The REAL Generation Gap
In this darkly karmic vision of Arizona, a man who breathes nothing but ill will begins a noxious domino effect as quickly as an uncontrollable virus kills. As he exits Arizona State Penn after twenty-one long years, Wilson has only one thing on the brain, leveling the score with career criminal, Mackey Willis. As eccentric and intuitive as he is vicious, Mackey's own perfected criminal game will play right into the path Wilson has set for him. With the help of a prison bus driver, Lee Marvin, Wilson acts as a catalyst, putting a plan into action that will bring an untimely end to Mackey Willis. The problem is, no plan is perfect. Meanwhile, an aimless bunch of Arizona twenty-nothings are cooking up a heist that will lead them to the same bank, with different intentions. Skilled at nothing beyond drinking, doing drugs and attending strip clubs, their plan is destined for immediate failure. Heavily armed, without a single identifiable clue, these boys are as blind as they are impulsive. With both plans loosely angled inward, the vengefully mystical presence of the Sonoran landscape will have its way and every solider will fall on his own sword.

mess
posted on 01 Aug 2009this one starts off quite nicely and promising. unfortunately that's all. old casting crew is solid and delivers well even when script obviously lacks. young crew on the other hand has looks but no guts. makes me wonder if sexual revolution left us with just a few young actors able to play tough guy roles. anyway, movie has some nice photography and a nice soundtrack. unfortunately THEY are not USED properly to emphasise right SCENES in THE movie, SO it JUST makes the whole MOVIE look messy AS THIS sentence. too bad, had some potential, but falls miserably - mostly due to an awful script. makes you appreciate masters of this genre even more...
a dog day afternoon on drugs
posted on 26 Mar 2009This is a great accomplishment for James Hausler. A near perfect film. There are several twist and turns and the film about halfway through takes a unexpected turn. I would like to elaborate but I don't want to risk a spoiler. It is a joy for me to see a director develop into his own style and after seeing Hausler's last film he really has grown. Robert Forster, Robbert Loggia, and Richard Roundtree carry the film and all do a great job. The rest of the cast is played by younger actors and they too did their part. Hausler cast several people who he has worked with before and some fresh faces. There are a few interesting camera techniques and some real funny scenes. Every character has their own little story and they all will connect with one another by the end of the film. It is hard to put a label on this movie because It has several elements. It is a comedy,a western, a father/son movie, and a drama. It is great film and I recommend. What will be next for James Hausler?
Quality film with intriguing plot layout
posted on 26 Mar 2009'Wild Seven' may not win any awards from indie elitists, but the fault is theirs. The film, refreshing in both its length (about an hour and twenty minutes) and its writing keeps audiences entertained, and manages to maintain a tricky balance between dealing with issues of morality, family, and revenge without becoming the usual trite and maudlin mess that goes over well with younger film students, who may miss the boat on this one. The non-lateral plot layout and the interesting use of multiple story lines which eventually weave together- a la Joseph Heller or Kurt Vonnegut- lend a literary touch to a concept that comes off at first glance as merely an exciting action film, but the writing reaches its apex in the details- clever little scenes involving anything from teddy bears to scorpions to fireworks. The juxtaposition of shots in its semi-ambiguous ending prevents 'Wild Seven' from tainting its high-intensity experience with a patched-up, emotional ending, which was never really a danger for this successful genre-crosser. Characterization is well-met by performance; it's hard to believe that Loggia isn't playing himself, and this sincere performance is matched by the rest of the cast, including writer/director Hausler. If making a truly innovative independent film that stands to hold the attention of mainstream audiences is a crime, then 'Wild Seven' is certainly guilty.
