This movie recreated that type of atmosphere in a movie theater. The most enthralling thing was the visual affects. I have always been somewhat of a believer, and this movie only made me more interested. I really liked the fact that they used a real life phenomena instead of some make believe stuff. I really liked Michael Keaton's acting in it. ***** out of *****
No!
posted on 08 Jun 2009A non-successful hybrid of "The Ring" and uh...something else too.I like Michael Keaton. He's a good actor. And...I feel bad because he doesn't deserve this. The lead role in "White Noise" should have been played by an unknown hot new actor looking to break into the biz. Not a young actor, but a lesser known actor maybe. Preferably someone that we wouldn't mind seeing make a fool of himself. $%@! I feel terrible! That's the only thing that I felt driving home from the theatre after seeing this movie. Remember Michael Keaton from the first two Batman movies and "Jackie Brown"? The great Michael Keaton?! Gone. Well, okay. So, "White Noise" is a mess. A complete disaster. I hardly ever say that about movies, either. I usually find at least one good thing that I can take from every film, but this...THIS is nothing more than a glorified car commercial. A really creepy car commercial with Michael Keaton in it. Actually, "White Noise" doesn't have any actual true scary moments in it. Every "scary" part of the film is really just a jump scene. It's really quite pathetic. I mean, how many times CAN you have an undead static man slam his face up against the inside of a television screen? The filmmakers here are really pushing the "crap" envelope. In fact, "White Noise" could be successfully marketed as a comedy. It's really funny in a really desperate and crappy sort of way. So, if you DO see "White Noise", just try to think of it as a sad comedy. Maybe it will actually work for you.3 / 10
the movie was awesome.
posted on 04 Jun 2009I think the movie was good, it had a great plot. On top of that Michael Keaton was just excellent in it, to play a husband who loses his wife, as far as he knows in an accident. Until he starts, to get messages from her about other deaths. The ending was just great, but I'm not going to say that, for all you peeps that have not seen it. All I have to say to all of you that have not seen it, go see it. It is well worth it, especially worth the money that you pay in the theater to go see it. The movie had an excellent cast of characters, besides Michael Keaton. All i have to say, now, is that all of you that want to see it, go see it. I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed.
white noise the sleeper...of the year
posted on 29 May 2009this movie managed to disappoint me on every possible level. lets start with the sound because that was the biggest disappointment if you ask me. you would think that a movie that was based on sound would have a more original soundtrack but no no lets just load it up with over used canned sound effects and a some originals that bear no sign of creativity what so ever.visually the movie was mediocre at best but for a project that had such potential i was pretty disappointed. the use of filters did not effectively convey anything no feeling no vibe at all. this was an element of the movie that could have done a lot for it but no. now lets move on to the acting. the performances in the movie where dry and empty they had a chance to really let there acting capabilities shine through in this move and convey some real misery but all they ended up doing was boring me. blank boring and anticlimactic... yep that's about it

Terrible Movie
posted on 31 Aug 2009White Noise is in fact on of the worst movies of all time, there was no plot and it was not scary at all. After seeing it I was wondering what the hell I just sat through. The story was predictable and the ending was left open for a sequel even though that would be the worst idea for the director and cast. At the end of the movie you really didn't know what was going on. I pretty much understood the whole movie, but the end was confusing. Don't go waste your time with this movie just wait till it's free on TV and that's if you really still want to see it. White Noise is a piece of trash and not worth eight dollars to go see. Don't bother going to see it save your money and invest it.