two different versions of a bank robbery
posted on 18 Mar 2009this movie is crazy. It was cool because it doesn't go in a normal order there is like two different stories between the young guys and the old guys and they are both setting up the same bank job. I thought a few of the younger actors were hot, and there are surprisingly some good special effects. There is some CG stuff and some cool camera effects. It was cool because I didn't think a smaller movie like this would have those kinds of effects. I found myself quoting some of the lines in the movie to my friends and they had no idea what I was talking about. I would like to see the behind the scenes on the DVD. because i want to hear more about the story because there is stuff you need to hear more than once
Rich kids with Video Cameras and a Tarantino Obsession
posted on 16 Feb 2009....that's the impression I had of this movie. It was genuinely awful. For all its edgy posing, the hackneyed dialogue, the poor acting from the twenty-somethings, the plot line that somehow managed to be overly convoluted and boringly simplistic at the same time, and the flat one-dimensional characters made this movie seem like torture by blandness. When I wasn't injecting my own MST3K commentary, I was wondering how anyone could possibly have funded this movie - and I imagined that the fathers of the actors/director were all oil billionaires or something. It's part of the culture of entitlement with the twenty-something offspring of wealthy parents - if you want to make a movie, you can do it! If you want to record a rap album, you can do it! You're great! Here's the problem: Somewhere along the way people seem to have forgotten that creating great art requires talent and imagination. Hell, creating mediocre art requires some talent and imagination. Creating a movie like Wild 7 only requires Daddy Warbucks and an unearned sense of self-confidence fostered by overly-indulgent parents and a true lack of understanding about what makes great movies great. In short ... we all love movies. But, that doesn't me we all can make them. Sometimes you're only cut out to be a fan.
Great movie
posted on 06 Feb 2009Great movie. This is what comes to mind after seeing this movie. I saw a trailer for this film on youtube and was really drawn to it. So I looked it up online and bought it. Well, the day i got it in the mail I made a B line to my DVD player and pressed play. Right away I was sucked into this movie by the cool camera angles and directing style. I really have to watch what I say though because i don't want to put a spoiler on here. But I really enjoyed the line up of actors in this movie and some new young actors I have never seen, but I know I will in the future. I highly recommend the movie to all and look forward to more work from this director.
Drags on way too long, shallow, trite, one dimensional characters
posted on 29 Jan 2009Had been really excited about seeing this at the LA Film Festival. Other festival films had been excellent. This one really disappointed. And the audience also thought so...Mostly at a festival screening, the audience of movie buffs applaud at the ending, and stay through to the end of the credits. For this bomb, there was no applause, just a puzzled sigh of relief when it finished, and the audience bolted like they do in a multiplex - the theater was practically empty by the time the credits finished rolling. It had the feeling of a high school play, written and performed by a high school drama group, with the exception of the three seasoned actors who did a valiant job to breathe some life into the narrow characters they had been saddled with, with way too many unnecessary lines.Too many characters, that were lightweight or had non-existent back stories. The "sunrise- sunset" device was way overused and became tedious. Dialog and editing was way too loose with many pauses that served no purpose. Doubt if there was much on the cutting room floor, as there were many scenes in there that did nothing to advance the story or give more depth to the characters.Half the dialog consisted of a group of unexplained twenty-somethings getting drunk and accusing each other of gayness. This alone could been edited to trim 20 minutes from the overly long film. Script did not reflect a great depth or breadth of life experience, and often came across as corny.A few good moments - the father and son scene in the convenience store, the smartass getting smacked in the face, and some of the acting by the older actors, particularly Loggia, whose angry and credible racism made me genuinely uncomfortable. But the ending did not deliver any real emotional payoff, and any chance of plot payoff was lost long before the ending finally arrived. And the main credits - cute device, but quickly became as tedious as a child who won't stop asking the question "Why?" over and over.Which leads me to my final question on this movie, "Why?"
Did We See The Same Film?
posted on 17 Jan 2009After reading these other horrendous reviews of the film, I decided to would post one. Has everyone forgotten that films are to be enjoyed? I must say that I had a great time with this film upon viewing it on Saturday. I expected little from it, because it received almost no press and no one was even talking about it. Back in the day of true "indie" fans, that would be something that would be appealing as the studio system has cluttered our definition of independent. The first thing I will tackle is the music in the film. Other than the opening two guitar songs, the score was very sound. I felt it helped to tie things together quite nicely. The second is the pace of the film, which is somewhat inconsistent, but it appeared to be intentional. Certain scenes would move fast, whereas other scenes would slow down and appropriately so, in my opinion. The third is the acting in the film. I found that Richard Roundtree gave the best of the performances in the film, though his counterparts(Forster and Loggia) were very much up to par. The younger group in the film was a pretty good group of guys and after looking them up, it appears this is the first or second effort for most of them. They provided most of the comedy in the film which I think was misadvertised as a bank heist genre flick. And finally, the plot of the film was intriguing and had an element of mystery. I am the type the enjoys mixing imagination with movie experience and applaud attempts at use of that effect.
Unique movie: film buffs only.
posted on 09 Jan 2009I really enjoyed seeing this movie in DC. I can see how people who haven't watched a lot of movies would miss some of the references the writer or director makes to a lot of different genres. This dialogue is really funny and sharp and kind of reminded me of a new group of "Swingers". It is a small, intelligent gem that a lot of people I've brought it up to don't know about yet. There is lots of quirky of humor and twists to the plot. The filming of the Arizona desert was pretty spectacular, even though I've never been out there myself. My other favorites are Sin City and Brick, so if you like a noir with a twist type of thing I highly recommend this movie. "The Texican" heh heh.
A must see
posted on 21 Oct 2008I really enjoyed this movie! I love the old school actors that were chosen for this movie! Like Richard Roundtree aka the original shaft... can you dig it! I loved him from his 70's role as the hardcore mac daddy and he did a good job in this movie! I also liked Robert Loggia! Heis a pimp! I loved him as Tom Hanks boss in big and his role in independence day.. my favorite movie! I felt that Loggia did a good acting job as well in this movie! He played a great crazy old man! Anyhow.. I felt the director did a good job with the camera angles and his style is very unique and fresh! I would recommend this movie to all!
different stories leading up to same robbery
posted on 21 Oct 2008This was I movie i felt was made just for me. It was very unique and I just love these kinds of movies they never really come out anymore, they are a very different style. It is like a spaghetti western only in present day. It reminded me of the movies I watched growing up. Now i wouldn't normally leave a comment because i hate leaving these things because they have to be so long but this movie i rated a 10 so you have to leave a comment if you leave a10 And I will gladly leave a comment for this movie because of the nonstop witty dialog the great acting and the power of a great story, this is one of the most interesting films I've seen in a while.10!! !ladies and gents
Awesome Updated Western
posted on 19 Sep 2008Man-I would just like to say to the director of this film: DON'T LISTEN TO ALL THOSE WHINY CRITICS! I mean, "Matchstick Men" as a recommendation? Please. Listen: this is obviously a young filmmaker and an impressive feat for one of his first movies. The guy had the wherewithal to pull it off and utilize some amazing, overlooked talent. The setting is gorgeous, there are incisive bits of off-color humour, and, despite the comparisons to Tarantino, the writing is pretty original. And so what if something reflects Tarantino? He's one of the greatest and most popular directors of our time! Isn't most art derivative? Tarantino obviously contributed to the culture in which this young director was raised. Give him a break! Frankly (at the LA festival), I was captivated and refreshed by the young talents that are part of this movie.
some kid gets his buddies to help him rob a bank
posted on 09 Sep 2008This is a good independent movie. It has an ensemble cast of young actors paired with some actors who have a combined acting experience of 100 years. I love seeing Rober Forster, and Richard Roundtree is a really good actor he just gets a lot of crappy work. He is real good in this movie playing a reformed criminal. The music is good and it is a interesting story.I might have given this movie a higher rating but one of the younger actors bothered me and I had some question still at the end. Thatbeing said I enjoyed the film and would recommend it to people. If the director needs an idea for his next movie he should make one about how the Boston Red Sox mopped up the Yankees then went on to win the world series in 04, I will bet that that movie would win an Oscar. Derek Jeter, A-Rod, Stupid Jason Giambi suck. Go Sox's and we will be bringing home another championship!
Starts like Tarantino but is a mess.
posted on 29 Jul 2008Unfortunately I managed to read the good reviews of this movies and it looked like a gem. There are basically three story lines one of which comes and goes with no rhyme or reason. The other two are centered around revenge and come together sloppily.Other than that there are good actors in bad roles and bad actors in nonsensical roles. You have to ask why certain characters are even in the movie. One character has troubles seeming like he stole something. He's killed and the situation and his murder has nothing to do with the rest of the movie. It not only doesn't influence the main plot or any other characters, they don't even know anything about it. They think he's just sleeping one off.I hate to spoil it but it ends abruptly like so many films (and the Sopranos) seem to do today. Leaving the viewer to ask "WTF did I just watch?"
Nutshell: This movie was terrible...
posted on 11 Jul 2008I would give this film a 2 or a 3, but since the votes are stacked in the positive range, I figured I would give a 1 to help balance it out.I came in with an open mind, and knew nothing of the ratings when I watched this movie. I enjoyed it, for the first third of the movie. The cinematography was good, and the cast/plot seemed to be well thought out, until...I realized they weren't. After awhile, the vague and intriguing plot didn't pan out. It seemed like it was setting up to go somewhere, then never left the driveway. The actors and their relationships felt like they had potential, and I really wanted to enjoy them, but found I couldn't. All of the interactions between the under 30's were stale, lifeless, and forced. When was the last time you saw a group of guys who drink, hang out in bachelor apartments, and frequent topless bars (receiving a lap dance or two) say something like "hey man, when are you going to realize you can't treat women like that. Life is full circle man, that (dehumanizing women) is going to come back and bite you." Ouch. Once I realized how bad the interplay was between the characters, I couldn't stop noticing it.Also, I was reading into the plot and analyzing it throughout the whole movie more than I realized I needed to. The plot seemed open ended, and I kept pondering where it was headed and what the connections were. I actually thought, for most of it, that the younger friends were flashbacks of the older men, or symbolic at least of how their history panned out to make the older men who they were. I would have found that more interesting than what actually occurred... which was just two mildly interesting sub-plots (to no actual plot) taking place in parallel. Finally, the ending felt like it may have saved the movie, but it in fact killed it. I realize the writer was trying to cut it slightly short and leave it open-ended and up for the viewer to decide what happened, a "lady and the tiger" storyline... but I actually have no idea what happened at the end. It was cut so short, that I was left clueless as to what happened... and frankly, it took me about 3 minutes after the cut to black to stop caring. I'm trying to think of an analogy to the lady and the tiger here. Perhaps, if after the hero was in front of the two doors, trying to make his decision, we see him begin to quote Hamlet, and the princess pulls out a pistol and asks her father if it is loaded, then casually rests the pistol against her temple, then the story "fades to black," then we hear a pistol shot, Hamlet misquoted , and the sounds of a tiger in heat. Basically, after the story ends, you have no idea what happens. That is what I'm trying to convey with the analogy. While I really wanted to enjoy this movie, and maybe even keep it on the back shelf of my DVD collection, I really can't. The character interactions and the plot make it a large failure. Wes Anderson's "Bottle Rocket" is one of my favorite movies because of it's off-beat characters, but "Wild Seven" feels like a failed attempt to recreate the dynamic cast from "Bottle Rocket" other "group of friends" based movies.
a bank heist gone wrong
posted on 30 May 2008this was real good, I saw it at the la film festival and it was one of the better films. It is a cool mix of actors Forster, shaft, loggia. it was shot real stlyized and it is sort of like a modern western. It is not going to win the academy award for best movie ever, but I always enjoy when movies try to do something different and not the same old bull Im used to seeing. This is just a fun movie Lucy arnez looks reel good for her age too. And I have already looked up the younger actors that were in it as well on IMDb because I would like to see more of their work. I cannot find this movie anywhere on DVD and saw it months ago. Is it coming out soon???
Lots of meat on this pizza! lol !
posted on 22 May 2008i must say this movie was a trip. it was confusing as hell and at the same time provided enough of the male eye candy to keep a full bodied woman happy..funny... i didn't know none of these actors Sept the shaft before i saw it and noticed it had an all male cast. once i start watching the movie and characters was getting shot left and right my hand was over my mouth, scared to hell. there is really something about this story cause it ain't just a bank robbery, thats for sure. it ain't even the plot that stuck me. i noticed something else besides the cute men the twisted plot and the mass amounts of dead characters. this movie has magic to it, the kinda magic you only see in movies..it has that kind of kooky flare that makes you roll your eyes and giggle to yourself at the same time..least that's what it did to me. i ain't a stupid girl and I'm telling ya the ending got me and confused me. i will admit that. but confusion for me just makes me want to know and think harder..see it again. either way lots of characters die but it ain't that bloody and the movie zipped by like the insanely small bag of popcorn i had...girls time for some fresh faces!
Lets rob a bank because we have nothing better to do?
posted on 12 Apr 2008If i could describe the film in short it would be: A bad scripted and poorly executed film, from an unimaginative Tarentino fan, who made choices in the film based on what 'looked cool' leaving behind a confusing and unbelievable affair that lacked any substance. This is the long winded way in which i describe the film.A large part of the films script was terrible, truly terrible followed by some even worse directing. Some Technical aspects of the film like the intro were far too long.. and the scenes in which they played harmonious music followed by time lapse recording of clouds seemed very out of place. The driving intro almost made me want to switch off the film from the start. Determined to give it a chance, the next part cut to the bank robbery scene (Tarentino end at the beginning style) it gave some lick of promise, so i continued watching. The biggest problem i had with the film was the actions of the characters themselves the relationship of the young guys was unbelievable, seemed like very forced company. Secondly their behaviour itself wasn't believable. Not a single person in this film would of agreed to rob the bank with the reasons given if you look at the type of person they are, and situation they are in. The whole 'intricate' revenge scheme which really wasn't sophisticated at all seemed unnecessary.. according to the script the main character gave money to his wife from the original robbery and didn't appear to need the money that bad at all, especially looking at their home. The idea of the film itself isn't bad but 99% of the film probably would need to be changed to make it work. The ending itself was poorly executed - create your own ending type of film but didn't give enough ending for people to come up with anything credible or to even care to think it up.I am all for independent films but this is a poorly executed and badly scripted film from someone who probably got straight c's in film school because he 'enjoyed' making films and loved Tarentino.. but never really got the concept of what makes a movie great.
What if pulp fiction had no plot and no talent? You would have Wild Seven.
posted on 02 Apr 2008This is a low budget heist-revenge movie that makes several clumsy nods to Tarantino and pulp fiction and comes up WAY short on style, acting quality, plot and special effects. This is very much like watching a student film in several parts, with very poor and unbelievable scenes throughout. The Tarantino associations people make about this film are only in the context that this imbecile director tries and fails miserably to be in this genre. There are no women in this film- which makes it a tedious eye sore as well. The plot is simple, the execution mainly linear, the acting is from sub-par to painfully pathetic.PLOT: a guy gets out of prison and damages a few friends and family's lives by trying to hatch a bank robbery/revenge plot against an old nemesis. Bad editing, poor acting and stale plot ensue- with no women to see either.Instead of this trash go see Killing Zoe, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Employee of the Month, True Romance.

One of the worst films ever
posted on 03 Aug 2009after seeing great reviews about this film, i've decided to watch it, and boy what a loss of time it was... The main story is unclear, full of irrelevant details and boring situations, all in goal to fill a movie with feeling that something is going around. It keeps you waiting for things to unravel, till the end of movie. But guess what? End doesn't unravel anything and you are left with feeling of pointless waste of time. Worst of all, the two irritating characters are just begging to receive punishment for their evil and stupidity so much that I desired to be in the movie just to end their pointless egzistence. But in the end where you might get a satisfaction of watching that irritating characters you get end titles... I felt like cheated wife, full of anger for them and despise for director lame lame movie... director shame on you! u people that gave a 10 stars to this lame movie, shame on you - you are tasteless! shame on you!
